Rajasthan Government Sanctions INR 7.46 Cr; IIIT Kota to get a permanent campus finally

Kota: The Rajasthan State Government issued a lump sum amount of INR 7.46 crore for the establishment of the permanent campus of the Indian Institute of Information Technology in Kota, this Sunday.

The contribution will hopefully kick start the long-jolted construction procedure of the permanent campus of the IIIT-Kota in its permanent location of Ranpur. Honourable Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot declared the state’s share of 7.46 crore for immediate sanction. He also emphasized that the amount of state’s share be utilized as per the RTPP Act.

The permanent campus of IIIT-Kota was meant to be constructed with the help of the collaborative Public Private Partnership or PPP Model. Union Government, State Government, and three eminent private companies joined hands in this project back in 2013.

Since then, the construction was halted for various political and financial turmoils. In this long span of 7 years, the whole construction procedure has witnessed potent financial troubles and vested interest that put the work to a complete stop, failing to achieve its promise.

After the contribution of the state government share, as per the reports, the construction is going to be kick-started within December 2020. It is estimated that the whole construction will take roughly 2 years to complete.

Despite having no permanent campus, the IIIT-Kota has been functioning successfully from its temporary MNIT Campus in Jaipur since 2013.

The very first batch of IIIT-Kota from its MNIT Jaipur campus passed out in the year 2017. As of 2020, three batches have passed since 2013. Inception of this project was announced back in 2013 in Ranpur, Rajasthan. A total area of wide 100.37 acres was also acquired.

But, the process was severely halted for 7 years due to several political as well as personal interests from various parties. So far, the permanent site of the IIIT-Kota has witnessed the construction of the boundary walls only.

The Detailed Project Report, also known as DPR, was submitted in 2017. The Private partnership of the four companies Vakrangee Limited, Genpact, NBAC Bearing, and Cairn India along with the Union government has also contributed already.

The state government was the last and final head. This announcement from Mr Ashok Gehlat has given this project of IIIT-Kota its final fuel.
