New Delhi: The ministry of tribal affairs, Government of India, has invited online applications for the National Overseas Scholarship Scheme (NOS) for the candidates belonging to the Scheduled Tribe (ST) background. 


The online application for the NOS scholarship has been released for the academic year 2022-23. The scholarship is awarded to the shortlisted students for pursuing higher studies abroad at masters level, PhD, and post-doctoral research courses.

Interested candidates belonging to the ST background can submit their online application form through the National Overseas Portal, @overseas.tribal.gov.in, on or before July 30, 2022. 

The ministry has notified that the scholarship scheme guidelines are under revision and the revised changes will be published soon on the official website.

According to the official website, every year, a total of 20 fresh ST students are provided with scholarships to pursue Master Degree, Ph.D, Post-Doctoral courses, study abroad

The portal is integrated with Digital Locker and fetches documents already available there and also provides the facility to upload documents not available on digilocker, the official website revealed. 

It is mentioned that any bachelor level courses in any specializations will not be covered under the scholarship scheme and only 20 awards per year would be sanctioned to ST students.

NOS Scholarship 2022: Eligibility Criteria 

Students from the following background are eligible to apply under the scheme. 

(i) Scheduled Castes 

(ii) Denotified Tribes

(iii) Traditional Artisans

(iv) Landless Agriculture Labour

NOS Scholarship 2022: Details 

The revised guidelines reveal that the ministry informed that high priority will be given to candidates who have already obtained a preliminary letter/offer of admission. 

Candidates who have qualified coveted exams like GRE/GMAT/TOFEL and have stared applying to various universities will be given second priority thereafter other candidates will be given priority. 

Specialisations such as Engineering, management, economic/finance, pure science, applied science, agriculture, medicine, humanities, social science will be covered under the NOS scheme.

In case, if the successful candidates are not available to the extent prescribed for either of the above listed categories, the awards for that specific year would be interchangeable vice-versa between the above categories. 

It should be noted that a total of six awards (30%) have been earmarked for female students. However, in case the earmarked slots remain unfilled, these slots may be transferred to the male students. 

NOS Scholarship 2022: How to Apply? 

Step 1: Visit the official website @nosmsje.gov.in. 

Step 2: Open the NOS Scholarship 2022 form and fill in all the details as prescribed. 

Step 3: Fill the Foreign University/Institute Details and the Qualifying Degree/ Examination Details. 

Step 4: Fill employment details and the Visa Application details. 

Step 5: Provide income details and check all the details. Now, hit the submit button and download it for future reference.
