What are the chances that I convert my calls from SIBM Pune, SCMHRD or SIBM Bangalore? How is the GE PIWAT given when I have a 98.0456 percentile?

SK
Sabitha Krutarth Posted On : May 10th, 2023

It is difficult to predict your chances of converting your calls from SIBM Pune, SCMHRD, or SIBM Bangalore as apart from a good percentile in SNAP there are various factors that are taken into consideration during the selection process apart from the percentile in entrance exams. These factors include academic background, work experience (if any), performance in Group Exercise (GE), Personal Interview (PI), and Written Ability Test (WAT), among others.

Having a 98.0456 percentile is a good score and puts you in a competitive position for the admission process but that does not guarantee the final call as WAT weighted is important and big enough to ignore.

So, to increase your chances of converting your calls, you should prepare well for the GE, PI, and WAT rounds by improving your communication and presentation skills, staying updated with current affairs, practicing writing essays, and answering interview questions.

Is it worth doing an MBA from Indian B-schools like SCMHRD or JBIMS or will I always be inferior to those from top IIMs or XLRI?

Doing an MBA from top IIMs and XLRI have its advantages. These are the best management schools in the country and offer excellent career opportunities and exposure. But it doesn’t necessarily mean pursuing an MBA from JBIMS will not be worth the investment. It ranks right after IIM ABC, XLRI, and FMS. It has maintained a stellar placement record over the years. JBIMS placements 2022 concluded with an average CTC of INR 27.63 LPA. The return on investment is great.

SCMHRD isn’t as reputed as JBIMS. But it is also a good B-School with decent placement record. The average CTC for SCMHRD is around INR 16 LPA.

Why do people not consider SIBM/SCMHRD Pune at par with other prestigious MBA colleges despite the fact that they rank among top 20 of India?

Aparna Das Posted On : June 6th, 2023

Most of the top B-schools in the country select candidates on the basis of CAT and to an extent, XAT. Since the aim of all the students is to get into the old IIMs, so there are a lot of amazing candidates who only sit for the CAT. Since the only way to get into SIBM/ SCMHRD is through SNAP, there is a perception that the best candidates do not prefer to go into these institutions, which is not necessarily true but might explain the public perception. Also, with the introduction of a number of subpar colleges under the Symbiosis umbrella, the value and prestige of SIBM and SCMHRD have declined in the eyes of the general public.

SIBM and SCMHRD are amazing institutes, but the public might not consider them on par with other prestigious universities due to the above-mentioned reasons.

How was your SCMHRD BA interview experience?

BH
Bharath Harish Posted On : May 18th, 2023
studied at Symbiosis Institute of Business Management, Pune (2019)

My interview process started with registration and submission of the SNAP C form, followed by the written ability test (WAT). The technical WAT had questions related to probability, statistics, histogram, coefficient correlation ratio, and pseudo code. The WAT section had two topics, one related to 'business acumen dependent on data analytics,' and the other involving the creation of a story by connecting two given images.

After the WAT section, the interview process moved on to group discussion (GD) and group exercise (GE). The GD topic was whether technology would replace teachers in the future, and the GE task involved forming a political party with given Bollywood stars.

The personal interview (PI) consisted of questions related to my academic and professional background, technical skills in Java programming and SQL queries, conflict management skills, and problem-solving abilities. The interviewers also presented a hypothetical scenario where I had to suggest arguments to the CEO for hiring a Business Analyst despite the cost-cutting measures. Additionally, I was asked to draw a graph that compares revenue and vs financial success.

How far behind is SIBM, SCMHRD, MDI vis-a-vis XLRI/TISS HR?

TA

There is no scale to measure. But if we go by ranking and students' perspectives regarding these colleges. After XLRI/TISS HR, comes MDI followed by SIBM then SCMHRD based on NIRF ranking.

