What are the differences between an older IIM like Indore and Kozhikode and a newer IIM like Ranchi, Rohtak, or Trichy?

PS
Prateek Sagar Posted On : January 10th, 2023
studied MBA in Marketing at Indian Institutes of Management (2020)

The first-generation IIMs clearly have many advantages over the second and third-generation IIMs. Some major differences include

  • Infrastructure: Thenodler IIMs have their own permanent campuses whereas most of the newer IIMs either function through a temporary campus or have a permanent campus that is not at par with the older IIMs.
  • Faculty: The older IIMs have better experienced and learned faculty than the newer ones. Also, the visiting faculty is much better at these IIMs. The student and faculty strengths are therefore strong here.
  • Placements: The older IIMs have long-standing ties with corporate firms and top companies excelling in the placements scenario and leaving behind the new IIMs.
  • Corporate Exposure: The exposure at older IIMs is better than that of newer IIMs due to their early establishment.

What are the chances of converting IIM Kozhikode with a 450 waitlist in NC OBC?

MS
Mahak Sengupta Posted On : June 2nd, 2023
PDGM from Indian Institute of Management Kozhikode (2016)

The chances are pretty dim since the past trends show that the NC OBC waitlist movement went till 400 and although last year it went on till 480, to be on the safer side make some back up plans.

You need to realize that waitlist movement is reliant on so many factors. It's simple maths; IIMs have nearly 5000 seats and BLACKI is the first 5 choices of almost all the students.

We all know that the selection process for admission to the IIMs is rigorous and only a small fraction of students convert their first preference in the first shortlist and where do you think the remaining students are at for the time being? They take admission in their backup colleges and IIMK is a popular choice among top percenters, so you need to wait patiently but don’t anticipate too eagerly.

No matter whether you study inboth programs. It entirely depends on your interest in the subject. If you are interested in agriculture or in the food sector then think nothing and go for the FABM program but if you are not interested in this field then you can go with the general PGP program at IIM Indore or Kozhikode.

How much percentile is required in CAT to get IIM KOZHIKODE if I have 85.55/84.4/7.55 in 10th/12th/b.tech from NIT-B fresher with OBC category?

Let’s say you only require to score 80+ percentile in three sections. Will this stop you from working towards more?

You should always give your best first and then look at the results to find out if that worked or not. Aim high and try to score 99.9+ percentile.

Tabulated below are the minimum eligibility criteria for PGP at IIM Kozhikode:

Particulars Minimum Criteria Score
CAT Percentile 75
Sectional Percentile 65
10th Score 60
12th Score 60

Give your best and try to achieve the highest possible score and then everything will work out for you. Focus on the preparation and make a good strategy.

Which B-school should I choose amongst IIM-Kozhikode and MDI Gurgaon? I am a fresher and interested in learning marketing and eventually want to take a job in consulting.

If you're considering between MDI Gurgaon and IIM Kozhikode, it would be suggested to go with MDI Gurgaon. Here are some facts to consider:

Firstly, when it comes to faculty, MDI Gurgaon has a larger number of faculty members, with 75 plus members, while IIM Kozhikode has 63. This could potentially mean a more diverse and extensive range of courses and subjects.

In terms of placement packages, MDI Gurgaon has a competitive record. The average package offered during MDI Gurgaon placements in 2022 was INR 26.2 LPA, and the average packages offered in 2021 and 2022 were INR 22.05 LPA and INR 23.15 LPA, respectively. While the highest and median packages offered during the 2022 placement drive of IIM Kozhikode were higher at INR 61.5 LPA and INR 26.5 LPA, respectively, MDI Gurgaon's average packages are still competitive.

Additionally, MDI Gurgaon has a more extensive alumni network than IIM Kozhikode, which can be beneficial in terms of career opportunities and networking.

When it comes to fees, MDI Gurgaon's PGP program is more expensive, costing 17.15 lacs, while IIM Kozhikode's PGP program costs 14 lacs. However, this difference in fees could be outweighed by the potential benefits of studying at MDI Gurgaon.

Lastly, it's worth noting that MDI Gurgaon is based in Delhi NCR, which is the capital of India, while IIM Kozhikode is based in Kozhikode, Kerala. This could potentially impact your overall experience and opportunities, depending on your personal preferences and career goals.

I have 4 years of work experience in e-commerce. Is the IIM Kozhikode EPGP beneficial for me? As opposed to other IIMs its a 2-year course.

The profile you have will suit the two-year (hybrid model) EPGP program. If you do not wish to leave your job then this course can be good for you. Otherwise, you can go for full-time programs of one year at IIM ABC, SP Jain, or ISB. These are currently some of the top one-year programs.

E-commerce has gained a lot of popularity over the years and the scope is tremendous. Having work experience before joining an IIM will always get you plus points.

You will have good placement opportunities in IIM Kozhikode. The recruiters who visit the institute also offer very attractive packages. The average package is also high which makes the ROI manageable. If you take EMI it can be paid easily in five years. Internship opportunities are also provided to the students.

What is the admission criteria for IIM Kozhikode?

RB
Rishika Batra Posted On : January 25th, 2024
Studied MBA from Indian Institute of Management Kozhikode (2021)

During the shortlisting at IIM Kozhikode, a candidate is selected on the basis of his/her CAT score, 12th marks, graduation score, work experience and academic and/or gender diversity.

98 percentile is decent enough to get you an interview call if you have a very good academic record and 3 or more years of work experience. But to convert the call, you’ll have to perform well in the GD PI round. The final shortlisting gives a high weightage to GD PI and/or WAT and work experience of a candidate.

Make sure to score high in your CAT exam, and perform equally well in the GD PI/ WAT round. This will increase your selection chances at IIM Kozhikode.

There is no such thing as a single most crucial question in the PI of IIM Kozhikode, or any other B-school for that matter. Some things you must not compromise on our understanding of your topic of study and fundamental GK; you must know your profile like the back of your hand. The most essential thing is to keep your cool when you don't know the answer to a question or two; a lack of confidence will cost you far more than not knowing the answer to a question or two.
