Which B School should I join amongst: IIM Udaipur, NMIMS or IIM Trichy?
Recommendations on joining an IIM:
For individuals who come from top tier engineering colleges (such as IITs or BITs) and have a salary of more than INR 10 lakh per year in the tech sector:
- It is not advisable to join any new IIMs unless you are looking to change your domain or are in a particularly difficult situation.
- Do not expect to gain a lot of knowledge or make friends with similar backgrounds at new IIMs, as the student body tends to have mediocre backgrounds and may not be well-informed about industry trends.
- Do not join a new IIM based on the media relations people who promote the institute on Quora, as they may not understand your level or expectations.
For individuals who are not from top colleges and have a salary of less than INR 5-6 lakh per year:
- It may be beneficial to join a new IIM, as it could potentially improve your situation.
- It is generally a good idea to join a new IIM without hesitation, as it may have a significant impact on your life.
For individuals who come from top tier engineering colleges and have made poor decisions in their lives:
- It may be worth considering attending a new IIM if you are willing to endure two years of academic study in order to improve your career prospects.
For entrepreneurs or aspiring entrepreneurs:
- Consider the return on investment before committing to a new IIM. It may not be worth incurring a debt of INR 16 lakh and spending two years with mediocre peers if it is not likely to lead to a good job and a successful career. It is important to carefully weigh the potential benefits and drawbacks before making a decision.
How is life in IIM Trichy?
IIM Tiruchirappalli (IIM Trichy) is a prestigious business school in India known for its rigorous academic schedule and focus on all-around development of students. The day at IIM Trichy begins early in the morning and can stretch late into the night, a schedule that students refer to as "the marathon run." In addition to their academic coursework, students at IIM Trichy are expected to stay current with global events and are encouraged to participate in extracurricular activities and student committees. - You have a good past academic record. IIMs lay great weight on past academics and it is something that cannot be changed even after getting 100 percentile in CAT.
- If you are confident that you can prepare for your CAT alongside working at Infosys. That company is said to have an enormous workload so you need to be sure that you can prepare for CAT efficiently simultaneously.
- If you are targeting older IIMs like A,B,C,K,L
If your situation does not involve any of the three cases then going for IIM Trichy is a wise decision. It’s a second-generation IIM and older than the newly established IIMs. Moreover, you will still get the IIM tag, and chances are that by the time you pass out from the institute, it has gained more reputation.
How good is PGPBM course (provided by IIM Trichy) at Chennai Center?
The worth of a certain program depends on what you want to achieve after completing it. In case you want to just ameliorate your knowledge and skills, this course is indeed the finest option. But if you are pursuing it to receive a high-paying package, then your approach is wrong. Yes, it will open doors for better job prospects but you cannot directly grab a high-paying job right off the bat.

Before I end my answer I will ask you to keep 2 points in mind. Firstly, this program is extremely demanding and you should not take it just as a side hustle. It needs complete involvement and determination on your part.
Secondly, no placement opportunities are offered upon completion of this program so you shouldn’t rely on the placement committee.
Why is the waitlist movement of IIM Trichy slow?
There are multiple reasons that cause the waitlist movement of IIM Trichy to slow down. Some include

- The waitlist commitment fee ensures only interested candidates stay in the waitlist.
- Slower waitlist movement of older IIMs. This is because the Waitlist movement of IIM Trichy or that of any second-generation IIM depends on the waitlist movement of the top IIMs like A,B, l,C, K,L,I. Which IIM is better: IIM Shillong, IIM Udaipur, or IIM Trichy?
I don’t see why people keep comparing the older IIMs to newer ones. No matter how good a new IIM is doing, it can never compare to an older established IIM. The same is the case here. IIM Trichy and IIM Udaipur are indeed growing at an excellent rate, but IIM Shillong still is the winner of the race. This is because of its early establishment and being a member of the top IIMs family BLACKIS. That in itself is an accomplishment that the new IIMs have failed to achieve.
IIM Shillong is the 7th IIM and is among the top B Schools in India. Ever since its establishment, it has been growing at a tremendous pace and its placements are a testament to that. The brand value it enjoys because of being a part of BLACKIS is much more than any new IIM. This brand value helps you in the long run.
Which would be a better choice, IIM Raipur or IIM Trichy?
I think firstly you need to change your mindset. Rather than pondering on which college is better, ponder on which college is better for you. Analyzing your situation this way will enable you to make a wiser decision. This is because only you truly know what you want from your MBA degree, and that is the sole basis for deciding your choice of college.
Now identifying your own interests and preferences might be a tricky task. I have some tips that might help you know your forte.
- Use the research tools of today’s world and study different colleges
- Try to find what you want to achieve after completing your MBA
- If you have decided on a certain domain, go through the alumni profiles of that specific domain. Check the same for various B Schools analyzing which B School has the maximum percentage of alumni in that domain.
- Study the culture of various B Schools you are choosing from
- Look for location advantages and accessibility
Checking all these aspects might help you come up with a healthy decision. Don’t be hasty to choose a B School as this decision will affect your career.
Is IIM Trichy better compared to IIM Indore?
New IIMs are being projected as amazing institutes when the truth is far different. The media is relaying false information for the sake of publicity.
So I will personally recommend the following not to join any new IIMs at any cost.
- For people who come from Top Tier engineering colleges (IITs/ BITs etc) and have a salary of more than 10 lakhs per annum in the tech space
- For Entrepreneurs or aspiring Entrepreneurs
I will recommend the following to join any IIM
- For people who are not from a Top College and have a salary of less than 5–6 lakh per annum
- For people who come from Top Tier (T1) Engineering colleges and have ruined their graduation
These recommendations are based on the expectations of many. But please don’t consider joining the new IIMs unless it’s the last option you have.
Should I go for IIM Trichy or try again next year for a better IIM?
The answer to this question depends directly on you and your profile.
You should forgo your offer at IIM Trichy if
- You have above average past academic background
- If you are confident that you can work harder and score better in CAT
- If you are a fresher and want to gain experience before joining
You should go for Trichy if
- Your past academic performance is below average
- You are not motivated enough or confident in scoring better in the CAT
