Which college is better for an MCh Neurosurgery AIIMS Delhi or NIMHANS?

PM
Priya Mathur, Posted On : October 19th, 2021
MD Psychiatry from Department of Psychiatry at National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences (2018)

This is very difficult to differentiate, as both of them are hugely notable for Neurosurgery. But like every other institution, they also have their fair share of pros and cons. Let me discuss some facts about both the institutes, analyzing which you can make your final decision.

  • AIIMS has given many good Neurosurgeons. It has a high credibility value.
  • It has got a dedicated trauma centre, cadaveric training and research facility, neurosurgical education and training school, and animal dissection lab.
  • NIMHANS is a dedicated mental health and neurosciences institute.
  • It has got NBRC - Neuro-Biology Research Centre which provides proper infrastructure for research and technology advancement.
  • There is no difference in the quality of work, patient management protocol, etc. at both institutes.
  • The only thing bothering the students of AIIMS is the increase in faculty members. This divides the surgical work and less share comes on part of residents.
  • NIMHANS has fewer faculty members as compared to AIIMS.

You can also choose the college favoring your location. North Indians generally opt for AIIMS while South Indians will go for NIMHANS.

Ultimately, it depends on the student’s choice, because both the institutions are equally good. But a university name does not matter, it might give you the first push but after that your training and your work will speak for themselves.

Which is the best hospital for Contoura Vision, Eye7 or AIIMS, Delhi?

AB
Akriti Banerjee Posted On : June 10th, 2023
lives in New Delhi

Without any second thoughts, AIIMS Delhi is one of the best eye hospitals in India providing excellent services in the field. There are only a few hospitals that offer Contoura Vision and AIIMS Delhi is one of them. Being a government hospital, you can be certain of its credibility and avail of the services at a much lower rate.

However, like any other government college, you will have to wait hours even after booking an appointment. Sometimes people refrain from going to AIIMS just because of the tiring preliminary steps that require multiple visits. If you too have no financial constraints and don't want to waste time m, go for Eye7, a private hospital. Eye7 hospitals were the first to introduce Contoura Vision, so they conduct the maximum number of Contoura Vision surgeries in the whole of India. The devices are offered quickly and cost a lot.

One of my friends got his surgery done from Eye7 and told me that all his preliminary tests were completed within 3 hours and his surgery was scheduled for the very next day. The survey went smoothly and the follow-up was also worth it.

So if you have no financial issues and want a quick surgery, Eye7 is the best place for you but if you are okay with investing time and saving money then AIIMS Delhi will serve you best.

What type of medical checkups do they conduct at AIIMS Delhi while admitting students in MBBS?

AG
Aditya Ghose Posted On : June 10th, 2023

Every AIIMS conducts several medical checkups before admitting students in M.B.B.S. Some of these include

  • blood tests
  • ECG
  • Eye tests
  • Normal Height and weight parameters

Rarely does anyone fail these tests as they are just for general purposes. The reason these tests are conducted is to prepare you for the dangerous environment you will be working in. It’s better to know the personal health information of the students to prevent any major issues. For instance, those with low WBCs must take more precautions as they are more vulnerable to diseases like TB. However, these tests should be taken seriously as one of my friends shared a story that was really shocking. A student’s ECG was being tested and some issue was found.

Further diagnosis revealed a hole in his heart. Had these tests not been conducted his condition would have worsened.

Is it true that the quality of education in AIIMS Rishikesh is worse compared to AIIMs Delhi?

