Can an average student perform good and bear study pressure at KMC, Manipal?
Yes, an average student can easily perform well and bear the study pressure at KMC Manipal. All you need is determination and clarity of goals. Even if you do face struggles, seek help from others and keep pushing yourself towards your goals.
KMC does not have many average students as KMC has an excellent crowd. In my friend's batch, many students had secured 5–10K in NEET UG and took KMC over the peripheral government colleges via AIQ. KMC Manipal offers top-notch education at par with academics of Government medical colleges like AIIMS D, JIPMER, MAMC, CMC, etc.
KMC is a private college and therefore has better infrastructure and equipment.
Lastly, I don't think NEET is the only way to assess whether a student is average, smart, or dumb.
How are the PG results of KMC Manipal, Mangalore students?
KMC students perform well in PG entrances. The PG result mainly depends upon individual hard work and MBBS training.
As a student of KMC Manipal, I can shed some light on my institute. The MBBS training offered by this college is really good. The faculty is top-notch, and classes are held regularly. You’ll be offered high clinical exposure.
Many of my seniors have cracked PG entrances right after internship or a year drop. They got into top colleges with the stream of their choice. KMC Manipal is especially a great choice if you plan to move abroad.
Some of the exam questions are based on the USMLE pattern. Also, the college holds seminars to guide students on USMLE preparation. This is why the majority USMLE selects are KMC Manipal alumni.
Thus, KMC is a good choice for your MBBS, and you’ll get ample facilities over here to ace your PG entrances.
Which is better overall, KMC Manipal or BMCRI Bangalore?
My knowledge is limited to BMCRI as my brother is a student of the same so I won’t be able to give you a comparison between BMC and KMC. Here are a few highlights of the college
- The student's performance isn't followed up personally by the faculty due to the huge batch size.
- Academics depend on how keen you are to learn and follow the faculty’s advice.
- The clinical exposure is better than any other college in the state.
- The infrastructure may not be at par with other government colleges but it’s well-equipped to handle the multitude of cases coming in each day.
- BMCRI Bangalore MBBS fees is as low as 70,200 (1st Year Fees)
- The crowd is refined and highly talented because there are no management seats
BMC focuses on the holistic development of the students so you can expect a fun-filled campus life.
Which college is better, CMC Ludhiana or KMC Manipal?
Both CMC Ludhiana and KMC Manipal are prestigious institutes well-known for their excellence in the medical field. However, you might want to consider the following points of differences while choosing one of these colleges
- Academics: CMC Ludhiana fares better in terms of quality of academics as it has a highly dedicated staff and the facilities are also top notch. KMC Manipal too is quite decent academically.
- Infrastructure: KMC Manipal has better infrastructure than CMC Ludhiana as it has well-maintained buildings and a lush green campus while CMC Ludhiana is situated amidst the hustle and bustle of the city.
- Location: This is a personal factor especially if you prefer staying close to home or not.
- Fees: CMC Ludhiana's first-year fees are around INR 6.6 Lakhs while KMC Manipal MBBS Fees for the first year are INR 17.8 Lakhs which is almost double that of CMC Ludhiana.
- Patient load: CMC has a good patient flow with more indoor and outdoor patients.
Overall, I feel both the colleges are unique in their own way and you won't regret joining either of these colleges.
What is the performance of students in NEET PG after the MBBS course in KMC, Manipal?
NEET PG is like any other entrance exam. So the UG college doesn’t really matter when giving your PG entrance.
But it is true that your clinical postings have a bearing on the things you remember when reading your preparation material. Your exposure to clinical signs, diagnosis, radiological findings, and surgical procedures makes you remember things. A dedicated faculty, motivated peers, and hardworking seniors will have a huge impact on you. Good seniors offer tips and tricks on cracking entrance exams.
Coming to KMC Manipal, it is a premiere institute. It is at par with most government medical colleges. The alumni of this college can vouch for its good academics and campus life.
You’ll have to prepare for your PG with efficiency and diligence. Your UG college won’t have much of a role in this regard. KMC Manipal is a good choice for an MBBS, and it will offer you all the facilities and exposure.
What are the hostel rules and timings at KMC Manipal?
KMC Manipal has a total of 3 hostels out of which one is for first years while two are for remaining students. Only one of these hostels has an air conditioning facility.
