How are the hostel facilities for girls at KGMU?
The hostel facilities for girls at KGMU are one of the best in UP. In the first year, the girls are allotted the VL Hall. Recently, a New PG girls hostel has been opened It's a 6-storey building equipped with modern infrastructure. Here are a few pics of the girls' hostel facilities at KGMU

What is the 2-year bond at KGMU?
The UP State government has imposed a compulsory 2-year rural service bond under which the students pursuing MBBS, MD, MS, BDS, MDS, DM, and McH courses from government medical colleges of UP have to work in rural health centers for 2 years after completing their MBBS. To spare yourself from this bond you should
- Get selected for a higher course right after completing your UG course. For example, right after completing MBBS, get selected in MD on the first attempt. Your rural posting is then delayed, not canceled.
- The next way is to pay the entire bond amount, which is 10 lakh for MBBS, 40 lakh for MD, and 1 crore for DM.

Is it worth leaving KGMU seat for AMU seat of an MBBS taking in consideration the UP bond and internal PG reservation?
You are right in considering the UP bond and internal PG reservation while making your choice.
- Internal Reservation- JNMC offers 50% internal PG quota, which is completely free of caste based reservation. This is beneficial if you plan to pursue PG after your graduation. Also, you’ll have better chances of getting clinical seats here at around 23k AIR.
- Rural Bond- Unlike KGMU, JNMC doesn’t come under the two year rural bond. This is a big relief in itself.
- Location- Location wise though, Lucknow is far more developed than Aligarh.
You may choose JNMC (AMU) over any of these top colleges of UP- KGMU, RMLIMS, GSVM, MLN and LLRM. The reason being, as already mentioned by you.
Why have you not opted for MAMC KGMC UCMS VMMC through the NEET instead opted for AIIMS Bhopal?
People opt for AIIMS Bhopal over medical colleges like MAMC, KGMC, UCMS, and VMMC because of their personal preferences and have no grudge against these colleges. The two main reasons why someone would choose AIIMS are because of the AIIMS tag and their readiness to work hard for PG entrance exams.
Academically, all the aforementioned colleges are at the same level even in terms of infrastructure, facilities, and opportunities. Honestly, an MBBS from most medical colleges is similar with little changes. Most colleges provide a similar experience and it’s in PG that the college actually matters. Someone has rightly said that many average colleges produce great doctors while some great colleges produce average doctors. So yes, the institute matters but not to the extent that your career is hampered in any way.
Always remember Mediocre colleges can produce excellent doctors and excellent colleges can produce mediocre doctors. It’s the decision you make and the skills you acquire that make you a successful doctor and not the institute.
What is the dress code for girls at KGMU?
MBBS students at KGMU don’t have a uniform.
Girls have to wear a white full sleeves apron. First year girl students are required to wear a lengthier apron with 6 buttons. Others wear a normal lower waist length apron with the monogram of King George's Medical University.
Though it isn’t a rule, girls wear ethnic kurtis paired with salwar/leggings. It is what the students prefer to wear. This gives a more professional and decent appearance.
This is all about the dress code for MBBS students (girls) at KGMU.
Which is better, AIIMS Jodhpur or KGMU Lucknow?
KGMU has always been a very attractive option for medical aspirants.
It has a good infrastructure and reputation. It is considered as the best medical college in UP. I don’t have much idea about AIIMS Jodhpur, but it is considered the best after Delhi. Personally though, I consider AIIMS Rishikesh a better choice due to its pleasant location.
Recently, the UP government has passed a compulsory bond for UGs and PGs. It is a compulsory 2 years rural posting bond. This is a huge drawback in choosing KGMU Lucknow. The rural posting will be a difficult time, and you won’t learn much from it. There are safety concerns as well.
For your MBBS, you should choose between the two based on personal preference. But I would recommend you go for AIIMS Jodhpur.
In KGMU Lucknow, do the local students of Lucknow get a hostel room?
From what I heard, everyone who applies early during the admissions process gets a hostel room at KGMU irrespective of the fact if you are a local or not. Sometimes students who aren’t allotted room initially, get one after a month, after the backlog of applications is cleared. So here are a few tips to get a hostel room easily at KGMU Lucknow
- Apply early by paying 6000/- as yearly room charges
- Make sure to make a good friend in the admission room so you can apply for a room together.
- Make sure you are a regular hosteller who follows all the rules at least for the first six months.

Why did you choose KGMU over IMS BHU and AIIMS Rishikesh?
My friend got selected in all the 3 institutes; KGMU, IMS BHU, and AIIMS Rishikesh but chose KGMU as her first preference. She had no personal grudge against AIIMS Rishikesh but there were quite a few reasons why she did not choose IMS BHU
- My friend was from Varanasi and she did not want to be distracted by her family and so to cut off all distractions, she refused to continue her studies there.
- There are many flaws with the institute that go undiscovered y many but being from the same city, she did have an idea.
- She was eager to experience a life beyond her home city and experience different cultures.
However, her decision of choosing one over the other was solely influenced by her personal inclinations. She did not find any major differences except the rural service bond which she was ready to sacrifice. She did not give much thought to AIIMS Rishikesh as it was a new institute at that time although it has grown exponentially over the years so you can give it preference too.
Ultimately, there is no major difference in each of these institutes academically and it is all based on your personal indications.
In spite of its lower ranking, why has VMMC been occupied first compared to KGMU?
VMMC attracts a major crowd of NEET toppers. It is the most chosen college after MAMC. There are several reasons why many people choose VMMC over KGMU.
Mandatory rural service is the biggest disadvantage of KGMU. Those planning for a PG/superspeciality especially find this service period unnecessary and time-consuming. Moreover, VMMC is located in Delhi. This makes it more favorable. Though I personally feel Lucknow offers almost every facility. Internal PG reservation also works in the favor of VMMC.
KGMU is ranked much higher than VMMC. The education at KGMU is much better too. Despite this, VMMC is preferred because of the above reasons.
What are some do's and don'TS for first year students at KGMU?
Here are some necessary dos and don'ts the first-year students at KGMU must follow to ensure a smooth college life
Do’s
- Maintain good relations with seniors; they will be your saviors later.
- Don’t harbor any Ill feelings towards anyone you never know when someone will be of help.
- Borrow Cunningham from seniors rather than buying it.
- Participate actively in college events and gain experience.
- Pursue some kind of passion or hobby be it playing guitar, swimming, or learning a new language, etc
- Have good bonds with residents.
Don’ts
- Don't bluff in front of your seniors or teachers. It’s better to have a low profile initially.
- You will meet many people doing things you don’t approve of, don’t judge them unnecessarily.
- Don't drive recklessly.
- Don't get too involved in politics.
- Explore the city and hang out with your friends but not at the expense of your studies.
