Regardless of the COVID-19 pandemic and the subsequent economic slowdown, IIT Madras students managed to receive at least 182 Pre-Placement Offers (PPOs) ahead of virtual placements.
IIT Madras is scheduled to begin the Phase-1 of the placement drive from today, December 1, 2020. In view of the lockdown, placement drives at all the IITs will be conducted in online mode this year.
Despite this shift, IIT Madras has showcased an increase in PPOs from 170 as of 2019. Majority of the offers, that is, 49% were extended by the Information Technology (IT) sector followed by 29% by Research and Development (R&D) and core sectors.

Chief recruiters were Microsoft and Texas Instruments that made 12 offers each. Other recruiters included, Goldman Sachs, American Express and Qualcomm.
C.S. Shankar Ram, Advisor (Training and Placement), IIT Madras, said in an official statement, “The sustained increase in the number of Pre-Placement Offers this year is a clear reflection of the academic quality of IIT Madras and its students.
I am optimistic that we would be able to carry forward this momentum and our students would obtain the best possible job offers in Phase-1 placements.”

IIT Madras Conducts Virtual Internship Drive
IIT Madras has given the utmost credit for their wondrous performance at their internship drive to its strong internship program.
An official statement by the institute reads, “The internships result in students getting to intern in companies that are large recruiters. The constant increase in PPOs is the result of the excellent performance of students during the internships.”

About 17 organisations extended 140 internships to the students on day-1 of virtual internship drive. However, last year about 147 internship offers on the first day of the drive.
IT companies offered the maximum PPOs (46%) which was followed by core, R&D (29%), finance, analytic and consulting (19%) and FMCG (6%).
