The major differences between life at AIIMS Delhi and AIIMS Patna have been listed below

  • AIIMS Patna is located in the exterior of the city making it difficult to even grab a quick meal at a restaurant. Even the nearest market is at a distance of 3 km.
  • It’s a no-brainer that AIIMS Delhi has a larger and more diverse patient load than any other AIIMS and offers a variety of cases for students.
  • AIIMS Patna has a rigid hostel ambiance and strict rules have to be followed.
  • The annual fest of AIIMS Delhi is the largest college fest organized by a medical institute in India and provides a unique experience
  • AIIMS Patna has more campus space than AIIMS Delhi which is excessively crowded.

Overall, the main difference between AIMS Delhi and other AlIMS is that AIlMS Delhi is the original and largest campus, and the other AIlMS campuses are modeled after it.

I am an MD Dermatology Junior Resident at JIPMER. I can give you some details about my college.

During the first 6 months of your MD, your working hours will be from 7am to 9pm for most days. Working hours may change depending on the number of patients admitted. Your working hours will decrease for the next 6 months.

Are AIIMS Bhubaneswar and Jodhpur as good as AIIMS Delhi? Are they better than medical college Kolkata?

AB
Akriti Banerjee Posted On : June 4th, 2023
lives in New Delhi

While AIIMS Delhi is the first choice for every medical student, my sister chose AIIMS Bhubaneswar over AIIMS Delhi. Here are a few reasons that made her take this bold decision.

  • The primary most factor that should determine your choice of college should be its proximity to home. Bhubaneswar is just 6 hours by train and 45 minutes by flight from our home. She loved the fact that she could make surprise visits anytime.
  • AIIMS Bhubaneshwar food is scrumptious and the taste is similar to homemade food.
  • Food is just like home. My GIT is at peace now.
  • Students of AIIMS Bhubaneshwar get huge PG hostel rooms right from Day 1. AIIMS Delhi does not allot rooms right away and you will have to stay temporarily outside the campus.
  • The hostel facilities at Bhubaneshwar are much better than in Delhi. This is the primary reason that made her choose AIIMS Bhubaneshwar as she wanted a peaceful hostel life.
  • The hostels are well-secured even for girls with a security guard downstairs 24/7. You can easily access electrical and plumbing services in case of any issues.
  • AIIMS Bhubaneshwar has flexible rules and you can take a stroll around campus or walk on the terrace, anytime.

I believe the choice of your college should depend on the level of comfort you feel there so that you can study in a healthy environment without getting frustrated.

What are the approximate food expenses in AIIMS Delhi per year?

VM
Vedant Mishra Posted On : June 4th, 2023
MBBS from All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi

The average cost of a mess meal in AIIMS Delhi is around INR 40-50. For vegetarians and around INR 120 for non-vegetarians. Breakfast and snacks are less expensive than lunch and dinner. To name a few

  • Chole Bhatoore- 20 rupees
  • Samosas- 5 rupees a piece
  • Momos- 35 rupees a plate(non-veg).

On average, you will spend 200 rupees a day on food. This includes extra snacks that you have in between meals like biscuits or cold drinks. The total comes to around 6000 rupees monthly and 72000 rupees yearly.

The total expenses standing at the end of the month including laundry, ironing, hanging out, and other miscellaneous expenses will stand around INR 8k-10k. I don't think these expenses can be considered high given the fact that the annual AIIMS MBBS Fees is INR 1,389.

Which is better for neurosurgery, CMC Vellore or AIIMS Delhi?

PA
Puneet Aarya Posted On : June 8th, 2023
MBBS from All India Institute of Medical Sciences

To pursue a specialization as complex as Neurosurgery, AIIMS is definitely the best choice. CMC Vellore is also a leading medical institute but the brand and credibility of AIIMS are unmatched.

A few highlights of the institute that makes it worth choosing are

  • AIIMS has a well-adapted system, a huge patient load, modern technology, renowned consultants, and well-equipped theaters.
  • AIIMS has a well-managed patient management protocol and executes the latest techniques in its surgical practice.
  • AIIMS provides an excellent cadaveric training facility with frequently conducted cadaveric courses.
  • AIIMS also has animal training labs where you can expertise on your microsurgical skills.
  • Delhi, the capital of India is the huh of everything. A city life, opportunities, hangout places, and coaching institutes.
  • Surprisingly enough, CMC Fees are much higher than AIIMS even though the salary at AIIMS is more than double of CMC.

Again, I don’t consider CMC any less but the above points are in strong favor of AIIMS.

Is there any dropper who got selected in AIIMS Delhi?

VM
Vedant Mishra Posted On : June 5th, 2023
MBBS from All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi

No doubt, AIIMS Delhi is one of the most prestigious medical schools in India, and being selected is a very significant accomplishment. However, there are still many droppers that make it into AIIMS Delhi so don’t lose hope.

One such example is a distant cousin of mine, Dr Ajay Mohan who attempted his AIIMS entrance in the year 2010 and could not crack it. He took a drop year and prepared rigorously again for the entrance. He secured a very good rank in 2011 and got selected for AIIMS Delhi.

I recently met him and he told me wisely that dropping a year and re-attempting an exam are not necessarily bad things provided that you are certain that you will come back stronger with better scores.

How good is it for medical aspirants to know about life at AIIMS Delhi?

DV
Deepika Verma Posted On : June 10th, 2023
Student at All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi (2017-present)

There is no harm in knowing about the life you will be experiencing and the environment you will be exposed to for the next 5-6 years. Having information about the top-notch facilities of AIIMS Delhi in advance might actually motivate you to work harder and make it happen.

You will be exposed to the best facilities like private rooms for everyone, a 24/7 operating library, and global recognition. However, every coin has two sides and likewise getting into AIIMS and surviving there is not a cakewalk.

Being a part of AIIMS has its own demands. You will always be considered superior to your counterparts and thus your work and skills should be a reflection of that. Remember this profession requires humility of a very high level. Earlier it was the seniors who trained you and helped you grow as a person but nowadays there isn’t much harmony between them.

As a part of AIIMS, it’s your duty to make the most out of the academic opportunities as well as extracurriculars and grow as a better human being.
