Yes, spending around 15-16 lakhs for an MBA from IIM Lucknow is worth the investment. It has a good brand value and consistently ranks among the top B-Schools in the country.

  • IIM Lucknow placements have been great over the years. According to the placement highlights of 2022 the average CTC received by the students was INR 30 LPA. As the course fee is INR 19.20 Lakhs, the ROI is pretty good.
  • IIM Lucknow has an excellent faculty base.
  • It follows a curriculum that incorporates the latest industry trends.

Other than these, the peer learning opportunities, exposure offered and the well-developed alumni base make IIM Lucknow a good option for an MBA.

Which is better between SPJIMR Finance and IIM Lucknow? Why is SP Jain always compared to IIM Indore, Kozhikode but not IIM Lucknow?

SL
Saija Luthra Posted On : January 24th, 2023
Lived in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India

SPJIMR is superior to IIM Lucknow. Of course, IIM Lucknow is a larger and more well-known brand, but the program and course structure at SPJIMR is excellent. They have an updated curriculum that is in line with industry demands.

The small batch size is a significant advantage at SPJIMR. The student-teacher ratio is favorable, and interaction between the two is required. They have ethics-based learning, a rural internship program with an NGO, and a 3-week course for the entire batch at top business schools in the United States. All in all, it is a well-designed course. Because of the Batch size advantage, the average placements are also better. After all, placements are important. But it all comes down to personal preference. You could make a reference to a larger brand. Non-MBAs/aspirants may be unaware of the opportunities available at SP Jain. However, you can rest assured that your MBA journey at SPJIMR will be fruitful.

Which one should I choose between IIML-ABM and IIM Shillong PGP?

RT
Rima Tandon Posted On : February 24th, 2021
PGP from Indian Institute of Management Lucknow (2019)

There are almost the same given opportunities in both the institutes during summer, Laterals and Final placements. Well, there are two things you need to focus upon:

A few selected firms would not accept ABM students for the process (read Top 3 Consulting and Investment Banks and a certain Indian FMCG firm).

You will have to do ABM courses in your 2nd year with an option to take 2-3 electives, whereas in PGP you will be provided almost 15 electives.

Some facts regarding both institutes so that you can make better choices out of them.

IIM Shillong

If you want to do Marketing or General Management or end up in consultancy, then IIM L ABM is a good course because ABM 2nd year courses are nothing but Marketing, and so you don't miss out on anything compared to a PGP student. But go for IIM L ABM if you want to seek financing or operations.

I have got admission from IIM Lucknow and I am expecting to convert from FMS Delhi. I am aware of the ROI and average salaries. Which one should I choose? What are campus life and job offers like?

You should definitely attend IIM Lucknow rather than FMS Delhi. IIM is a brand, a distinguishing mark that will stay with you for the rest of your life. You never give up the IIM tag for FMS, no matter how much it costs.

The FMS campus has a dingy canteen the size of a bungalow, women dressed in glittery clothing roaming around, and plenty of heat and dust. There are also no hostels. You must take a PG if you go there. Food will be provided by the PG and nearby vendors.

In terms of finances, IIML fees are not comparable to Harvard fees. If you have given money to coaching institutes, you can certainly afford IIML. You may need to take out a loan, but you can certainly afford it.

Anyway, back to culture and way of life. In comparison to FMS, IIMs are king-size. Acres of land, well-kept cultivated greenery, a clean campus, and tasty mess food. Any IIM mess is better than most engineering colleges' mess, and Lucknow's Mess is delicious. The sports complex includes a large swimming pool, Jacuzzi, steam bath, large courts, and other amenities. Every two months, there will be massive student festivals where you can interact with students from other IIMs. You'll get a free membership to a nearby club where you can wine and dine. The student exchange program with Europe at IIM Lucknow is fantastic. You have the opportunity to study alongside international students and make friends from all over the world.

During the IIM Lucknow summer placements for the 2022-24 batch, 570 job offers were made and over 185 recruiters visited the campus. Aside from that, the highest and average stipends offered during summer placements at IIM Lucknow for the 2022-24 batch were INR 3.5 lakh per month and INR 1.41 lakh per month, respectively.

Why is IIM Lucknow reputed to have the most rigorous MBA programme in India?

NS
Nidhi Sinha Posted On : May 5th, 2022
studied at Indian Institute of Management Lucknow

IIM Lucknow MBA is considered one of the most rigorous MBA programs in the country for the following reasons.

  • IIM L has a minimum 80% attendance rule for each subject.
  • The coursework is pretty demanding and you will have to study hard, from your very first day at the campus.
  • Each subject has mid-term, end-term, presentations, quizzes, assignments, projects, etc. On average there are 1o deliverables for each subject.
  • If you are a part of any committee or Council, you will have more commitment. However, being a part of committees like Manfest-Varchasva can be quite rewarding.
  • Other than these regular activities, you will have to prep for placements, work on your CV, and attend workshops and guest lectures.

While on campus, you will hardly have any time left for anything other than academics.

What is it like to study in IIM Lucknow?

