Is it worth it to do the remote IIM Lucknow's summer internship?

SB

Remote Summer internship from IIM Lucknow is something that actually excites and amazes you, but if you’re planning to pursue it just because of the IIM tag on it, then you need to wait and read the reviews and suggestions provided by students.

A friend of mine has successfully completed it and suggested not to go for it due to some specific reasons. First of all, it is not useful as there are about 70-80 students doing the same remote internship. No personal attention is given to students actually in need.

In the internship program, you have to buy recommended books and a suggested Udemy course as well. Buying a book is enough though it contains all the information and study material you actually need as the same book is used in management courses.

Furthermore, the only good thing about this internship is the online classes and guidance provided by Prof. Sameer Mathur who is one of the best and experienced professors. You can take advantage of his experience and learn new things with simple examples and scenarios. But you need to complete all your assignments and work on your own as the assignments are given on a regular basis including sundays as well. If you really want to complete this internship program then forget about holidays. After successfully completing the internship you’ll get a certificate which will get delivered on your postal address.

The internship program is open to all and anyone can join the program without any prior skill test which somehow decreases the credibility of this internship program. That’s why it is suggested that if your purpose is to learn only and not the certificate then you can simply buy the recommended books and gain knowledge on your own without spending the extra money on suggested online courses.

Is there anybody who got into IIM Lucknow after a bad interview experience?

NP
Neeraj Patel Posted On : January 7th, 2023
M.B.A from Indian Institute of Management Lucknow (Graduated 2018)

My sister had a fairly poor interview experience and yet managed to get into IIM Lucknow. She was asked about the current issue of the world to which she mentioned the Syrian wars. He contradicted her saying it wasn’t a burning issue as it had been happening for more than 2 years. Flustered, she mentioned the US on the government's side. Further, the interviewer inquired her about her own opinion regarding the civil war. She confidently said that she couldn’t support any side due to the extremist quality of either of them. But the interviewer wasn’t satisfied and urged her to take a side and give a rather clear answer.

The discussion continued for a few minutes after which he asked her about the Kashmir issue.

After many diplomatic talks, he finally asked about her current role in the company and asked if she had any experience in E and P.

The interview was rather prolonged with a lot of contradictions and awkward situations. The interviewer kept cutting her off in the middle of answers. Toward the end, she was asked to solve a statistics problem which she managed to solve in 5 seconds. She was then asked to leave. She had little or no hopes of getting a call but as luck would have it she managed to get into IIM Lucknow.

Are the job profiles offered at MDI Gurgaon on par with IIMs like LIK, not ABC? How much effort does one have to put into his future to get on par with the IIM graduates if one graduate from there?

IIML is clearly superior to MDI in non-marketing specializations in terms of placement. However, IIM I, K, and MDI are generally equal in terms of placements, except for a few banks that specifically seek out the IIM tag at I&K. If you work equally hard at either campus and all other operational factors are constant, you will likely end up in a similar position whether you choose MDI or I or K. However, as mentioned before, IIML still has the edge and requires more effort if you're in the finance or consulting field.

If you're interested in MDI, it's worth noting that recent placement reports show more and more prestigious finance and consulting companies are visiting the campus. This has helped MDI deliver well-rounded placements. So, if you're willing to put in the work, MDI could be a good option for you.

What are the best courses to take in IIM Lucknow?

AM
Amit Mourya Posted On : February 2nd, 2021
MBA from Indian Institute of Management Lucknow (2019)

There are several excellent courses to be chosen to take in IIM Lucknow. Here is a list of some of the preferred choices.

