Is it necessary to attend classes in Mtech from IET Lucknow?

SP
Shivaay Pandit Posted On : August 10th, 2021
Studied at Institute of Engineering and Technology, Lucknow

The best part about IET Lucknow is the freedom it offers to the students. The college does not intend to restrict students to only academics. There is no pressure for attendance. However, some faculties might give weightage to attendance. So, if you can balance the academics and extracurricular, you can negotiate with them. Never give a chance to your teachers to point down your mistakes.

Consider the below-mentioned points for this.

  • Decent grades and marks in the sessional tests can save you.
  • The faculties consider assignments too. So, make sure to submit your quality assignment adhering to all the instructions before deadlines. There is no need for more pages.
  • Be enthusiastic and noticeable in classes by raising questions or giving answers to the teachers. Also, respect your teachers.
  • Try to attend the lectures by the permanent faculties as such lectures are rare. There are only a few such faculties in the college. But they have vast experience and knowledge.
  • Some students fill the attendance by themselves as soon as the faculty leaves the register in the class. But it is risky, and there is a probability of getting caught.
  • Lab lectures are easy to skip. You can mark your attendance and leave the lab.

Overall, the classes are skippable in IET Lucknow if you have a decent image in front of faculties. Currently, compulsory attendance of 60% as per the rules of the new director is required, but 50% attendance will let you sit in exams.

Is IIIT Lucknow a good option for doing an M.Tech or not?

VS
Vipul Singh Posted On : March 18th, 2021
B.Tech from Indian Institute of Information Technology, Lucknow (2020)

The M.Tech program in Computer Science (CS) at IIIT Lucknow is worth considering if you cannot get into other similar institutions such as IIIT Hyderabad, IIIT Bangalore, IIIT Allahabad, NIT Warangal, NIT Trichy, and NIT Karnataka.

  • Though the M.Tech program started only in 2019, companies such as Google, Microsoft, Directi, LinkedIn, Codenation, etc. visit the campus for placements of B.Tech students. So if you are skilled enough, it does not really matter if you are a B.Tech or M.Tech student. The placement records of B.Tech graduates suggest that they are comparable to NIT Calicut, NIT Rourkela, and IIIT Allahabad graduates.
  • In fact, looking at the NIRF data of colleges such as IIIT Allahabad, it is clear that M.Tech students are more in demand in the industry due to lack of quality students along with their added research experience in the field.
  • The curriculum of the course is also very well designed, offering specializations in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence. These are the most demanding subjects in the industry currently and if you study well enough, securing a job should not be difficult.
  • As this is a new course, you will not get the alumni advantage, the first batch is yet to pass-out, you could still connect with your B.Tech alumni as well as alumni from IIIT Allahabad (both the colleges were on the same campus until very recently).
  • Alternatively, you could also hang out with your B.Tech peers and learn from them as well, because they have a very well-laid-out course structure along with a very competitive culture in coding.
  • You should also consider studying with the PhDs as the knowledge and in-depth research they conduct in areas such as Machine learning will eventually help you to get a competitive advantage.

So all in all, IIIT Lucknow is a very good option for doing an M.Tech which will sharpen your skills and prepare you for the journey ahead.

What is the difference between M.Tech (CSE) and M.Tech (AI) at IISc Bangalore?

Amanda Marie Jacob Posted On : July 14th, 2023

There are many points of difference between IISc MTech CSE and MTech AI. Some of them have been listed below

  • M.Tech CSE is the flagship M.Tech program from CSA whereas the M.Tech AI program is a new program that has been recently introduced by the EECS division.
  • There is a huge difference in the curriculum of both programs. Although both programs require 64 credits, the breakdown is different. For MTech CSE the department core requires a minimum of 24 credits comprising at least 8 credits each from Pool A, Pool B, and Pool C There is a project too. The remaining credits are for electives. The M.Tech AI course on the other hand has 19 credits from pool A subjects, 12 credits from pool B subjects, and 12 credits from electives. Additionally, there is a 21-credit project where one can work on interdisciplinary cutting-edge problems on AI.
  • M.Tech CSE admissions are done on the basis of GATE CS scores while the cut-off for M.Tech AI is decided by the applications from CS, EE, and ECE disciplines.

It's natural for a CSE B.Tech student who isn't certain of specializing in theory, systems, or AI, to go for an M.Tech (CSE). The curriculum is flexible and you can even choose electives or work on AI projects. But if you are certain o your inclination towards AI then M.Tech (AI) is an excellent choice.

How is an M.Tech from IET Lucknow?

AR
Amrita Raj Posted On : August 20th, 2021
B.Tech from Institute of Engineering and Technology, Lucknow (2020)

IET Lucknow is not a good option to pursue M.Tech. You will not be offered any good opportunities at this institute. However, if this is your only available choice, then you can go for it.

