If the college from where one do an MBBS does not matter, why should one aspire to study in AIIMS Delhi?

OR
Ojas Reddy Posted On : June 5th, 2023
Studies at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (2024)

First of all, the college from where you do your MBBS matters a lot. There is no second opinion on this. Irrespective of many people claiming otherwise, trust me, an MBBS from a good college matters a lot.

Everything is affected directly. The better the institute, the better the quality of lab sessions, the better the faculty, and the more hands-on experience on dissection. Top medical colleges provide better

clinical exposure than average colleges. A good college teaches you better to tackle problems. The hostel facilities also play a major role in this. A more comfortable learning environment increases your potential tenfold. The hostel facilities of AIIMS are top notch with single rooms from the first year itself. It’s these small differences that bring out a bigger result.

AIIMS Delhi is rightly the dream college of many, as it provides the best education, opportunities, and facilities. Yes, your own passion also is a major determining factor but the institute equally plays a big role. The opportunities it offers make you realize your actual potential.

What are the perks of doing MD in emergency medicine from AIIMS Delhi?

OR
Ojas Reddy Posted On : June 5th, 2023
Studies at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (2024)

There are several benefits to pursuing an MD in Emergency Medicine from AIIMS Delhi, which is considered one of the leading medical institutions in the country. Some of these benefits include:

  • Exposure to a diverse patient population: AIIMS Delhi is a tertiary care center that receives patients from all over the country and abroad, providing students with a wide range of clinical experience.
  • Renowned faculty: The faculty at AIIMS Delhi are highly qualified and experienced, and are recognized leaders in their field. This means that students will receive a high-quality education and have access to top-notch mentors.
  • Cutting-edge technology: AIIMS Delhi is equipped with the latest medical technology, which allows students to learn and work with the most advanced equipment.
  • Research opportunities: AIIMS Delhi is a research-intensive institution, and students can participate in ongoing research projects. This can provide valuable experience and help students develop a research focus.
  • Reputation: AIIMS Delhi is a well-respected institution, and an MD from AIIMS Delhi can be highly valuable for career prospects.

Overall, EM is a very interesting branch that requires excellent thinking skills. Many students are attracted to this field but the bitter reality is that this field is yet to make its place in India.

Although AIIMS has trauma cases as well, the overall exposure and opportunities are less. The job prospects are bleak and you won't ever be able to have your own private clinic. Moreover, anyone, even an anesthesiologist or an MD medicine or a DM critical care can replace you. I recommend you go for anesthesia rather than EM as the former has more opportunities and guarantees a bright future.

How should a dropper smartly study for the next 6 months to crack the AIIMS/JIPMER/NEET?

KC
Kushal Chaudhuri, Posted On : September 21st, 2023
MBBS from Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research, Pondicherry (2018)

One of my friends was a dropper and managed to crack AIIMS. When asked about his strategy, he told everyone that he would perform the self-introspection exercise. In this, he would take his NCERTs and open the index.

Point out every chapter and rate your knowledge out of 5 in each topic. Rate yourself honestly to determine your strengths and weaknesses. Perform the same exercise for every subject and you will realize how much you lagged behind. This will also instill in you a desire to study hard and overcome your weak points. Study at least one chapter you are weak at thoroughly every week. Soon those chapters will become your favourite.

So, self-analysis is the key!

Why don't students of peripheral AIIMS prepare for USMLE, unlike AIIMS Delhi students?-

OR
Ojas Reddy Posted On : June 5th, 2023
Studies at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (2024)

First of all, it's untrue that students of other AIIMS need to clear USMLE and move abroad for higher studies. In my sister's batch 5–6 seniors cleared USMLE from AIIMS Bhopal and moved abroad. However, the number of students going abroad from other AIIMS is certainly less than in AIIMS Delhi. Here's why

  • AIIMS Delhi students are entirely guided by their well-placed alumni in foreign countries while the students of other AIIMS have no one to guide them.
  • IIMS Delhi provides a perfect environment to move to states for further studies owing to its excellent research opportunities and faculty recommendations.
  • It's the AIIMS Delhi tag that enjoys global recognition and not all AIIMS have been able to reach the global market.

However, over the past few years, there is a significant decrease in the number of AIIMS Delhi students moving abroad after MBBS. I think the major reason for this change is that India now provides excellent academics and opportunities in medicine that are on par with global standards. Ultimately it's the individual's choice to clear USSMLE and go abroad or stay in India and do their PG from AIIMS.

If an MBBS graduate is having an option of choosing between AIIMS NIMHANS MCh neurosurgery 6yr course then which institute is the best to opt to? What is the advantage of one over the other?

GS
Gurpreet Singh, Posted On : October 19th, 2021
M.S. in Surgery, All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) (2019)

This is a choice that can vary from individual to individual. It is each student’s unique preference of certain things like location, curriculum, alumni, crowd, etc. that influence their choices.

One of my friends cleared both the entrance exams at the same time but opted for AIIMS over NIMHANS, due to its location. Being a North Indian he felt it would be easier to blend in rather than getting accustomed to a new culture, food or place.

Also, he mentioned that the Neurosurgery course will only provide an McH degree and no MS degree. This was also another concern for him and why he in the end went for AIIMS.

Therefore, you should think clearly and point out all the pros and cons of these institutions. Check which one is satisfying all your requirements and then go for it. Both AIIMS and NIMHANS are reputed institutions, graduating from any of them will prove to be great for your career. If you are North Indian go for AIIMS, if South Indian opt for NIMHANS.

Are there any differences in an MBBS (academics and hostel life) among the AIIMS, Delhi, and MAMC?

AB
Akriti Banerjee Posted On : June 5th, 2023
lives in New Delhi

Here are a few points of differences between MBBS from AIIMS Delhi and MAMC

  • The quality of education offered is definitely better at AIIMS Delhi because it accepts only the top 50 while MAMC accepts 250.
  • The internship opportunities are better at MAMC than at AIIMS
  • PG at MAMC is better than at AIIMS as the latter provided minimal clinical exposure; they.
  • AIIMS has mostly rare cases and very less communicable diseases like typhoid, tuberculosis, malaria, and pneumonia in AIIMS.
  • Most AIIMS students are sent to Safdarjung Hospital and there is capping on OPD patients as well. PGI Chandigarh is better as they don't shunt patients anywhere and keep all of them.
  • Most AIIMS faculty do not belong to AIIMS and they are not much familiar with its technology while at MAMC you can manage most of the cases from the second or third year of your residency.

I feel at the DM level AIIMS is better but for cardio and gastro, MAMC is better. Ultimately the choice depends on your personal preferences.

Which college should I choose, peripheral AIIMS or KGMU?

RT
Raktim Tarafdar Posted On : September 26th, 2023

One of my cousins got selected in both AIIMS Gorakhpur and KGMU. However, he chose KGMU because of the following reasons

  • KGMU is a state college.
  • It is one of the oldest colleges and has a legacy of more than 100 years.
  • It has a huge patient inflow
  • It’s most famous for its beautiful Infrastructure and lush green campus.
  • It’s the capital of UP so there are many location advantages too.

However, the only drawback is that you will have to serve the bond for 2 years.

AIIMS Gorakhpur on the other hand is a newly established institute so it will take time to grow.
