Mathematics and Computing is a stream that contains concepts of mathematics merged with sophisticated computer science. It is evident that computer science fundamentals are dependent on applied mathematical skills, but in the present syllabus for M.Sc in mathematics and computing, things are not as they used to be.
The table below gives a brief overview of the integrated course in BIT Mesra.

Key highlights:
According to surveys, most students in mathematics don’t have enough concepts built in Information Systems, Computer Architecture, Data Mining, HPSC, Numerical Analysis, Cryptography, and Network Security. These concepts are essential for software design, simulation, and analysis in engineering economics, military, aerospace, etc. The integrated course in Mathematics and computing is the best bridging stream in this scenario, providing an all-in-one knowledge-based syllabus on both mathematical concepts and computer science technologies.
Overall, the Mathematics and computing stream, though comparatively newer to the institute, is now under a tremendous rate of progress and is worth opting for.
Comparably BIT Pilani will offer better career options for Chemical Engineering. Also, one of my friends attends BIT Mesra for Chemical Engineering, so I have some idea about the course at the institute.
BIT Mesra:
In his branch, there are 60 chemical engineering students and 60 polymer students. The size of the batches does cause an issue during placements. On average, around 30% of students get placed with core companies. You may also want to consider these points.
Faculty and Teaching Methodology:
The faculty assigned for chemical engineering are IITians with PhDs, but their pedagogy is average. You'll be given a lot of quotidian assignments which do not have any scope of exploration.
Infrastructure:
The chemical engineering department has laboratories packed with flow meters, filters, and other important tools but the overall infrastructure is not up to the mark.
Grading System:
Getting a good CGPA is a bit difficult because of the grading system and strict faculty.
In general, the program is full of average students who are not very creative. Most students mug up the syllabus to score well. As for placements, here is a table.

Even though the highest Salary offered was INR 39 LPA, it was non-core. If you have the option, opt for other colleges. Top NITs will be good options for pursuing Chemical Engineering.
A friend of mine provided me with a clear picture of how the MBA program is at BIT Mesra. The management department at BIT Mesra was established back in 1979 and has resourceful faculty.

This year a lot of great companies visited BIT Mesra for the recruitment process. Some prominent companies are ICICI bank, Bandhan bank, Bajaj, Godrej, Airtel, Biju’s, etc.
It is better than any private college with a similar placement record. In short BIT Mesra is a good place where you can better equip yourself with the facilities available and grab the best out of it for a better future.
The placement scenario of BIT Mesra is pretty good, considering the highest and average placement packages respectively. The table below gives a brief overview of the placement in BIT Mesra.
Average Salary offered (per annum) in B.Tech branches (CS & IT) |
Rs.10-15 Lakhs |
Average Salary offered (per annum) in Integrated M.Sc branches |
Rs.9 Lakhs |
Highest Salary offered (per annum) |
Rs.35-40 Lakhs |
Key Highlights:
Overall, it is considered that BIT Mesra has an upper edge in B.Tech placements (mostly CS & IT), though Integrated M.Sc students get decent offers too.
BIT Mesra has a good track record of placements for its B. Pharma graduates. Here are some placement stats for B. Pharma at BIT Mesra:
The placement stats for BIT Mesra B. Pharma are quite promising, with a good number of reputed companies visiting the campus for placements and a high percentage of students getting placed. Graduates from the program can work in a variety of roles in the pharmaceutical industry and can expect to earn an average salary of around Rs. 3-4 lakhs per annum.
BIT Mesra is better than NIT Jamshedpur, especially for branches like Computer Science and Information Technology. It offers excellent placements for these branches. Companies such as Microsoft, Amazon, Walmart, Direct-I, etc. recruit from the institute. While many of these institutes don’t visit NITJ. According to the recent highlights of BIT Mesra placement, the average package for CSE is around INR 13 LPA.
Saying “BIT Mesra is better than IITs” can be a big remark. But considering the fact that the institute was established in the year 1955, one can say that BIT Mesra is one of the old reputed institutes in India. BIT Mesra can be compared to the new IITs in terms of infrastructure, campus, placements, alumni, etc. Comparing BIT Mesra with newer IITs you can find that the BIT Mesra is much better.
The table below will give you a brief insight into BIT Mesra.

However, if you have an option to choose the same branch in BIT Mesra and New IITs, you should go for IITs. The reason for this is that the new IITs are growing at a very fast pace. Also, the IIT tag offers certain advantages. People with IIT tag in their resume get preference over people from other institutes in various situations such as placements or CAT/ GRE/ GATE/ GMAT.
BIT Mesra Ranchi CSE branch is considered to be excellent, in terms of placement. There are several reasons supporting the success rate of students from the CSE branch in the industry.