IET Lucknow will surely groom your personality as it offers a lot of opportunities for extracurricular activities. You can be a part of various clubs and societies. In terms of academics, there is no exposure and no technical knowledge is given by faculty members.

Although you will get a lot of time to learn new things on your own and gain the technical knowledge required for the industry. Placements are also not good and you have to apply off-campus.

Do not join IET Lucknow for M.Tech but if even if you do, make sure to prepare well for further competitive exams. You will receive a monthly stipend of 15,000 rupees and other necessary amenities.

How was your interview experience at Computational and Data Sciences CDS IISc Bangalore for Ph D and M Tech Research program?

Lives in Bangalore

I cleared the written test for M.Tech Research in CDS at IISc Bangalore. After that, I was scheduled for an interview with a three-member panel. It lasted for 50 minutes.

Upon arriving at the IISc Bangalore campus for the interview, we were allowed inside after 8 am. My degree certificate and Aadhar were checked before allotting me the room and panel.I had to wait for around 3 hours before my interview. My preferences were DREAM Lab, MARS Lab, and VCL Lab.The interviewers looked at the form that I had filled out, read all that was written to me, and proceeded to ask me some basic questions based on my responses. I mentioned having studied C++, data structures, and scheduling algorithms.

The first professor asked me a question about finding an element in an unsorted array. He kept asking me basic questions throughout this time. Another professor asked me a question about scheduling algorithms. He asked me to prove mathematically my assertion that SJF is optimal and that no other algorithm can give a better performance than it. The third professor asked me questions on system calls,  user/kernel mode, and whether the addition expression in C++ program also has some underlying system call.

Though I could not clear the interview, it was an enriching experience for me. It helped me gain more confidence and to look at things from a different perspective.

Which must one choose: M.Tech. from IIT Bombay or MBA from IIM Bangalore?

AB
Arun Balakrishnan Posted On : February 27th, 2023
Startup Enthusiast, Biker, Music Lover, Cricketer

An MTech from IIT Bombay and an MBA from IIM Bangalore are two very different options. While one focuses on technological aspects the other focuses on managerial aspects. So before even dwelling on the worth of the courses individually you should self-analyze your inclinations and choose one path you are sure about.

Jot down your short and long-term goals. What exactly are you willing to do in your life apart from earning money? Are you more inclined to the corporate world or are the technical elements that attract you more? Having clarity of goals and understanding of what you want from your life is the primary determining factor for choosing your college as well as course.

Objectively, both courses offer a plethora of job prospects and you will gain a lot by choosing any of the two. But making a wise decision here is most important. Choosing an MBA just because it has good career prospects despite having an interest in technology is deluding yourself. You cannot attain success unless you are sincerely passionate about the field you are pursuing.

IISC Bangalore introduced the M.Tech AI program in 2019. It is offered by the EECS division.

For the curriculum,  the basics of optimization, linear algebra, probability, data structure, and algorithms are covered during the first semester.

M.Tech in AI is different from M.Tech in CDS in terms of core courses. The electives offered in both programs are almost the same.

The IISc Bangalore tag will be very useful in case you go for your Ph.D. in India or abroad. But for that, you need to maintain a good GPA.

The 2021 placement highlights for M.Tech AI (both off-campus and on-campus) are as follows, this was the first M.Tech AI batch-

Particulars

M.Tech AI at IISc Bangalore

PPOs received by

4 students

M.Tech from Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore (2020)

Anyone who claims that AI is still a developing field and hasn’t made its mark yet hasn’t looked up the AI and Machine Learning courses offered by top foreign universities. These courses are well in demand and offer extensive knowledge in the field of AI.

As for the IISc Bangalore AI MTech program, although it's a new program, it’s fast gaining popularity and is becoming one of the most coveted courses offered by IISc Bangalore. It has a huge number of hardcore, softcore, and elective courses in related areas. There are both theoretical as well as practical hands-on courses.

I believe, in this AI-oriented era, the future will witness a huge change in this field and the course will become a huge success.

My sister is currently pursuing AI MTech in IISc Bangalore. She shared her courses taught in the first and second-semester

First semester

  • Linear algebra course that focuses on theory and related algorithms.
  • Postgraduate course on probability and stochastic processes.
  • Optimization course for constrained and unconstrained problems.
  • Data Structures and algorithms are mainly for non-CS people.

These are fundamental courses you will be studying before actually getting started with AI. In the second semester courses will be like

2nd semester

  • Machine Learning
  • Deep Learning
  • Computer Vision
  • Image Processing
  • Speech Processing

The courses of the consecutive semesters depend on the student and his/her project advisor.

My sister has huge expectations from this program and she claims that the program fulfilled all of them. As for your other question, not only an EE Engineer but also a CS or ECE engineer can do well in this program. AI is a multifaceted field and thus is suitable for people from diverse backgrounds.
