The same has been announced by the UGC on Thursday, 16 July 2020. These days, the exams are only possible through online or offline modes depending upon the decision of the universities.

Also regarding conducting final exams by September, the status update has been made by the higher education authorities in view of the opposition made by certain states against conducting the exams. This was done as COVID cases are rising daily across the country. As a part of his service, the commissioner had also urged the universities for a status report on the conduct of the exams.

Thereafter, he received reports from 640 universities, out of which, 120 were included as Deemed, 229 Private Universities, 40 Central and 251 State Universities sent their reports on the conduct of the exams. As per the statement made by the UGC in which it claims that out of 640 universities, 454 universities are still in favour of holding exams and are planning to execute it as soon as possible.

182 Universities are taking exams through online and offline mode. ON the other hand, 234 Universities are to conduct their exams in the month of August- September 2020. While 38 Universities are planning to conduct exams as per the guidelines issued by the Statutory Council, a total of 177 universities are still in great dilemma on conducting their final exams.

Apart from this, as per the revised UGC Guidelines, it was decided to conduct exams in the month of September 2020 instead of July. However, states like Punjab, Maharashtra, Odisha, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal and Delhi etc. have clearly boycotted the plan of conducting exams due to COVID-19 situation prevailing across the country.

Therefore, earlier it was informed by the UGC to promote first and second-year candidates on the basis of the previous results and internal assessments. As a result, they will be exempted from taking their exams. Only the final year candidates are mandatorily supposed to appear for the examination.
