Nine Billion Rupees Sanctioned for NIT Uttarakhand Permanent Campus

The Union Human Resource Development Ministry has sanctioned over 9.09 billion INR to construct a permanent campus for the National Institute of Technology (NIT) in Pauri, Uttarakhand.

According to an official statement, 8.31 billion INR will be spent on building a permanent campus at Sumaro village for NIT Uttarakhand in Pauri, while the remaining amount will be spent on upgrading the facilities at the temporary campus in Srinagar Pauri.

Trivendra Singh Rawat, the Chief Minister of Uttarakhand, remarked that a long-standing demand of the people of Uttarakhand was being fulfilled, adding that quality education will be promoted in the state with the construction of the permanent campus of NIT Pauri.

He added that the construction of a permanent NIT campus at Sumari will further fortify the local economy. The state government has taken charge of bearing the costs of road-building near the institute. It will also provide power and water supply.

In 2019, the Governor of the state, along with the Chief Minister and the HRD Minister, had laid the foundation stone of the campus. The foundation stone was laid ten years after the institution came into being.

The foundation stone was the consequence of student protests after two B.Tech students had an accident on the National Highway that divides the temporary campus and the hostel premises. As a mark of protest, 900 students had boycotted classes.
