International Olympiad Qualifying Students To Get Direct Admission Into IIT Kanpur: Read Full Report Here

IIT Kanpur Admission 2021: Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur has released an alternative admission process for International Olympiad qualified students into the institute for the academic session 2021-2022. 

As per the initiative of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur, students who have qualified the globally acclaimed olympiads in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, and Informatics, and other subjects will get direct admissions into the institute. 

Students who meet the eligibility criteria will be allotted with direct admission seats for IIT Kanpur Course 2021. The final decision will be made based on the availability of seats and respective departments’ admission criteria.

While talking about the initiative, Nitin Saxena, chairman, UGARC IIT Kanpur stated that those students who have appeared for international olympiads and have cleared the stages do not have to appear for additional exams for admission. 

“Every year, six Indian students represent the nation at the globally acclaimed Olympiads. They go through a rigorous preparation process to pass through various government-held Olympiads" he further added. 

As for IIT Kanpur Admission 2021 framework for olympiad qualified candidates, Nitin Saxena, chairman of UGARC stated that the direct admission process framework for students will be decided by the respective departments.

Students may have to appear for a screening test, though the final admission framework for the same has yet to be decided by the institute. Only qualified candidates will be offered with admission seats in the institute.

"Based on their decision, the candidate’s application will be forwarded to the institute's senate, which will take the final call about the candidate's applications” he added. 

Talking about the test preparation, Partha Halder, head of the department, (Chemistry) and academic head said that since the olympiad is also a test, the institute might not conduct any further test for the admission process for olympiad qualified candidates. 

“Olympiads are just about the prestige of qualifying for the test, as it is not a mass level exam. Getting direct admission into a few of the nation's top Engineering institutes through the Olympiads is still a foreign concept to many”, he added.
