Prof. Subhasis Chaudhuri, Director of IIT Bombay conferred ACC-CDAC Foundation Award at IIIT Bangalore

New Delhi: IIT Bombay Director Professor Subhasis Chaudhuri, has been conferred the ACCS-CDAC Foundation award for the academic year 2021 at a ceremony held at IIIT-B. 


The prestigious ACCS-CDAC award recognizes the IIT Bombay director's outstanding research in the area of Computer Vision and Computational photography. 

This award is given to prominent scholars and researchers for their tremendous inputs in the field of advanced computing and communications. 

The ACCS-CDAC award also carries a cash prize of INR 100,000/- and a citation, was conferred on him by his teacher and mentor in the august presence of luminaries from academic and industry at IIIT-B

Prof. Chaudhuri's teacher and mentor, Prof. Biswanath Chatterji conferred the award to him in the presence of luminaries from academic and industry at IIIT-B. 

This significant industrial impact is due to Prof. Chaudhuri's constant and seminal contributions in the area of computer vision and computational photography. 

Mr. Jailendra Kumar, President of ACCS congratulated Prof Chaudhuri for his path-breaking work and putting India on the map of International research in Computer vision. 

Acknowledging the ACCS-CDAC award, Prof. Chaudhuri said that he's humbled by the recognition of his work by ACCS. Such recognition goes a long way in further motivating them into research to find technological solutions for the enrichment of human life. 

In his congratulatory message, Mr. Magesh Ethirajan, Director General of C-DAC said that Prof. Chaudhuri’s research contribution in computer vision has spurred many products and startups in the field of computer vision and computational photography in India.

Further, Prof Chaudhuri's effort highlights the capability of Indian institutions in delivering cutting edge research, Ethirajan added.

About ACCS-CDAC Award 

The ACCS-CDAC award was instituted in 2004, by the ACCS and the Center for Development of Advanced Computing (CDAC). It fosters development and dissemination of theories and applications of computing and communications sciences. 

ACCS-CDAC award is given to individuals/ scholars/ researchers with outstanding contributions and accomplishments that have had a significant and demonstrable impact on the practice of computing and communications.

Every year, the executive council of the ACCS invites eminent personalities from the field to nominate professionals, who have made exceptional contributions in computing and communications industry, academia, and research laboratories. Thereafter, the winner is selected from among the nominees by a panel of experts.