  • Marketing-- Consumer Behaviour – Taken by Professor Dash.
Professor Dash has his own eccentricities. Even after leaving that aside, just doing a proper pre-read and being attentive in the class, students can gain a tremendous amount of knowledge. It is heard that AMR is even better.
  • Strategy—Strategic Alliances – Taken by Professor Amita Mittal.
Professor Amita Mittal is patient, has her own wit, and explains each strategy concept carefully. She elaborates theory concepts with real-life examples, and this keeps her audience engaged to listen. She is known to deliver excellent pre-reads.
  • Decision Science—Game Theory Application—taken by Yogesh Kumar Agarwal. He is very popular among students.

These are some of the personal choices. There are several other professors who deliver excellent lectures and are equally reputed among students.

Which is a better B-school between FMS, ISB and IIM Lucknow?

SA
Shaveta Arya Posted On : January 6th, 2023
Studied at Indian Institute of Management Lucknow

The student fraternity of ISB is very different from that of FMS and IIM Lucknow. ISB requires a minimum of 2 years and an average of 4 years of work experience for admission. Whereas IIM Lucknow and FMS focus more on academics and almost 40% of the batch comprises freshers. Others have 2 or fewer years of experience.

My answer is divided into 3 parts

If you have work experience of 2 or fewer years:

In this case, you should give up on ISB and totally focus on FMS or IIM Lucknow. Personally, I would suggest you go for IIM Lucknow because of its brand image. Despite the fact that FMS offers high ROI, you can never underestimate the value of an IIM tag.

If you have work experience of 2-3 years:

This is the toughest decision as you can nearly go for ISB but will be risking a lot including its extravagant fees. But you won’t regret choosing ISB because of its peers, faculty, research orientation, and campus life. It is also the place where all the big consulting firms come for placements. So if you value reputed firms a lot then go for ISB.

If you have above 3 years of experience:

Close your eyes and without thinking choose ISB.

How is JBIMS compared to IIM L, K?

AJ
Arshit Jain Posted On : March 3rd, 2023
M.M.S. in Finance, Jamnalal Bajaj Institute of Management Studies (Graduated 2021)

It is advised not to consider the new IIMs in the same league as L, K, and JBIMS. Among L, K, and JBIMS, IIM Lucknow should be placed first. Despite JBIMS being older than IIM Lucknow, IIM Lucknow boasts greater diversity and a more established brand.

In terms of personal preferences, both IIM Kozhikode and JBIMS have their own strengths and weaknesses. When it comes to placement, alumni base, and return on investment, JBIMS has the upper hand.

However, the campus of IIM Kozhikode is unmatched and offers an unrivaled business school experience that is not present in JBIMS. Some might argue that the IIM brand is stronger than that of JBIMS, but IIM Kozhikode, as a 25-year-old institution, has created its own brand reputation, while JBIMS, a 65-year-old institution, is highly respected in the corporate world.

It is also worth mentioning that the median placement of JBIMS has exceeded 22 lakhs this year, while that of IIM Kozhikode is around 20 lakhs. While it is known that some students have left IIM Kozhikode and IIM Lucknow to attend JBIMS, it is also likely that the reverse has occurred.

In conclusion, the suggested order would be IIM Lucknow > JBIMS > IIM Kozhikode.

How was your IIM Lucknow interview experience for batch 2020-22?

NS
Nishad Shah Posted On : January 8th, 2023
Media and Public Relations at Indian Institute of Management Kashipur (2018–present)

My cousin appeared for the interview of IIM Lucknow for the 2020-22 batch. He claimed that most of the aspirants were top-notch and had him lower his self-confidence. There were 7 panels in total.

  • WAT round: The topic for WAT was GDP growth vs Human Development Index(HDI). He had prepared the topic while preparing for the interview so this round went pretty well.
  • PI: The personal interview witnessed many heated arguments among the candidates and interviewers.

As soon as my cousin entered the room, he was asked for the file. He asked him why he chose IIM Lucknow over ISB. My cousin praised the institute saying it was parred with many great other B Schools. However, the interviewer did not seem satisfied so my cousin added that the IIM tag was inevitable. They enquired him about his current job and his interest. He said he was interested in operations or supply chain management. The interviewer asked him why he was not into consulting.

