Universities across India who rely on international students will hit badly, says Dr. Raghu Ramakrishnan, the Director of International Collaborations at Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE).
In an interactive session with TOI, Dr. Raghu spoke about Universities facing huge losses incurred by the Covid-19 Pandemic and the upcoming challenges in the higher education field.
Problems that the Education Sector will face
Dr. Raghu Ramakrishnan talked about the problems that the education sectors in India will face in the upcoming years.

He says that most of the Indian universities relying on international students for revenue will face severe financial hit, as there will be a drop of the foreign students taking admissions in Indian universities, post the pandemic. Read More to know about MAHE Admission 2020
Many of the faculties have already been laid off by the varsities as a cost-cutting measure. Although the online classes are being conducted for foreign students, the students who don't have facilities are in a disadvantageous situation.
Varsities are compelled to change their approach towards education and find a solution that will ensure the student’s and faculty’s safety.
However, the pandemic has played a spoilsport role causing huge problems to the education sector in India.

As of now, All the international courses at MAHE have been suspended till January 2021.
An online platform, Manipal Academic Exchange Student Traineeship And Research Outreach (MAESTRO) has been introduced that provides internships programs and virtual exchange.
MAESTRO was developed to evolve new methods to complete the previous projects. MAESTRO has offered the students an opportunity for international exchange and much-needed global exposure.
There's another proposal in the varsity, which will help the students to enhance their program value without charging any fee.
MAHE's Contingency Plans
The Coronavirus crisis will create a major impact on everyone's lives, and business.
Dr. Raghu says that this is an unprecedented time and it won't fade away any time soon.
MAHE adapted the situation quickly, from taking administrations online, to rolling out classes digitally, everything was quickly planned and executed.
The Education Institutions are expected to remain shut until further notice by the government. Meanwhile, the universities will have to blend with online education only.
