When comparing IIM Rohtak to IMT Ghaziabad, the preference varies from person to person. IIM Rohtak is unable to match IMT G's history, its extensive network of corporate connections, and its superior learning environment and segment of the population.
IIM Rohtak is unquestionably a good choice, and it will get you the IIM name, which IMT Ghaziabad lacks. If you are certain that you want to pursue marketing, then disregard IIM Rohtak. When it comes to marketing, IMT G easily outperforms it.
There isn't much of a difference between IIM Rohtak and IMT Ghaziabad, so your decision between them ultimately depends on how you want to shape yourself if your options aren't limited to marketing or if you haven't decided what you'll pursue and explore once you enroll in the B-school. If either of these situations applies to you, then you must make a personal decision.
If you want to study marketing, IMT Ghaziabad is the place to be. If you decide on anything other than marketing, you will end up getting hired for the same corporate positions. IMT G, as a brand, currently offers better prospects than IIM Rohtak and has much more to offer.
Your English grades have no bearing on your ability to perform well at either IIM Indore, or IIM Rohtak, IPM exams. The type of English skills required to pass the IPMAT (or any other entrance exam) differs greatly from what is taught in schools. You have plenty of time to prepare and will undoubtedly do well if you are consistent in your preparation.
Begin with Pearson's IPM entry guide. There are currently no IPM-specific books available from any other publisher. Check to see if you can answer the questions. If you believe that a book alone will not suffice, consider taking online classes from a reputable coaching institute.
Entrance is not the only selection criterion; you must also prepare for the PIWAT. Practice writing essays for the WAT (Written Ability Test). The actual topic could be anything under the sun, so you must be adaptable enough to come up with something creative in 20 minutes. Look for previous WAT IPM and CAT topics online and practice them. You'll get better with practice.
Then there's PI. The conversation usually revolves around your academics, general knowledge, hobby, or general HR concerns. For that, you must be well-versed in current events from the previous six months as well as your 12th syllabus. Do general knowledge and current events in addition to your regular preparation, and brush up on your academics a week before the interview.
Because these institutes lack the resources to conduct their own selection process, all of the new IIMs use a Common Admission Process (CAP). If you have received calls from older IIMs, new IIMs will accept your scores from those institutes and you will not be required to take the CAP. Furthermore, there is no GD in CAP, only Written Ability Tests and Personal Interviews.
Many students who have taken the CAP exam say that the interviews are just like any other, except that the stakes are higher. The questions typically include an introduction, hobbies, questions about work experience and academics, and general knowledge questions in the case of freshers.
One of my friends faced a similar problem while choosing among all of the second-generation IIMs - Trichy, Kashipur, Udaipur, Ranchi, Rohtak, and Raipur. Let me share his experience which might give you a basic idea.
IIM Trichy and IIM Udaipur were his final two options. The following are the reasons why he chose IIM Trichy:
The extempore topics at IIM Rohtak interviews usually comprise the hot topics or current affairs of the present and previous year. Some of them might be related to elections, bills passed, the pandemic wave, vaccination, or social media.
You might also be asked about the trending Business strategies. They can ask you about the changes in every industry due to the pandemic. Study the recent trends in various industries like retail, pharma, health care, education, and manufacturing.
One thing to keep in mind is while speaking, try to deliver your content precisely and concisely. Don’t go into detail as they care about your manner of delivering more than your content.
IIM Trichy and IIM Rohtak are superior to Udaipur and Raipur.
Because of their location, the former two IIMs have an advantage over the latter two. One is close to a prestigious engineering college, while the other is a short distance from the capital.
In the 2020 National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) management school ranking, IIM Trichy was ranked 15th. Goldman Sachs offers INR 21-23 LPA; JP Morgan offers INR 21 LPA; Axis Bank offers INR 18-20 LPA, and ICICI Bank offers INR 20-22 LPA.
IIM Rohtak is also a good option for a Finance MBA. It has a favorable environment for Finance specialization. The institute has a strong faculty. The student population is competitive. You will be in classes with gifted students. The peer group is also quite diverse. There are people from various academic and cultural backgrounds present.
Honestly speaking, a career in investment banking should not be considered by the new IIMs. It’s a too ambitious profile to match the relatively new curriculum of these IIMs. Even if you are in a top B School, you will have to remain among the top students to get placed for a front-end role. One can still get roles in corporate & business finance but getting roles in Investment Banking is rather difficult.
Yet if you are not choosing an older IIM and want to choose a newer one, IIM Trichy is the best among them. The order is
IIM Trichy > IIM Udaipur > IIM Ranchi
There are many B Schools apart from IIMs that offer great Investment Banking roles. These include SPJIMR, JBIMS Mumbai, IIFT, and XLRI.
Comparing the new IIMs with the IIM ABC is rather ridiculous and not justified. Considering factors like infrastructure, faculty, and alumni base, the top IIMs are way ahead of the new ones. Even if the new IIMs tackle the infrastructure and faculty issue they can never match the extraordinarily strong alumni base of the older IIMs. The IIMs A, B, and C have given birth to many geniuses that have contributed largely to Indian society in various fields like arts, literature, sports, etc. They have even made impressions globally.
No matter how fast the new IIMs climb up the ladder and excel, they will never be able to match the alumni base and worth of older IIMs.
At IIM Rohtak, it’s the students that are the driving forces of the campus. They are the ones who initiate clubs and committees. Some famous clubs and committees of IIM Rohtak are
Entrepreneurship and Innovation Council: This council aims at creating a community that is self-reliant and instills an attitude of being a job creator instead of a job seeker. It holds talks, organizes meets, and launched its own website to do so.
Marketing club: This club is for the ones who are interested in the Marketing domain as it helps its members to gain experience in marketing-related roles. For this, it holds events like solving riddles to create marketing campaigns and creating sales pitches to solve case studies.
Finance and Investment Club: This club has its own monthly magazine Arbitrage. It helps the students display their knowledge through top articles that catch the attention of reputed B Schools and corporates.
Supply Chain and Operations Club: It recently conducted a webinar on Digital Supply Chain. It was delivered by Mr. Sandeep Chatterjee, CEO, of ISCEA India.
Analytics club: This club helps instill knowledge and skills related to programming. It also publishes a monthly magazine, “Analytica,” covering the latest news, quizzes, and articles related to analytics.
Human Resource Club: This club provides amazing experiences about HR work-life to students who are interested in this domain. For this, it conducts the HR of the year competition.
Some clubs related to the social development of students at IIM Rohtak are
Some clubs that promote exciting activities are
Sports Committee
It is the student-driven culture at IIM Rohtak that renders an ambiance favorable for clubs and committees.
Some of my friends studied in both these colleges. According to them, MDI Gurgaon is definitely better than IIM Rohtak. Let me give you some reasons to support their statement and why PGP IM will be a good choice.
Thus it is suggested that you go for the MDIs PGP IM course as it will provide enough exposure in your chosen industry. Do not only rely on the IIM tag, check for better faculty, alumni and academics while considering a college.
