IIT Madras to Organise IPL Contest for Data Science Enthusiasts

New Delhi: IIT Madras has announced an IPL contest titled "Cricket and Coding" for data science enthusiasts. The contest includes analyzing the data for Indian Premier League (IPL) cricket matches to develop models using AI and Machine Learning Techniques.

As per IIT Madras, the "Cricket and Coding" is a data science contest in which participants will aim to develop an efficient model with the help of various techniques on IPL Matches. Those who wish to participate can submit their registrations at study.iitm.ac.in.

The content will be organised jointly by IIT Madras' BS Data Science and Applications Degree and the National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning (NPTEL). The last date to register for IIT Madras IPL Content 2023 is April 13, 2023.

Informing about the event, the official website reads, "A person with elementary coding knowledge and an interest in data science may compete. Non-coders may also participate in the non-competitive "guess the score" event which does not require writing a code and is open to all non-programers".

Andrew Thanaraj, Professor-in-charge of BS in Data Science and Applications and NPTEL shared that the data science contest will provide data science learners with an opportunity to apply their skills in a real-life situation to develop creative models.

To analyze the match, participants will be given access to data before IPL matches that include information on player performance, team performance and match outcomes. Participants have to use the given information to predict each team's power play score for the next matches.

Based on the difference between the expected and actual results, points will be awarded to the participants. At the end of the content, the winners will receive prizes at “Paradox '23”, the annual techno-cultural event of the BS program.
