Symbiosis Pune Inaugurates Women’s Medical College; Admission from 2020


Symbiosis Pune has inaugurated its first-ever Women’s Medical College, Symbiosis Medical College for Women under the Faculty of Health Sciences. Admission is open for 2020-21 session, selection for which will be based on NEET (UG) 2020.

The state of the art facilities at the medical college cum hospital is aimed at empowering women and foresee a rise in female doctors in the country. Earlier, Symbiosis International (Deemed) University (SIU), Pune was granted permission by the Medical Council of India to establish this all women’s medical college.

As stated by Dean, Faculty of Health Sciences, SIU, Dr Rajiv Yeravdekar, the university will be awarding five scholarships. Named as Anandi Gopal Scholarships, it will act as a full-fee waiver for the whole MBBS programme.

Alongside this, Symbiosis University Hospital and Research Centre (SUHRC) will have several benefits to the Medical College with its ‘A++’ accreditation added to its name. As per reports, Symbiosis will begin admission in MBBS program for the academic year of 2020-21.

The university offers a total intake of 150 students each year.  It has also promised free education for 5 pupils.

Candidates will be selected based on their NEET UG 2020 Merit List. However, as NEET got considerably deferred due to the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic, it reflected on the admission process as well. As of now NEET (UG) 2020 will be held on September 13, 2020. 

Set up in the plush campus of SIU Pune, is the  Symbiosis Medical College for Women and Symbiosis University Hospital and Research Centre. The hospital has a total capacity of 900 as of now. 

The medical college has been set up adjacent to its subsidiaries, Symbiosis School of Biological Sciences, Symbiosis Institute of Computer Studies and Research (SICSR)Symbiosis Centre for Stem Cell Research, Symbiosis Centre for Behavioural Studies and Symbiosis Centre for Medical Image Analysis and many more at its Lonavala campus. 

The location will definitely create an environment provokes focusing on deep research and development. The university has also roped in proficient teachers across the country. 

Apart from excellent academic infrastructure, residential facilities are sound enough within the campus. College is fully air-conditioned and facilitated with libraries with an endless collection of national, international textbooks and medical journals.

This will bring forth the skilled women doctors who are ethical and skilful medical professionals. With this ideology and prospects offered, Symbiosis Medical College for Women will be the first medical college in India to offer free education. 

As per the Dr Rajiv Yeravdekar, the college will exercise modern and interdisciplinary pedagogy to impart practical knowledge. The college has plans to work towards enforcing a culture of hands-on training in its ultra-modern Simulation Centre and Cadaveric Lab.