HS
Harpreet Saini Posted On : February 3rd, 2021
MBA from Indian Institute of Management Lucknow (2021)

Indian Institute of Management Lucknow is a government established business school located in Uttar Pradesh. As the fourth business school after IIM Ahmedabad, IIM Bangalore, and IIM Calcutta, IIM Lucknow is an amazing institute. However, it has been affected by bad politics. But it is still a wonderful college if one knows how to deal with politics along with academics.

It is a well-known fact that people pursue MBA in order to get good placements. Thus, the main aim of students in these colleges is jobs and they are not interested in academics. As a result, professors of the institute are not interested in making them learn.

  • Faculty: The faculty at IIM Lucknow is mediocre. Since everyone is concerned about placements, very few students care about faculty or studies.
  • Ranking: The institute is one of the most renowned management colleges in the country. It definitely comes under the top 6 management colleges, if not under the top 5.
  • Placements: IIM Lucknow has average placements. The highest package for the batch of 2019 was around 16-17 LPA. Which places IIM Lucknow behind at least 15 B-Schools in terms of placement.
  • Placement cell: The placement cell lacks proper management. Which results in poor placement. Many students also complain about discrimination, biased decision, politics of the placement cell.
  • Alumni: The alumni network of the institute is not that strong. Very few alumni visit the campus or the alumni meet.
  • Gender Diversity: The gender diversity at the campus is good.
  • Societies and committees: Some are work-oriented whereas others just exist. Almost every student joins these groups to add additional points to their CV which will help them in placements.
  • Exchange semester: IIM Lucknow has the provision of exchange semester with universities abroad. However, the colleges that have tie-ups with IIM Lucknow for such provisions are not that well-known.

IIM Lucknow can be rated 2 out of 5 on an average. The rating may vary depending upon individual experience. You can secure decent internship offers and make good friends at the campus.

How's the placement at IIM Lucknow?

GJ
Gauri Jaiswal Posted On : February 2nd, 2021
Studied in IIM Lucknow, (2020)

Well, the placements procedure in IIM Lucknow (IIM-L) is really good and has maintained a decent record throughout the years. The 2020 batch witnessed more than 140 recruiters making 447 job offers to almost 443 students.

One of my friends, studied in IIM Lucknow, has given me an idea regarding this institute's placement process. He told me that around 100 students from this institute were unplaced in the year 2019, even after the renowned company TCS has recruited. Though the numbers have changed drastically in 2020.

However, the lack of transparency in this institute's placement process is the main cause, why IIM-L is sometimes considered weaker than the other IIMs.

Recruiting Companies

Accenture, Deloitte, American Express, Asian Paints, etc.

You have to make sure that you can end up in the line of the first 150 students, then you can confidently expect recruitment from a popular company.

The average salary offered is quite lower than the salary offered by IIM Indore and IIM Kozhikode.

Thereby, it can be concluded that the student should always be focused on the target to get placement by hook or by crook, although favouritism is always there. Infact, this will help you to be prepared for working in the real corporate world. So, the students should be ready to always excel in their educational performance to secure the best placement.

Is it worth it to do the remote IIM Lucknow's summer internship?

SB
Sonali Bhagat Posted On : February 3rd, 2021
Studied at Indian Institute of Management, Lucknow

Remote Summer internship from IIM Lucknow is something that actually excites and amazes you, but if you’re planning to pursue it just because of the IIM tag on it, then you need to wait and read the reviews and suggestions provided by students.

A friend of mine has successfully completed it and suggested not to go for it due to some specific reasons. First of all, it is not useful as there are about 70-80 students doing the same remote internship. No personal attention is given to students actually in need.

In the internship program, you have to buy recommended books and a suggested Udemy course as well. Buying a book is enough though it contains all the information and study material you actually need as the same book is used in management courses.

Furthermore, the only good thing about this internship is the online classes and guidance provided by Prof. Sameer Mathur who is one of the best and experienced professors. You can take advantage of his experience and learn new things with simple examples and scenarios. But you need to complete all your assignments and work on your own as the assignments are given on a regular basis including sundays as well. If you really want to complete this internship program then forget about holidays. After successfully completing the internship you’ll get a certificate which will get delivered on your postal address.

The internship program is open to all and anyone can join the program without any prior skill test which somehow decreases the credibility of this internship program. That’s why it is suggested that if your purpose is to learn only and not the certificate then you can simply buy the recommended books and gain knowledge on your own without spending the extra money on suggested online courses.

Should I choose IIM lucknow over Calcutta for marketing?

SM
Srinjini Mukharjee Posted On : May 2nd, 2022
MBA from Indian Institute of Management Calcutta (2021)

You should choose IIM Calcutta. It is better in terms of peer group, faculty profiles, ranking across the country and abroad, location, alumni base, and placements. You will get better opportunities at IIM Calcutta.

As per the recent statistics, IIM Calcutta placements for the sales and marketing sector are pretty good. Almost 14% of students received placements in General Marketing and Marketing sector. The average CTC offered by the companies in this sector is INR 29 LPA.

IIM Calcutta also has a better brand value compared to IIM Lucknow. In the long run, you can benefit a lot from that.
