TD
Tezal Dahiya Posted On : May 10th, 2023

IPM course in IIM Indore has several Arts and Commerce students without math but your Admission is not limited by class 11–12 arts or math. The entrance Test covers some class 11 mathematical topics. As a non-math student in class 11–12, it will be challenging to keep up with the 3-year IPM syllabus, but if you have cleared the IPMAT test/exam then you should not have any problems during the course. You will have the below-mentioned courses in your curriculum;

  • Differential Calculus and Statistics in Term 1,
  • Probability and integral calculus in term 2,
  • Linear Algebra in term 3, and
  • Numerical analysis and Statistical method-2 in Term 4.

Your roommate, classmates, and professors know that you are not from a math background, so they'll help, and do peer learning. Just work harder.

Another significant thing is IPM also offers Philosophy, Sociology, Psychology, English, and Political Science. So, don’t worry much, and enjoy your journey. Hope it helps, All the best!

Considering my interest in Finance and a prior IT work experience of 2.5 years, what should be the preference for me among IIFT Delhi, NMIMS Mumbai, and new IIMs IIM Ranchi, Trichy?

AS

When it comes to financing roles, NMIMS is generally seen as being on par with or even better than IIFT. One advantage of NMIMS is its location in Mumbai, which can be beneficial for students seeking finance roles. A decent number of finance companies visit the campus during placements, offering a good range of opportunities for students. However, it's worth noting that the competition for these roles can be quite intense, especially for students with engineering backgrounds. This is because finance companies often have a tendency to shortlist more students with commerce backgrounds for interviews.

That being said, if you are able to clear one or two levels of the CFA or FRM exams, it can become easier to get shortlisted for finance roles at NMIMS. Overall, when it comes to financing roles, NMIMS is generally seen as being on par with IIFT and better than the new IIMs.

How can one prepare for board exams as well as the IPM exam conducted by IIM Indore?

SS
Shristi Singh Posted On : January 22nd, 2024
MBA from Indian Institute of Management Indore (2020)

Here are some tips to guide you for your IPM exam preparation alongside your board exam prep-

  1. It is absolutely not necessary to go for any specialized coaching for your IPM exam. It does not require any ‘special’ preparation. In fact, a lot more students clear the exam without going for any special coaching.
  2. Prepare well for your board exams. A good knowledge of important concepts will help you during the personal interview round, and also boost your confidence. Give special attention to Math.
  3. The aptitude test has a big chunk of questions on Mathematical ability (it does not include calculus). The question pattern isn’t definite. So practice your 12th level Math well and you’ll get through the written exam with much more ease.
  4. As for PI, read the newspaper well after your board exams. This will help improve your English on the side.
  5. Practice the entrance question papers from previous years. Those are available on the IIM Indore website.
  6. Instead of grabbing huge books on English and Mental Ability, just read a lot.
  7. Have some solid academic or extracurricular achievements to increase your selection chances, and give you an edge above others.

These are some tips that you can follow for smooth and worry-free preparation of your IPM Exam alongside your board exam.

Should I join IIM Indore this year or take another shot at the CAT?

RR

You have not mentioned your profile so it’s difficult to answer precisely. Let’s assume you are a male IT engineer with decent academics.

Your decision is solely based on your profile. For instance, if you were previously earning 12 LPA in your job and are content with it then you may go for a year drop. Or if you wish to convert to better colleges in this league such as IIM BLACK or XL or FMS, then keep in mind that the selection criteria of IIMs are very unpredictable.

The previous year, GEM at 99.3 was converted at IIM K easily. But this year the cut-off for shortlisting of IIM K was 99.8+ with good academics for GEM. Moreover, your decision depends on the branch you have converted. Compare the previous placement records to have a better knowledge of your choice. You should not negotiate with your course of interest.

Comparing IIM Indore’s program to IIM Rohtak, there is a simple conclusion- IIM Indore is better than IIM Rohtak in almost every aspect.

Similarly, IIM Indore's IPM course is better in every case scenario. This is because of

  • Older campus

  • Better connectivity with the industry
  • Better global image
  • The credibility of the course is far better
  • Better Alumni network
  • Better competition
  • Stronger brand name

Yes, the admission in IIM Indore is conducted in two ways - (a) Writing Ability Test (WAT) followed by the Personal Interview round (PI); (b) Final admission process.