- Nehru-A boys hostel: It's considered to be the best hostel of KMC although it has no AC and accommodates on 1st yrs. There are MBBS, BDS, Pharma, and students of Allied health sciences in this hostel. The rooms of this hostel are double occupancy. Other facilities include an internal canteen, 2 badminton Courts and a library. Curfew rules are imposed on first-year students. For the first month, the time at night was 9:30. For the second month, it was 10:30., then 11:30, and at last, it will remain 12am throughout.
- Nehru-B, C: It’s only for M.B.B.S. students from the second year and this too has no AC facility. The curfew timings are also the same as 12 a.m.
- Amartya Sen Hostel: It's the only AC hostel for students of all courses. The curfew timings are the same as others. Additionally, this hostel has LAN access and WiFi, compared to only wifi of other hostels.
Every hostel has strict curfew timings and students are expected to abide by them. There are room cleaning services throughout the day and water coolers everywhere.
Which academic books do students of MBBS at KMC Manipal and Mangalore use?
These are the books I and my peers used as KMC Mangalore MBBS students-
For first year-
- Anatomy : Gray’s (Recommended); B.D. Chaurasia; Netter’s Atlas (must have).
- Physiology : Guyton (Recommended); A.K.Jain (not as good as Guyton); Manipal Manual of Physiology (only to pass, last resort).
- Biochemistry : Satyanarayan; Beena Shetty (only to pass, last resort).
- Embryology : Inderbir Singh
- Neuroanatomy : Snell (For Neuroanat).
For second year-
- Pathology: Robbin’s (This is the only book you need for this subject).
- Microbiology: Ananthanarayan(Fungus, Virus and Immunology is really good).
- Pharmacology : Tripathi (Massive, but required for entrance); Shanbag (only to pass).
- Forensic Medicine and Toxicology : Pillai (Really good book on this subject).
For third year-
- Community Medicine : Park
- Ophthalmology: Khurana (Last minute study)
- ENT : Dhingra
For fourth year:
- Medicine : Davidson (MUST HAVE, MUST READ); Harrison; Archit Sir (this book is really helpful). For Practical - Macleod’s. Some students use Harrison or Arup Kumar Kunda (this book helps with probable viva questions).
- Surgery : Bailey (The BIBLE of Surgery); SRB. Some students use Clinical Pearls of Surgery
- OBG : Dutta ( Always for Obstetrics); Sheila
- Gyn - Shaws( Recommended)
- Pediatrics : Ghai and class notes
- Orthopedics : Maheshwari.

Which college should I prefer: KMC, Manipal or HIMS, Dehradun for MBBS?
Without any second thoughts, choose KMC Manipal over HIMS Dehradun. Joining a private college is not considered very wise but it’s not in the case of KMC because
- Its crowd quality is exceptionally good. It's an old college.
- It’s one of the oldest private medical colleges and most Govt Colleges so it has come to establish a reputation of its own.
- It’s the only private medical college that has churned out so many generations of successful doctors.
- It offers excellent medical education and its fees are comparatively less than other private colleges.
- The institute boasts of a well-equipped sports complex called MARENA.
- An amazing campus life with enough exposure to extracurricular activities.
- The Manipal campus is extremely beautiful and offers a good academic ambiance.
Overall, the opportunities this college has to offer make it an excellent choice.
What is the cut-off mark for an MBBS in Manipal University?
Manipal University conducts its own entrance exam called the Manipal Entrance Test (MET) for admission to its MBBS program. The cutoff marks for admission to MBBS in Manipal University through MET vary each year based on factors such as the difficulty level of the exam, the number of candidates appearing for the exam, and the number of available seats.
However, to give you an idea of the expected cutoff marks, for the 2021-22 academic year, the minimum cutoff score for MBBS through MET was 147 out of 800 marks for the general category students. However, it is important to note that this cutoff mark is subject to change each year based on the aforementioned factors.
Additionally, it is important to note that Manipal University also considers other factors besides the MET score for admission to its MBBS programs, such as the candidate's academic performance in their 10+2 or equivalent exam, extracurricular activities, and work experience. So, even if you meet the cutoff score, admission to the program is not guaranteed and will depend on your overall profile.
