What are the best student organizations or clubs to join at IIIT Allahabad? Why should students join them?
Different clubs have different importance and it totally depends on your interest and passion which club you want to join. Some clubs are far more popular than the others among the students on campus. You might take your time to figure out the right one for you. Make sure that whichever club you join, lets you explore yourself apart from academics.
Although Rangtarangni is a personal favourite among many students in IIIT Allahabad, there are a number of unique and interesting clubs for the students to join.
Drama Society captures emotions of all those interested in stage acting, theatrics, drama and more. The club is also known to host a number of events throughout the year and is quite an active one.
Virutoshi is the music club which gives a very soulful experience to all its members as well as audiences in all their performances. Sarvasa is the literary club to ignite the bookworms on campus.
For students interested in photography and videography, there is the Acoustics club. This club serves as an excellent platform for anyone who wishes to explore this industry either as a hobby or maybe something more as well. I have seen a large number of students getting to learn and then become ace photographers just because they were a part of this club at IIIT Allahabad.

Why is everyone so mad about coding in IIIT Allahabad?
IIIT Allahabad holds a great position in coding. The curriculum, placements, and facilities for IT at IIIT Allahabad are commendable. Also, some of the top-level coders across the country are from IIIT Allahabad. We also organize a fest “hack in north” which is the largest tech fest of India.
There is no such thing as being mad about coding. It’s just that students at IIIT Allahabad have different opinions about coding.
Various categories of students are:
- Students with good interest and passion towards Coding. You see them doing coding the most but that doesn't mean they are mad for it. They do it because they enjoy it.
- Students who are studying just for placements and think Competitive Coding will help them get placements (I think it's just a Myth). You might call them people mad for coding; however, they are very few.
- Students who find competitive coding boring and drop the idea to pursue that. They practice programming like basic DS and Algos instead, and rarely try to attempt Topcoder or Codeforces.
In the end, students of all categories eventually achieve success, but the better ones I feel are Category-1 and 3 for the reason that they succeeded by doing whatever they enjoy.
Which are some of the popular restaurants near IIIT Allahabad and how far are they?
This question can be answered thus: even though IIIT Allahabad is an esteemed institute in the top 100 list of the NIRF Engineering colleges rankings, and with a placement rate of above 95%; its shortcoming is its location. Yes! The institute is located in a rural landscape with no good i.e. popular restaurants nearby. Here are the particulars:
- The IIIT Allahabad institute is located in Deoghat (Jhalwa) village. So you'd have to walk more than two to three kilometers to find any decent restaurant.
- Although if you're willing to travel into the city area, up to 8-9 kilometers away from the location, you'd find plenty of good eateries in Civil Lines (CL).
- You'll see that most of your seniors and batchmates will be out during weekends to go to CL for a dining experience at KFC, McDonald's, or Domino's; away from the mess food.
Not only this, there are good theatres like the PVR cinemas at Vinayak City Centre. If you're fine with a desi-eating experience, then Malik's Dhaba should be your place to eat delicious parathas near the college. Also, 16 Kms away from the Yamuna Bridge is the Baba Ka Dhaba, structured in the highway Dhaba style, and if not that, then a forest-themed restaurant known as Friends Forever is the closest to IIIT Allahabad, just 300 meters away. What should I choose for CSE IIIT Allahabad or VIT?
When it comes to IIIT Allahabad, there are a few things that you should know before making a decision: You should choose for CSE IIIT Allahabad over VIT.
- Firstly, the institution is commonly referred to as IIIT A, despite there being no difference between IIIT and IT. Contrary to popular belief, there is no significant difference between CSE and IT, as the course structure at IIIT A is top-notch and highly regarded in India. You can refer to websites such as Quora to get an idea about the placement statistics and course structure ranking in BRICS, or to clarify any doubts you may have.
- However, it is important to note that if you are interested in exploring other fields of engineering, you may not receive much exposure at IIIT A. The primary courses offered here are IT and ECE.
- On the other hand, if you are passionate about coding and aspire to achieve something big in the field of computers, IIIT A is an excellent choice. The institute has a range of technical societies, such as the Competitive Coding Wing, Web Development Wing, FOSS Wing for open source software development, Graphics Wing, Networking Wing, and App Development Wing, among others. These societies provide exposure to all aspects of computer science that you may not find in many other engineering colleges.
- When it comes to VIT, it is important to note that you may not be able to expect top-notch faculty, as the institution is run by a private organization that does not have to provide feedback to anyone about the people they bring in to teach. This is in contrast to IIIT A, which is a government-funded institution and therefore employs top-notch faculty (although not necessarily the best in India). Additionally, there is an entrance exam, but there is no proper cutoff, and students of all kinds are admitted.
- If you are a female student, it is important to consider the safety and security measures in place at VIT, as it may be a concern.
- In terms of exposure to the "coding culture" and other similar things, IIIT Allahabad is a better choice.
- Finally, it is worth noting that there are students at IIIT A who have qualified by category ranks that may differ by 10,000. While this is not a significant proportion, it is worth considering if you are concerned about reservations.
What are the prerequisites for IT in IIIT Allahabad?
There are no such specific prerequisites. You can develop an interest in coding within one year if you are interested.
The programming courses in the first year entail the comprehensive usage of C. It definitely is an extensive course and will take up time. You will learn the basics of it in the first year. The course includes parts like Functions, Pointers, Linked Lists, Data Structures, Object-Oriented Programming, etc.
Although, having knowledge of Python helps. If, however, you've arrived with no knowledge at all of what that is, then it is fine too. Classroom teaching does not help that much for learning to code. Mostly, you will need to learn the aspects of this language with your own efforts.
If you have any spare time, learning basic front-end web development will assist in the long run as well, like HTML, CSS, JQuery, and Javascript (If possible). This will help explore a variety of other opportunities outside your curriculum.
Is IIIT Allahabad a one-dimensional institute where people are just too enthusiastic about coding?
No, Not at all. The environment of coding at IIIT Allahabad is highly intense because there are a lot of those students who are really fond of coding. But apart from that, there are a lot of those students who are also preparing for other competitive exams as well like CAT/ MAT/GMAT/GRE. Hence, one cannot say in the generalization that IIIT - Allahabad is for coding-lovers only.
A larger number of alumni from IIIT-Allahabad are in major universities like Stanford University, Carnegie Mellon University which is the best in Computer Science and Research Studies, which proves the above statement. To summarize all this, there are a lot of people who come to the institute because they have that intense zeal of learning coding and they do it very well while there are some other students as well who follow their own passion amid the peer competition and highly pressurized learning environment.
Can I choose IIIT Allahabad for IT over NIT Nagpur for CSE?
According to my brother's experience, if you want to pursue CSE then NIT Nagpur is one of the best places. However, if you have less interest in CSE then go for IT from IIIT Allahabad.
- Both the colleges are considered among the top most colleges in India.
- Being IIITian at a very early age is like the biggest achievement according to your career perspective.
- You can adjust yourself very well as the peer group and environment is excellent to expand your horizons and get the best out of yourself.
- The placements are really attractive to all the students here.
- Major recruiters that come during placement drives every year include Microsoft, Facebook, Oracle, Adobe, Sisco, JP Morgan, and many others.