  • To be eligible for shortlisting for the Writing Ability Test and the Personal Interview, you must meet the eligibility criteria.
  • Your profile will be scrutinized based on your CAT score which carries 20% of the weightage.
  • In addition, your score in your class 10th carries 36% while 12th marks have 40% weightage.
  • Moreover, 4% weightage is allotted to Female students for diversity in gender.

How do I differentiate between IIM Indore and IIM Kozhikode

RT
Raktim Tarafdar Posted On : June 20th, 2023

Both universities were founded around the same time (1996) and are in the same league in terms of placements, exposure, and alumni base, among other things.

Nonetheless, IIM Kozhikode has an advantage over IIM Indore for one reason only - Size of the batch

  • If we add the IPM batch, IIM Indore has a batch size of 650 students, whereas Kozhikode has a batch size of around 400 students.
  • A larger batch size allows you to interact with people from various backgrounds, but this might be a difficulty during placement season and other co-curricular activities.

During the placement season, student competition would be fierce. Assume a company has opted to hire only one student, and the competition at IIM Indore is 50% higher due to the larger batch size. So, in comparison to Indore, you have a better probability of getting into your dream firm in Kozhikode.

It is not just restricted to Placement season, but also to club and committee events. If you wish to join the placement committee or the Finance club, it will be more difficult to do so in Indore than in Kozhikode. Co-curricular activities are very beneficial during your final placement interview.

IIM Kozhikode has an advantage over IIM Indore because of just one essential element. Both IIM-B PGDM and ISB MBA are good programs. Your choice relies on your career goals and preferences. ISB offers a shorter, industry-focused program. IIM-B is highly academic and research-focused.

What are the WAT topics for IIM Indore and IPM Indore?

TJ
Tanistha Joshi Posted On : August 28th, 2021
B.Tech Bachelor of Technology in Computer Science and Engineering, SRM Institute of Science and Technology (2019)

One of my friends graduated from IIM Indore and here are some things about WAT that might be useful to you.

  • The WAT topics mostly depend on general awareness issues.
  • IIM Indore conducts WAT (Written Ability Test) for its entrance test to its five-year Integrated IPM program.
  • You also have to write an essay based on either a topic they will give you or based on an image.
  • The topics can be anything ranging from what is currently happening around the world or anything theoretical and your opinion about them.
  • In Picture Based Essays, you’ll be given a picture that you would have to observe carefully and then describe what you see.

My friend had given the IPM twice, so for IPM WAT 2018 he had the topic on “Violence over Women” and for IPM WAT 2019, he had the topic “Technology”, candidates had to write for or against the motion. Sticking to the topic and giving a valid argument would support your write-up.

How academically intense is the IPMAT IIM Indore?

DM
Debjani Modak Posted On : August 28th, 2021
Bachelor of Technology from College of Engineering, Pune (2024)

Well, getting into the IPM program of 5 years in IIM Indore is itself quite an intense feeling. But, believe me, every course has its own pros and cons. But, I can certainly say you won’t regret it if you are all clear to set out with IPMAT.

Here are the few demerits which are negligible before the numerous merits of the IPM program:

  • The course is quite expensive and it costs 26 Lakh, which might not be affordable by a lot.
  • The daily schedule at the IPM program is very complex.
  • It’s a 5 year programme and one should be very conscious and committed to the academics, any mistake in this regard could be counter back.
  • Adding to that the selection criteria of 120 students among 20,000 aspirants makes it very competitive.
  • You have to practice hard to excel in this area.

Though it sounds intense but it has its own worth and definitely after graduating you receive an opportunity in a top-notch company. After transitioning to a degree course, the demand for pursuing IPM has increased extensively.

Why did I get a call at 81 percentile from IIM Indore?

RK
Rahul Kamal Posted On : August 25th, 2021

One of my friends graduated from IIM Indore and having read online reviews of the alumni here are some facts that might answer your query.

It seems a bit difficult to get a call from IIM Indore at 81 percentile. But I am not sure and won't be able to make any comments till you don't provide more information like your past academics, undergraduate background, work experience, category, etc.

If you happen to be a student from the reserved category then yes, you may get a call with a percentile of 81. But this also depends on your marks scored in the 10th and 12th board exams as well.

Also, a piece of factual information that IIM Indore gives more weightage to the academic scores in the 10th and 12th boards exams.