PA
Puneet Aarya Posted On : June 8th, 2023
MBBS from All India Institute of Medical Sciences

I refuse to believe that the quality of education in AIIMS is any less than in AIIMS Delhi. AIIMS Rishikesh is one of the fastest-growing AIIMS and has so much potential. Like everybAIIMS, it has its unique curriculum that is updated frequently to meet the needs of the students. Some unique aspects of the AIIMS Rishikesh curriculum are

  • AIIMS Rishikesh follows a 100% objective exams pattern and the questions asked are based on clinical cases and not textbook questions.
  • The 3rd year in addition to the 3 subjects every AIIMS has, also covers 3 additional subjects namely Orthopaedics, Psychiatry, and Dermatology.
  • AIIMS Rishikesh has one of the best lab facilities with Simulation labs where students are trained with BLS, suturing, cannula insertion, different types of injection, ABG, and many other things.
  • AIIMS Rishikesh also organizes an inter-college competition and students participate actively.
  • AIIMS Rishikesh has a well-balanced faculty-to-student ratio.
  • The faculty of AIIMS Rishikesh is very learned and dynamic and conducts lively classroom lectures.

Overall, AIIMS Rishikesh gives equal importance to research and education and this doesn't mean its quality of education is any less than other AIIMS.

How is life at AIIMS Patna, Bhubaneswar, Bhopal, Jodhpur, Rishikesh? Is it as cool as life at AIIMS Delhi?

TA
Tithi Aggrawal Posted On : June 10th, 2023
Lives in New Delhi

Life at AIIMS Delhi cannot be compared to other AIIMS as it is the mother AIIMS and will always be a notch better than others. Also, its location plays a major advantage in giving you the best college-life experience.

After AIIMS, what was fulfilled by expectations of a dynamic college life was AIIMS Jodhpur. It certainly is heaven for food lovers and has many watering openings every now and then. For everyone, there is a set criteria for a good college life and for my sister, it was one that gave her freedom and academics on the same plate. AIIMS Jodhpur ended up as the best choice fulfilling both criteria.

  • AIIMS Jodhpur has a huge campus that is maintained decently and is very safe. My sister loved strolling across the campus and enjoying the serenity of the campus.
  • There are many places to travel to during weekends and Rajasthan is a good option.
  • AIIMS Jodhpur is known for its dynamic sports environment which is better than any other AIIMS.
  • There is no ragging and harmony between seniors and juniors is a common sight.
  • The college holds amazing intercollegiate sports and a cultural fest. These are well-organized and attract students from many colleges.
  • The professors are cooperative and approachable so you don’t have to hesitate for getting any doubts cleared.
  • Every junior is assigned a mentor either from faculty or seniors that guides them and helps them

AIIMS Jodhpur offers a splendid college life second only to AIIMS Delhi.

Can I crack AIIMS Delhi in 12 months without coaching?

VM
Vedant Mishra Posted On : June 8th, 2023
MBBS from All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi

Yes, you can crack AIIMS Delhi in just 12 months without any extra coaching. All you need is a lot of dedication and a well-made timetable

  • NCERTs are the best for Biology and Inorganic Chemistry. Go through these thoroughly and try to memorize every single word and diagram.
  • As far as Physics is concerned, Khan Academy or Unacademy videos are really helpful as they explain the concept excellently. Once you have understood the concept, solve the previous year's questions to check your knowledge gained, and repeat the process till you cover most of the topics. The same procedure can be followed for Organic and Physical Chemistry.
  • Remove all distractions, especially your phone, and computer

So, with the right set of dedication and determination, you are likely to crack AIIMS. Remember, coaching is not necessary but your willpower certainly is!

Does AIIMS Delhi sponsor those research trips to Hopkins?

SK
Singdhanjan Kar Posted On : June 8th, 2023
MBBS from All India Institute of Medical Sciences,New Delhi (2020)

No, the research trips to Hopkins are not sponsored by AIIMS Delhi and the students alone have to bear the expenses of the same.

It’s the students who initiate the process and executive everything without any help from the institute.

They start by sending their CV to the professor, getting the required medical tests done, booking the tickets, visa and looking for a decent place to stay. On some occasions, AIIMS Delhi even opposes its students going to Hopkins at the expense of missing classes here.

Personally, I feel even if the trip is unsponsored the expenses you bear are worth the result. You are exposed to a foreign work culture and learn so many new things you would never have been able to in India. You also get to explore different places!
