November 28, 2020: After remaining close for eight months, Himachal Pradesh Medical Colleges is expected to reopen from December 2020 as per the official statement released by the State Government on November 27, 2020.
Health Secretary, Amitabh Avasthi stated that Himachal Pradesh medical college students who tested negative for coronavirus will be able to attend the physical classes after the reopening of medical colleges in Himachal Pradesh.
The Health Secretary further added that, along with the test result, students will also need the written consent of their parents to appear for physical classes. A three-member central team has also been made to take up the measures of the coronavirus situation in Himachal Pradesh.
On October 25, 2020, a preliminary meeting was held between the Himachal Pradesh State authority and the Central Government team to discuss the reopening of colleges in the states.
As a result, the central government team will now visit various districts of Himachal Pradesh. According to which a meeting will be held in Shimla for further discussion on the COVID-19 pandemic situation, and physical reopening of institutes across the state.
The Health Minister stated that precautions and necessary measures will be taken for the reopening of colleges. Nursing classes for MBBS and BDS registered candidates of the first year and last year will begin in the first phase of reopening.

While students of other medical colleges will be able to attend the physical classes starting from December 7, 2020, onwards. Earlier, the physical classes in Himachal Pradesh medical colleges were closed in the month of March due to the rapid increase in coronavirus cases in the states.
Keeping in mind the seriousness of the situation, the state government started e-learning classes for students to prevent the spread of viruses in the state. After being closed for eight months, the state is now expected to reopen colleges for medical students in December 2020.
