New Delhi: In a statement, University Grants Commission (UGC) Chairman, M. Jagadesh Kumar stated that 16.85 lakh students have registered for the Common University Entrance Test (CUET UG 2023), a 41% increase over the previous year.
The National Testing Agency (NTA) administered the CUET UG 2023 exam for the first time last year in order to provide admissions to UG and PG courses to central universities and other participating colleges. This year, 242 universities in all have chosen to accept CUET 2023 scores for UG admissions.
The UGC has asked colleges and universities to assist NTA and commission in holding the CUET UG 2023 examination. It was stated that using university facilities may be required to conduct the exam.

Delhi University has got the most CUET-UG applications, with Banaras Hindu University, Allahabad University, Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University, and Jamia Millia Islamia following closely after.
The majority of candidates are from Uttar Pradesh, with Delhi and Bihar coming in second and third. The number of candidates from Jammu and Kashmir has increased significantly. 13,021 students from this region took the CUET-UG in total in 2022. Yet, this number will climb to 82,655 in 2023, representing an increase of 6.3 times.
Students applied to CUET-UG last year from 59 different countries. According to M. Jagadesh Kumar, 1,000 students from 74 nations in Europe, Asia, the Americas, and the Gulf countries would be enrolled in 2023.
The number of students who will take the CUET-UG 2023 has increased by 31% from the northeastern states of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, and Sikkim as compared to 2022. CUET-UG 2022 was given by 59,208 students from these states, whereas 77,365 students have applied for CUET-UG 2023.
There has been a significant increase in the number of applications from students in the ST category. "In 2022, it was 58,881 and in 2023, it is 95,119, indicating an increase of 61.5%. A similar increase has been observed in other categories too. For SC category candidates, the submitted applications in 2023 are 1,40,307, an increase of 35.5% compared to the last year," Kumar said.
"For candidates belonging to the OBC-NCL (OBC-Non Creamy Layer), General-Unreserved, and EWS categories, there have been 4,61,022, 6,42,443, and 60,611 applications submitted respectively in 2023. This shows an increase in applications for the OBC-NCL, General-unreserved, and EWS categories relative to 2022 of 45.2%, 39.6%, and 20.5%, respectively " Kumar added.
