IIT Madras Students Organise Space Technical Fest

New Delhi: The Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IITM) students are hosting a space tech summit called "Shaastra 2023" as part of their technical festival to encourage innovation and cooperation in the field. The festival will take place from January 26 to January 29, 2023 on campus grounds.

For the tech festival, students of IIT Madras will work with space-tech firms like ISRO, GalaxEye Space, and AgniKul Cosmos. The festival will bring together professionals from the industry for a variety of events, including interactive lectures, panel discussions, and VC pitching sessions.

The event will cover a variety of sessions, including management and finance as well as Web 3.0, robotics, astronomy, and machine learning. Symbiosis 2023, a mini-fest organised by Shaastra, will bring together professionals from data science, machine learning, and artificial intelligence to explore relevant issues.

Additionally, Shaastra 2023 will welcome schoolchildren to an Institute Open House so they can tour the IIT Madras campus and its amenities. In addition, the festival will hold the "Junior Make-a-Thon" final phase, where school students will display prototypes they've created with the help of mentors.

The event will also feature a hackathon called "Hack-cidents" which will concentrate on creating technological solutions to increase road safety in India. IIT Madras Center for Innovation and Shaastra will work together to organise this hackathon.

All students and start-ups are welcome to participate in the event hackathon, which will provide participants with the chance to present their ideas and win up to Rs 5 lakh in funding for the creation of a prototype. The top teams would also be qualified for additional grants totalling Rs 10 lakh.

The festival debuted a social initiative named "Vastra" with the goal of making apparel accessible to everyone and advancing the idea of sustainable fashion. Students are educating consumers on how to upscale pre-owned apparel and enticing them to give clothing to the needy and small support groups.

V. Kamakoti, Director of IIT Madras said, “There will be several open-house workshops on the top technologies that IIT Madras has invented which include 5G and Hyperloop. With regard to space technology, IIT Madras looks forward to motivating people on both rocket and satellite development".

"One of the outcomes expected is the understanding of what the applications of commercial space are. This can be a seed for startups to help decide what kind of satellites need to be built in the future", he further added.

Ratna Kumar Annabattula, Co-curricular Advisor at IIT Madras, praised the students' efforts in organising this enormous event, saying that Shaastra 2023 will feature lectures from business leaders from companies like Google, Siemens, and Subex and workshops and events where participants can showcase their skills.

Additionally, the event will feature programming hackathons sponsored by companies like M2P, Wells Fargo, L&T, and Schlumberger, among others, to test students' programming skills as they compete against the best minds in the nation to solve practical, real-world challenges.

In his statement, he added. "We anticipate seeing the results of the tireless work the Shaastra team has put into making the entire event a success. At this time, I'd also like to express my gratitude to all of our sponsors for their help".
