New Delhi: Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) has organised its 9th Annual Convocation 2023 at Guwahati Off Campus on February 05, 2023. The event was attended by UGC VC Prof Deepak Kumar Srivastava, who praised students for their perseverance during the pandemic.
Addressing the Annual Convocation 2023 at TISS, UGC Vice Chairman Prof. Deepak Kumar Srivastava shared that he is grateful by seeing the growth of graduates and faculty members. The campus was ideally poised to address the various challenges faced by the people.
In his speech, he added that "TISS serves as an inspiration to other higher education in the country. It aims to instil a deep-rooted pride, and intellect and to teach students about global well-being in the pursuit of making them global citizens".
UGC Vice Chairman shared that his presence at the TISS campus is more meaningful as he was once the deputy director of the off-campus. He worked as the director when the institute was moving to its permanent campus back in the summer of 2017.
The event was held on the campus ground in the presence of Bharat Bhushan Dev Choudhury, Chairman of Assam Public Service Commission (APSC) as well as Professor Shalini Bharat, Director of TISS, Professor Bino Paul, Deputy Director of TISS Mumbai Campus.
At the event, Prof Kalpana Sarathy, Deputy Director of TISS Guwahati Off-Campus awarded 149 students with degrees. Among them, 4 students were awarded PhD degrees, 7 students with MPhil degrees, 100 students with MA and MASW degrees and 38 students with BA (Social Science) degrees.
Prof Bharat read out the address of Vijay Singh, Chairman of Governing Board of TISS, who stated: “how the graduating students have progressed enormously in the process of earning their degree and have become intellectually enriched".
He urged students "to drop on the ethos of TISS Guwahati for reimagining the future". The event ended with a vote of thanks by Prof Jagannath Ambagudia, Dean of the School of Social Sciences and Humanities at TISS and the felicitation of the guests.