He further asked him about his dream job, hobbies, and other stuff. They asked me what other calls I have converted and preferred the most. Lastly, they asked him why he chose IIM Lucknow over Rohtak. After listening to his answer he complimented him for his honesty and asked him to leave the room. Luckily he was selected and got into IIM Lucknow.

I have converted both FMS and IIM Lucknow. My ACADS are below average and I have 3 years of work experience in IT. Which is better for me?

OT
Omkar Thakur Posted On : February 2nd, 2021
PGDM from Indian Institute of Management Lucknow (2020)

IIM Lucknow and FMS both the institute are both reputed B-Schools of India. Discussed below are some factors which may help you compare the two institutes.

Batch size:

FMS has a smaller batch. If your academic profile is not good it is reasonable to join an institute with a smaller batch.

Return on Investment:

FMS has a lower fee range. But the overall cost of living in a flat if you are not allotted the limited hostel seats offsets the often quoted ROI advantage that FMS is said to have over IIM Lucknow. But in the matter, you can stay in the DU hostel, the ROI difference is not that much between IIM L and FMS.

The IIM Brand:

Being one of the older IIMs, second only to the holy trinity A, B, C, IIM L’s brand value is more significant and definitely stands the test of time. While FMS is a GREAT institute, the IIM tag has a global reputation.

Campus Experience:

The chance to live in a full-fledged campus at IIM Lucknow, as half the batch lives in the DU hostel and the other half in flats has an edge over the campus experience for FMS. Reviews from students indicate that IIM Lucknow is the more charming campus to spend time at, both in terms of enjoyment and peer learning.

Placements:

It depends on your choice of specialization.

  • FMS is great for marketing. Being in NCR several big FMCG come to FMS for recruitment. FMS has various choices of roles on offer.
  • On the other hand, IIM Lucknow has better consulting placements owing to the consulting companies inclined towards favoring the IIM brand.
  • For finance, both the colleges are on the same level. IIM L has a slight advantage but it is balanced by the huge batch size.

The table shows a brief overview of the institutions.

Particulars

FMS Delhi

IIM Lucknow

Median Salary

Rs. 25.6 Lakh

Rs. 20 Lakh

Highest Salary

Rs. 58.6 Lakh

Rs. 54 Lakh

Entrance Criteria

CAT

CAT/XAT/GMAT

Fees

Rs. 1.92 Lakh

Rs. 19.25 Lakh

Hence, although the fears are well-founded, IIM Lucknow will be the potential choice over FMS.

Which IIM should I join, IIM Indore or IIM Lucknow? I want to study finance.

MR
Meena Rathi Posted On : August 14th, 2020
M.B.A from Indian Institute of Management Lucknow (2019)

Both the institutes provide almost the same learning experience and are considered to be one of the best B-Schools to join in India. But IIM Lucknow has some advantages over IIM Indore.

  • At IIM Lucknow students receive more consulting and finance based job roles. Companies like Citi, JP Morgan, Morgan Stanley, Black Rock, Avendus, Arga Investments, Investec offer front end roles for the students. Additionally, there are many Corporate Finance roles offered by banks such as Yes, HDFC, ICICI, etc.

  • As the batch size is smaller in IIM Lucknow which in turn makes the learning experience better as the faculty can interact with more students and clear any doubts that one may have.

  • According to the NIRF Rankings 2020, IIML stands at 4th position while IIMI stands at 7th in India among the management institutes.

  • IIM Lucknow has a strong research base compared to IIM Indore, which helps students to find opportunities to work in live projects and pursue their own research as well. IIM Lucknow has 117 published conference papers over the years while IIM Indore has 98 FPM theses. Both the institutes provide support for students to pursue new research.

  • One other important factor is the alumni base. IIM Lucknow has a larger well-developed alumni network compared to IIM Indore which helps in the placements.
