New Delhi: The Jammu and Kashmir government has informed all the colleges across the union territory to get evaluated and accredited by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) at the earliest.
The principal secretary of higher education department, Rohit Kansal issued the government's instruction at a meeting with principals of colleges in the Jammu division.
According to a senior official, the main focus of higher education should be on the quality of learning and teaching and to end this, all the educational institutions in the union territory would have to evaluate and accredit themselves by the NAAC within the earliest possible time.
The senior official said that Kansal has also directed for an audit in all colleges to evaluate the quality of the academic input, and the requirement for course revision or modernisation of syllabus.
The focus has been shifted towards quality education, flexibility in curriculum and globalisation of the outlook towards education with the implementation of the New Education Policy, NEP 2020, the official said.

Addressing the principals, Kansal stressed that apart from good infrastructure for any institution, the main objective of an institute of higher learning should be to impart humanistic, modern and high-quality education to the students.
Kansal directed the principals at the meeting to introduce regular systems of pupil feedback, and said that it would form a crucial part of the evaluation of educators.
Further, he asked principals to adopt technological tools like Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) and Learning Management Systems (LMS) and said that the colleges would be provided with greater flexibility and autonomy, as they need to strive hard to accomplish quality standards and learning outcomes.
Kansal guaranteed that the conditions for utilisation of local funds would be made more flexible.

During the meeting, Kansal notified about the implementation of the new education policy from the 2022-23 academic session, by saying that now the colleges would be encouraged to exchange knowledge and expertise globally.
Moreover, innovation and incubation would be nurtured in a hub-and-spoke model, and expert assistance and guidance would be offered by universities and other premier education institutes such as the IIT Jammu and the IIM Jammu, he said.
Kansal concluded by saying that under the NEP 2020, even the start-up competitions and research will be given special attention.