Which is better for IT and CS, NIT Patna or IIIT Allahabad?
As one of my close friends studied in the computer science department at NIT Patna, I can say that it is not at the same level as that of IIIT Allahabad. IIIT Allahabad is much more effective compared to NIT. Having studied at IIIT Allahabad, let me give you some facts as to why it stands out.
- IIIT Allahabad focuses on programming languages extremely well for those who are planning to master this field.
- Many MNCs also hire students from IIIT Allahabad. Many top global companies like Facebook and Google hire young students for their talent. You will probably not find these opportunities at NIT Patna.
- Moreover, IIIT Allahabad also has a really big 100-acre campus with 24/7 lab facilities. Compared to this, Patna is quite small.
- If you are staying in the hostel, the facilities there are good too.
- Lastly, if you are into sports, these facilities are not available at NIT Patna as compared to IIIT Allahabad.

Should I join TCS or IIIT Allahabad?
You should first ask yourself, “What do you want?” Do not go for M.Tech from IIIT Allahabad just for the sake of an extra degree. Do not make this attempt if you do not have that zeal to learn. If you want to have a good career option and you are ready to learn more and dive into the core concepts of your graduation then only opt for M.Tech. Pursuing M.Tech from a reputed college like IIIT-A will definitely help you. But if you want just a degree then you will be dragging a load of studies for 2 complete years which will not benefit you anyway.
Job in TCS will always be an open option for you whether you pursue M.Tech or not. But if you have decided to pursue M.Tech, then the next question arises which college you should prefer to pursue M.Tech?
IIIT Allahabad is an institute with excellent faculties and a good algorithmic coding culture which is quite popular on the campus. This can really help you during the interviews with product-based companies. From a financial point of view also, it will take you quite a long time in TCS to reach the pay. But if you pursue M.Tech, you will land into a product-based company. So, think about it, decide what is best for you and go for it.
