IIT Madras to Roll Out Certification Program in Electronics for Tamil Nadu Govt School Students

New Delhi: The Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT-Madras) is getting ready to launch an electronics certification programme for pupils in Tamil Nadu's public schools. The institute hopes to improve students' understanding and skills in electronics at a young age with this new programme.

Students in Classes 9, 10, 11, and 12 will be able to take the new electronics course at IIT Madras. For this programme, the Tamil Nadu School Education Department will choose 250 schools. Teachers will receive training in advance of this endeavour.

Professor V. Kamakoti, Director of IIT Madras, commented on the introduction of the new programme for students attending government schools: "We are building electrical kits for this at IIT-Madras. The pupils must complete a series of experiments that we have. We'll send teams to inspect the tests to see if they were carried out properly, and if so, we'll award them a certificate. The curriculum would require the students to put in an average of 10 hours.

"We want to start doing this in January 2023. Over one lakh pupils will learn electronics each year, according to Kamakoti.

The Director responded to a question about how this programme would be supported and how much it would cost, "We haven't made any estimates yet. By using our CSR funds, we will carry out this. Our main goal is to make sure that everyone has the opportunity to learn.

The university would provide a four-year BS degree in Electronic System Design Manufacturing under the "Anaivarukkum IIT-M" (IIT-Madras for everyone) programme.

The manufacturing of electronic systems is expanding in India, so we want a vast talent pool. The goal of the project for school children and the BS degree is to develop human capacity for this market in the upcoming years, according to Kamakoti.
