UP Free Smartphone Scheme 2021: Uttar Pradesh State Government is now preparing to distribute free smartphones and tablets to graduate students of the state under its free smartphone scheme of 2021.
Under this scheme, the UP state government is now preparing to offer smartphones and tablets to college and institute students who are now pursuing graduation from any government-recognized education institute/college of Uttar Pradesh state.
The UP Free Smartphone Scheme 2021 was launched by Sri Yogi Adityanath, Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh for students graduating from technical, medical, and nursing institutes on August 18, 2021. The scheme will offer students an opportunity to become digitally proficient.
During the meeting held on Saturday, November 06, 2021, the UP Chief Minister, Yogi Adityanath has directed the Uttar Pradesh State Government to start the preparation of free smartphones and tablet distribution in the state.
The officials are now preparing a list of eligible and registered candidates for the UP Free Smartphone & Tablet Scheme 2021. The list is expected to be prepared by the end of November 2021. After the list submission, students will be offered free smartphones and tablets.

Referring to the initiative, the officials said, "The educational institutions are distributing and disseminating teaching materials, tutorial lectures to the students through online mediums. The facility of data access through internet connectivity can also be availed at affordable rates.”.
“The smartphones/tablets will make the youth residing in the urban and rural areas of the state-educated, trained and self-reliant" the statement further added.
Earlier, while announcing the UP Free Smartphone Scheme 2021, the state government presented a budget of up to a supplementary budget of 3000 INR in the state assembly. The budget was presented to make students digital and to offer digital education to students.
As of now, the Uttar Pradesh State Government has invited bids to buy 2.5 million smartphones and tablets for students. More procurements on the same are expected to be made by the government.
