How is chemical engineering at IIT Kharagpur?
I will throw some light on the harsh reality of Chemical Engineering at IIT KGP or in India generally.
- There is no quality Chemical engineering education in India.
- There are NO private chemical engineering companies in India.
- There isn’t a single Engineering college in India that has given any chemical engineers.
- Most Engineering aspirants from top colleges pursue computer engineering to become software engineers. The companies visiting for placements are not interested in academic credentials but look for the TopCoder and GitHub profiles of the job applicants.
- Others become Managers in the industry and start earning really well. The companies hiring managers depend largely on the past academic records of the candidates.
Chemical Engineering in India is almost non-existent and the job prospects of the same are nill.
I will complete my MSc in applied geology next year from IIT Kharagpur. What should I do to opt for a PhD program at IIT Bombay/IIT Kharagpur?
The first step in the journey of getting a Ph.D. degree is giving either of these exams; GATE, NET, CSIR, or UGC. Next, you have to decide on a particular field in which you will be conducting your research. After this, you have to look for a faculty advisor that has experience in the kind of research work you are looking for. His teaching style should necessarily align with your learning style. Conduct extensive research on the topic you will be working on.
IIT Bombay: Here, you are required to do some coursework on the topic you have chosen. Choose the course that will give you more opportunities than others. Most Ph.D. students take some courses only to make up the required credits. This is not right as you will miss the opportunity to learn so much from every department. The most preferred courses are CS and Modelling at IIT Bombay.
One can even upgrade their skills in Mathematics and Statistics. Other courses that might help you in research work are fluid mechanics, soil mechanics, inorganic chemistry, solid-state physics, and thermodynamics.
Basically, you should choose your coursework not only for credits but to get knowledge of the research work you will be doing. Seek help from your advisor on the same.

The major prerequisites for preparing for the UPSC CSE exam are NCERTs, the standard books I have mentioned, and The Hindu newspaper. These will help you ace the exam. Which B school should I choose between VGSoM IIT KGP and IIM Nagpur?
When considering graduate business programs, it is important to weigh the various factors that may influence your decision. IIT Kharagpur's Vinod Gupta School of Management (VGSoM) has a long legacy and robust alumni network, spanning over 25 years. The answer to this question is determined by what you are passionate about. A large number of students choose to go for electrical engineering. This branch guarantees a lot of lucrative placements. You can also hone your skills while working.
My friend graduated from IIT Bhubaneswar and he thinks it is a great institute for pursuing electrical engineering. The only thing missing in new IITs is exposure and strength.
IIT Kharagpur is an old IIT and things are very organized there as the old ones are more often than not. You will have more industrial connections and you can hone your skills in coding. You can enhance your knowledge of artificial intelligence and IoT among topics that are trending.
Most Indian students do not have much passion to work in companies based on core metallurgy. If you are concerned about your placements then the circuit branches like CSE, ECE, EE, EEE are better than the rest of the branches.

Electrical engineering involves a lot of mathematics along with physics so it is difficult. Metallurgy, on the other hand, includes physics, chemistry. Despite being a relatively easier course, if you happen to lose interest, completing the program can really become a chore. Both courses take a lot of effort to complete so choose wisely.

A 65% in graduation shouldn’t be a deterrent during placements. Companies generally look at how you perform in your MBA. The academic percentages are only there for cut-offs and having more than 60% for that is sufficient.
During placements, you should be able to showcase your skills and those skills should align with what the firm is looking for at that point in time. Make sure you participate in competitions as it opens up your mind and helps you gain significant knowledge on a number of different topics and perspectives. Perform above average in class when it comes to academics/cgpa, and have some achievements under your belt. That will help you stand out.
Which MBA college should I prefer (background is from B.tech hons (CS) and have 15 months work experience), IIT KGP or IIM Trichy?
The best way to answer your query is to mention the core highlights of MBA from both institutes.

- The MBA course here is more of technical nature as the program is one of the many departments of a huge Technical institute
- The peers are very talented and genius
- The small batch size increases the opportunities for placements
IIM Trichy
- The MBA experience here is much more diverse and challenging. You will find peers from diverse backgrounds.
- The pedagogy here is top notch as they specialize in this area
- IIM Trichy has a better academic rigor and their style of Management education is too good
- IIMs offer better food and infrastructural facilities
I will sum up my answer with 2 points. If you are looking for job prospects outside India, IITs are a good choice. But within India, IIMs are a better option as their style of Management surpasses that of IITs.
Which one is the best for marketing: IMI Delhi, IIT-KGP, IMT Ghaziabad or IIT Delhi?
IMT Ghaziabad is the best option for Marketing. It has an excellent student crowd. There are good opportunities for peer-to-peer learning. The competitive environment on campus motivates students to perform better. IMT has a brilliant Marketing faculty. The alumni of the institute are working in top positions in the marketing domain.
IMT Ghaziabad placements are good. Marketing students are recruited in core/sales/media/digital/advertisement roles. For Marketing, the salary packages offered are in the range of INR 8 LPA - 11.92 LPA.
