IIT Madras Organises 28th Edition of Annual Cultural Festival 'Sarang 2023'; Read Details Here

New Delhi: Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Madras is organising the 28th edition of its yearly cultural festival called, "Sarang 2023," entirely in physical mode on the campus. Over 80,000 students from more than 500 institutions across the nation are attending the festival, which will include close to 100 events.

As per IIT Madras, the five-day-long annual cultural festival started on January 11 and will conclude on January 15, 2023. The festival will be organised by more than 850 students from various departments at IIT Madras.

For this year, the theme of IIT Madras Cultural Festival 2023 is "Mystic colours". The festival will include activities put on by student clubs from IITM, including ones for oratory, comedy, writing, visual arts, and the newly formed culinary arts club. Competitions, workshops, and performances are among the events.

The festival has a schedule of musical events, beginning with a classical night with band performances, followed by a choreo night featuring dance performances, an EDM and rock night featuring international artists, and a pop show night featuring musicians.

IITM's fest, Saarang has introduced "Panacea," an awareness-raising campaign for health and cleanliness, for this year's social cause. The initiative aims to promote healthy behaviours to prevent illness outbreaks.

The social campaign will also cover various important themes, such as the Important aspects of personal health and fitness, environmental cleanliness, public and general health awareness, sanitation, and sexual health among others. 

Earlier, weeks before the festival, a variety of activities were launched by the institute to spread the word, including educational lectures in middle and high schools and text-based games that were both entertaining and educational.

Talking about Sarang 2023, Sri Ram K, the IITM's Secretary for cultural affairs and the arts, said: “Three new verticals are being introduced this year- Nova presents, Media Confluence, Comicals and The Korean Fest, celebrating the fields of Journalism, Comic books and characters and Korean culture, respectively".

The festival is excited to offer a Global Village at the KV Grounds, which will feature WorldFest performers and many other international influences. The Adventure Zone returns alongside the Global Village, bringing with it the well-liked Silent Disco as well as other favourite rides, he further added.

Jai Santhoshi S, IIT Madras Cultural Affairs Secretary said, “‘Spotlight lectures will be the main highlight of the event, which will be attended by esteemed lecturers: Actress Ms Suma Kanakala, Chef Mr Sashi Cheliah, Group Art Director of Amar Chitra Katha Mr. Savio Mascarenhas, Journalist Ms. Palki Sharma Upadhya and Actress Ms. Revathy".

The Professional Shows also feature an excellent lineup of both well-known and up-and-coming performers, whose performances are sure to get the audience singing along, he shared.
