What are the activities and events organised in IIEST, Shibpur?

KK
Kalyani Kesari Posted On : June 29th, 2021
B.E. Metallurgy and Materials Engineering, IIEST Shibpur (2018)

There are various events and activities occasionally held right from the time you join IIEST Shibpur. I have some idea about the events since I have a few friends studying there. Here are some of the events of IIEST.

  • The first year typically focuses on quiz sessions at the beginning of the academic year. It is mainly, as many consider, a process for enlisting in the quiz club.
  • In the first year, the students enjoy one cultural program, known as the Novus Initium.
  • If you are anyhow interested in sports, then you can try enlisting in the sports society at the athletic department.
  • There is the inclusion of another society, known as the Robodarshan Society which apparently is a Robotics Club.
  • If you are interested in music or relevant branches of it, then you can join the society named, Euphony.
  • For anything related to dramas and plays, then the courtesy goes mainly to Les Thespians.
  • There are regular programming sessions conducted and opened to all. It is hosted by CodeIIEST.
  • Alongside these, the annual techno-management fest, namely Instruo, conducts various sorts of competitions as well.
  • The cultural fest mainly held in the campus is called “Rebeca.”

These are to name a few of them. There are several more, like Gyandhara which is a quiz festival hosted by Quizmania Beings, where you do not necessarily have to be part of the institute to participate. Udbhabani (Civil), Metallum (Metallurgy), Initium (Mining) are various of the departmental fests of IIEST, Shibpur.

Can I get IIEST Shibpur any branch with rank 34692?

AP
Ashutosh Pathak Posted On : July 2nd, 2021
Metallurgy and Materials Engineering at IIEST Shibpur (2017)

It is possible to get into departments such as Metallurgy, Mining, and Aerospace, with a rank as you mentioned above. You can also get into the Civil engineering department, assuming that you belong to the general category.

Moreover, it also somewhat depends on whether you are from the home state or not. You should run a deep check on the latest cut-off as placed for this year.

Here is the cut-off of recent years for both home state students and students arriving from other parts of the country to help determine if you are likely to get selected.

Course Home State Students Other State Students
Aerospace Engineering 31814 14589
Civil Engineering 40148 35795
Computer Science and Engineering 11796 11947
Electrical Engineering 21436 22481
Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering 18954 18249

Which is better between mining at IIEST Shibpur and mining at BIT Sindri?

PS
Pablo Sengupta Posted On : June 28th, 2021
B.Tech Mechanical Engineering, Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology, Shibpur (2019)

IIEST Shibpur is better than BIT Sindri in terms of placements, infrastructure, and academics. There are a lot of resources available to you and if you are willing then it will be a great learning experience for you.

The college is more than 160 years old and thus has a huge list of alumni base. It has recently been converted to an Institute of National Importance (INI) and is equivalent to an NIT.

The campus also offers a great scenic view. Some of the placement stats of mining engineering for the year 2020 are given below.

  • Highest CTC- 14 LPA
  • Average CTC- 7 LPA
  • Lowest CTC- 4 LPA

So IIEST Shibpur edges ahead BIT Sindri according to the opportunities they offer. You can definitely talk to other students and form your own opinion as well.

Which is better, civil at IIEST Shibpur or NIT Rourkela?

IB
Indrani Bhattacharya Posted On : July 9th, 2021
Civil Engineering, Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology, Shibpur (2019)

IIEST Shibpur is a national university and the 2nd oldest engineering college in India. NIT Rourkela has a good civil engineering department as compared to the civil engineering department of other NIT’s.

In comparison to IIEST Shibpur, NIT Rourkela will be a better choice for you. The college provides better infrastructure, placements, and good college life. It is also way ahead of IIEST Shibpur in the NIRF ranking.

Accordion to the recent placement highlights, the highest and lowest CTC offered at NIT Rourkela is 42 LPA and 3.5 LPA. For IIEST Shibpur the lowest and highest CTC are 2.53 LPA and 39 LPA, respectively.

Overall, NIT Rourkela will be a better alternative. However, you should do your own research regarding the institute before deciding on one.

What should I do to create an attractive CV? I am a first-year Civil Engineering student at IIEST, Shibpur.

AB
Ankita Bose Posted On : March 14th, 2021
IIEST Shibpur

The term attractive is relative, in the context of a CV or resume. You just showcase your skill-set, education, work experience, etc in these documents. Yes, a CV can be well-organized or well-formed. A well-formed CV may be found attractive to one recruiter and in the very same way, it may be found dull to some. So, there is a pinch of luck factor also required. So first you need to consider for what company you are going to apply. Your CV should be target-specific and must target a company that is interested in the skills you have. For Example, If it is an analytics firm then put some extra effort to showcase your interpersonal skills as well as your extracurricular activities. If it is a core technical job then vocational training and other academic projects should be highlighted well.

To make a good cv consider the following points.

  • The font size should never exceed 16. A minimum would preferably be 12. This font looks professional.
  • Use professionally used fonts like times new roman etc. Don't forget to make certain comments bold or underlined.
  • You should have an email id that doesn't contain anything funny. For ex- if someone named Aditya Ghose makes his email id adityarocks@gmail.com it will not come across as professional.
  • Don't forget to use margins in ur CV. Your CV should look clean and spacious.
  • The declaration is not needed for campus placement. If you try off-campus then you have to write a declaration to verify that it's your cv.
  • Make use of a table to write down your academic qualifications and your percentage of marks, CGPA, etc.
  • The most important thing to note is that a CV should never start with the title CV or Resume.
  • Don't forget to convert it to .pdf format as it looks more professional.

Hope this was helpful. You can also consult various websites to understand the process better. You can also download some formats for your reference.

Can I get subjects of IS and CS at IIEST, Shibpur?

KR
Kritika Roy Posted On : June 10th, 2021
B.Tech Electrical Engineering, Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology, Shibpur (2020)

I have a few friends from IIEST, Shibpur and many of them are unaware of the subjects of IS. As for CS, it is available but you will have to score quite high as the cutoff for the branch has been pretty high in recent years.

A few years back, in around the year of 2016, the cut-off for in and outside students of West Bengal was around 12,000 and 19,000 respectively. This was when IIEST, Shibpur offered a 5-year B.Tech + M.Tech Dual Degree course.

In 2017, the institute started a 4-year B.Tech course, making the cut-off go under a drastic change. The cutoff for the CS branch of IIEST, Shibpur became even higher. Here is the cutoff for CS in recent years.

Round

2020

2019

2018

6

11633

11464

12084

You should check the official website for the latest cut-off of IIEST, Shibpur to get a better understanding of the cutoff trends.