Colleges

NIRF Rank

XLRI

8

SIBM

17

MDI Gurgaon

13

Based on placements, XLRI is the best in HR placements. It also witnesses placements across the world. If you want to pursue a career in Social work and HR then TISS Mumbai is the best. TISS also offers MA programs and it does not offer MBA.

MDI Gurgaon and SCMHRD is also a better option to consider. They have a good alumni base and decent placements at XLRI and TISS.

What am I missing out on if I join SCMHRD and not SIBM? Also, in what ways is the former better than the latter?

AG
Akriti Gupta Posted On : April 29th, 2023

SIBM Pune, SCMHRD, NMIMS, XIMB, and IIMS belong to the same tier of business institutions. However, there are certain distinctions between SIBM P and SCMHRD.

SIBM Pune is a more established institution with a more extensive and influential Alumni network. It is the premier management institute of Symbiosis International University. School of Photography, Institute of Media and Communication, School of Culinary Arts, Institute of Telecom Management, Institute of Banking and Finance, and School of Sports Sciences share a much larger campus—consequently, a much greater degree of cross-disciplinary exposure.

SIBM has access to a more significant number of competitions than our sister institution.

They improved placement rates for all specializations, including HR. People are typically positioned quicker and with less difficulty than SCMHRD.

Several areas in which you stand to benefit from SCMHRD are the following.

  • HUL and PnG have not been recruited from SIBM for several years, whereas they recruit from SCMHRD. However, the annual number of recruits must be larger to impact overall placement statistics significantly.
  • The campus in Hinjewadi is closer to a commercial area with simple access to additional stores and eateries.
  • A larger HR cohort leads to increased peer-to-peer learning.

How do the new HR programs of IIM Ranchi, NMIMS, and XIMB measure up to the established ones of XLRI, TISS, MDI and SCMHRD?

AA
Apoorv Ashutosh Posted On : January 11th, 2023
Former PhD Candidate at Indian Institute of Management Lucknow (2017–2020)

The simple answer to your question is no, the new HR programs of IIM Ranchi, NMIMS, or XIMB are not at par with the established ones XLRI, TISS, MDI, and SCMHRD. The established programs especially that of XLRI are the epitome of HR programs. They cannot be compared to the new ones at any given level or parameter.

  • Faculty: The professors of XLRI are renowned throughout the industry for their competency. They specialize in almost every domain one can think of be it Law, Competency Modeling, Compensation, or Performance Management.
  • Peers: It’s the cream students who get the opportunity to get into a prestigious college like XLRI. You can see tough competition between the finest students at college. Every individual has a valuable opinion and stands to contradict others. Their thinking pattern is broad and given a case study, they look at all angles from accounting to finance to laws while proposing the solution. The situation at TISS is also quite similar.

Now one can say that the curriculum can be replicated and learned faculty can be sought to match the quality of the HR program at these institutes. But the truth is faculty and curriculum are the main but not the only factors that determine an institute's worth. Its own culture, ethics, and background have a lot to do with the programs it offers.

So one cannot match XLRIs programs no matter how much they try.

  1. SIBM Pune has the best finance program with CFA accreditation.
  1. SCMHRD has the best HR program. It is second to only XLRI.
  1. Marketing is good in both SIBM Pune and SCMHRD.
  1. SIIB offers specializations in International Business, Energy & Environment, and Agribusiness. The International Business course offered at SIIB is comparable to IIFT. The other two are unique courses having industry CSR relevance.
  1. SIMS, SSBF, SCIT, and SITM are also good choices that offer unique management courses. For Telecom Management, SITM is a wise choice.
  1. If you can go outside Pune, SIBM Bengaluru is also a good choice. It provides great profiles in the IT-ES sector.
  1. Also look out for SICSR. Their MBA (IT) program is among the most current and comprehensive programs. SICSR also has the legacy of being the first one to start an MBA in IT specialization.

These are the various choices according to the stream that you wish to go for. You can choose among them accordingly and go for the institution that best suits your future ambitions.
