The action is taken in response to the University Grants Commission's advice (UGC). On May 6, 2019, the Center proclaimed the institution to be a deemed-to-be university and prolonged the deemed status until 2024 with specific restrictions.
According to a statement issued, "In executing the powers granted by Section 3 of the UGC Act, the central government do hereby enable Koneru Lakshmaiah Education Foundation, Vijayawada, Andhra pradesh to set up an off-campus centre at Bowrampet Village, Medchal Malkajgiri district, Greater Hyderabad from the academic year 2022-23."
After five years, UGC will examine the off-campus facility. The deemed university must meet requirements such as submitting a legal commitment to maintain a corpus fund of INR 10 crore consistently, preserving the teacher-student ratio, getting approval to begin offering courses, etc. in order to manage the off-campus centre.
The Ministry Of Education has issued a Letter of Intent (LoI) to the deemed university on the direction of the Center, requesting that it adhere to certain requirements.
The requirements include a teacher-to-student ratio of at least 1:20, faculty numbers of at least 25, a minimum enrollment of 500 students, a built-up area of at least 30 square metres per student, and at least three postgraduate departments with research programmes at the centre.
According to the official response, UGC evaluated the application through a standing committee that uniformly suggested the granting of a Letter of Intent (LoI) to Koneru Lakshmaiah Education Foundation, Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh.
The LoI also mentioned specific requirements before the beginning of an off-campus centre at Bowrampet Village, Medchal Malkajgiri district, Greater Hyde.
