Honestly, this is not even a comparison. VIT (any campus) is way better than Heritage Institute of Technology. Actually, Heritage Institute of Technology is not even the best college in the Kolkata region. It is the Institute of Engineering and Management (IEM).

Heritage Institute of Technology is obviously cheaper than VIT to study and also closer to your home if you are from the eastern region of India. You will get a job after graduating with a starting salary of around INR 3.5 lakhs per annum. If you have financial constraints and you are ok with this kind of starting salary then Heritage Institute of Technology will not disappoint you.

However, if you are well enough to pay for the fee of VIT, then in no way you should even think of Heritage Institute of Technology. The environment you will get there are obviously the placements of VIT are way better than Heritage Institute of Technology to even consider them for comparison.

VIT is an ABET-certified institution that is acclaimed by only a few universities and this itself is a big achievement. But now the situation is not so good and VIT is slowly losing its name and reputation in the industry. 

With their current system of conducting exams and a new system of counseling, the quality of its students is drastically decreasing. They are counseling students who are still preparing for JEE Advanced and forcing them to pay even before the results are out. 

Due to which most students withdraw their names and this creates a large number of vacancies and they are not allotted on the basis of merit. 

Also, the placements of NITs and BITS are excellent compared to VIT and the average packages offered to the students of these colleges are much better than the packages offered to the students of VIT. 

VIT Vellore is considered one of the best technical universities in India. It has a student population of 24000 students. It is ranked 28 overall and 15 for BTech by NIRF 2020.

Sardar Patel College of Engineering (SPCE) is the 5th oldest engineering college in India. It is ranked 201 among top BTech colleges by NIRF 2020 Rankings. It is affiliated to the University of Mumbai.

• With a campus area of 250 acres, the institute has 23 hostels.
• Their library consists of 2,21,118 books and 13344 e-journals.
• Their student strength is 24000.
• They provide all the necessary facilities to the students.

SPCE

• The SPCE college has a Central Library with a collection of over 45,000 books, 9000 e-books and national and international journals. 
• They have a Sports Club called SPIKE.
• The campus is wifi enabled. 
• They have a reputation of producing high quality engineers and also helps them to achieve their desirable employment.
• They offer scholarships to eligible candidates like Tata Trust Scholarship, Ratan Tata Scholarship and Pragati Scholarship.

VIT Vellore is definitely a well reputed and popular institution among both students and teachers. It will be a better option than SPCE due to its placement record, generous salary packages and the participation of the most prestigious companies. VIT Vellore will be a better choice than SPCE for your career ahead.

NIRF has ranked NIT Hamirpur #151 out of 200 (in India) for the year 2020 and ranked #98th out of 300 for B.Tech. On the other hand, VIT Vellore was ranked #15th out of 300 for B.Tech courses by NIRF rankings. Now let’s take a look at some other factors.

NIT Hamirpur:

• Sports facilities are provided to the students.
• Well stocked library having 2 buildings.
• 1gbps internet connectivity is provided to the students.

VIT Vellore:

• Auditorium, conference facilities, sports facilities, canteen, smart classrooms, hostels, rainwater harvesting system, solar panels, etc.

• NIT Hamirpur: B.Tech in 7 streams, MBA in 4 streams, M.Tech in 20 streams, MSc. in 3 streams, B.Arch and M.Arch in 1 stream, Ph.D. in 19 streams, and B.Tech + M.Tech in 2 streams.
• VIT Vellore: B.Tech in 18 streams, BCA in 1 stream, MCA in 1 stream, B.Sc in 1 stream, and M.Sc in 7 streams.

Faculty

NIT Hamirpur:

• Most of the faculties in NIT Hamirpur have completed their Ph.D. course as compared to MIT Manipal.
• Faculty at NIT are very well educated and have completed a Ph.D.

VIT Vellore: The faculties are good and approachable.

Placements

NIT Hamirpur:

• 86% was the placement rate for the last year’s session.
• The highest package was offered to a CSE student of INR 12 LPA.
• The average package offered to the students was INR 6.78 LPA.

VIT Vellore:

• Microsoft Company offered the highest package of about INR 41.60 LPA.
• The average package was INR 6.05 LPA.
• In the year 2020, 7771 offers were given to the students.
• 713 companies visited the campus.
• Some of the companies that offered the highest number of offers are Wipro (278 offers), TCS (244), Intel (151), and Virtusa ( 120).

A comparison can be made on the above information and the students can take their own decision.

The CSE department is a great department to study in VIT. Students are open to a lot of facilities and learning resources. The teaching staff is helpful as well. 

• The CSE department of VIT ranks right after top IITs, IIIT Hyderabad, BITS Pilani, and the top NITs. The department is well-reputed in the industry.
• VIT has a great research culture. The course curriculum is industry-oriented. 
• The coding culture at VIT is thriving. CSE students from the institute do great in GSoC, ACM ICPS, and other competitions. 
• There’s a great startup ecosystem on campus at VIT. Many people are doing great things in Machine learning and Artificial Intelligence. 
• You do not need to worry much about placement if you have joined VIT. In the 2021 placement drive, the highest CTC offered was 75 LPA. 

So, choosing VIT for your CSE degree will definitely be worth it. 

Among the above two options, IIIT Pune is the better choice, without doubt, considering several reasons such as fee structure, overcrowding, and the IIIT tag. One of my friends goes there, so I know a bit about the institute.

Key Highlights: (Winning Institute - IIIT Pune)

• There is overcrowding at VIT Vellore, with almost 2300 students enrolled at CSE only in several categories. There is huge competition in VIT due to the number of students sitting in placement altogether. On the other hand, IIIT Pune has even fewer than 100 students in CSE, which is realistic and sensible for students to compete with each other.
• In India, the tag of a government institute has its own value, which is a bitter truth in our country too. Along with that, the IIIT tag always has its own demand for placement in companies and higher opportunities.
• The fee for IIIT Pune is always lesser than that of VIT Vellore, irrespective of the type of hostel chosen at VIT.

There are students who have joined VIT, left the institute due to overcrowding, and went to some other institute. Considering all the above factors, IIIT Pune is a definite choice.
