National Institute of Technology (NIT) Andhra Pradesh motivates the institute faculty, undergraduate and postgraduate students, and PhD research scholars towards innovation and entrepreneurship.
The department of Biotechnology of NIT Andhra Pradesh and the Centre for Research Innovation Incubation and Consultancy (CRIIC) conducted a five-day online workshop on ‘Scope for Technopreneurs in Academic Institutions’ between October 4 to 8, 2021.
In the workshop, the institute encouraged and motivated the faculties, students, and researchers towards innovation and entrepreneurship skills. With the help of the workshop, the researchers, students, and faculty members got sensitised to innovation, incubation, and entrepreneurial activities, which created a robust start-up ecosystem in the academic institutions.
Addressing the inaugural event and talking about the aim of NIT AP and CRIIC, the NIT Andhra Pradesh Director, Prof CSP Rao, said that the objective is to nurture the ideas and insights of students in an entrepreneurial way.
Further, the main aim is to develop an action plan in an organised manner, that would assist in learning from mistakes; seeking advice from mentors, understanding what it takes to succeed are some of the thoughtful inputs to be considered before starting a business, he said.
NIT Andhra Pradesh Courses 2021
During the workshops, some of the key topics covered were as follows,
- Development of entrepreneur competences citing case studies
- Birds eye view of Make in India
- Inculcating the skill of innovation among students
- Government schemes available for academic institutions
- Start-up schemes and road maps for successful start-ups by students
Further, Prof Rao said that the teaching-learning process should be oriented in a way where the societal problems and issues are addressed through various effective solutions given by students so that they become technopreneurs.
According to the National Education Policy 2020, the teacher's duty is to discuss subjects pertaining to problem-solving skills to infuse technopreneur abilities in the student's minds.

Dr.T Jagan Mohan Rao, Head, Department of biotechnology, NIT Andhra Pradesh, addressed the inaugural lecture saying that the academic Institutes can produce successful entrepreneurs by integrating the best teaching practices and inculcating the skills of the innovation and entrepreneurship into the curriculum, that would also strengthen the cooperation with the government and various funding organizations to develop the creative ideas and innovations of young minds to lead them as a successful entrepreneur.
He added that the workshop aims to point out the role of academic Institutes in developing and setting up the tech start-ups and also emphasize on the various pedagogical outlooks, in order to foster the creative thinking, innovation, and team-working skills of students.
