Which is better, IIT Bhubaneswar for EE or IIIT Hyderabad for ECE?

GS
Gopal Sehdev Posted On : August 13th, 2020
B.Tech from International Institute of Information Technology Hyderabad (2020)

ECE and EEE, most of the syllabus is same and the subjects are considered as electrical core subjects like analog, digital electronics, signals, networks, etc. With courses being almost the same, the comparison comes down to other aspects of institutes.

  • If you aim to get good placement packages after finishing your degree to work then you should opt EE in IIT Bhubaneswar. In 2019 placement 86% EE batch was employed. PSUs hire directly from IITs with the new mandate by the government which gives students in IIT to pursue a career in PSU without having to clear GATE. Although for ECE the placement of IIIT Hyderabad is higher (10 LPA) compared to IIT Bhubaneswar.

  • IIIT Hyderabad also provides great infrastructure and laboratories and have been very well funded for research papers. IITs get their funds from the Govt. and both institutes are on equal pace in this aspect.

  • Campus life can be one more aspect that students may find interesting while selecting the course and college. Academics in IIIT Hyderabad ECE is considered to be advantageous compared to IIT Bhubaneswar EE, because of IIT BBS is a new institute.

  • Faculty members at IIIT Hyderabad are also some of the highly eligible professors and some of them are from old IITs.

Overall, when comparing both courses and institutes, IIIT Hyderabad comes on top, but the choice should be branch instead of college when both have equal pros and cons.

Is IIIT Hyderabad best for CSE in India?

AJ
Adinath Jain Posted On : March 21st, 2023
Studied at IIIT Hyderabad

When considering IIIT Hyderabad, you can expect academic excellence, top-notch placements, and a coding culture that rivals even the top IITs. You will have the advantage of having the IIIT Hyderabad name on your profile, which can open doors to great opportunities in the industry.

However, it's worth noting that IIIT Hyderabad still lags behind in the non-technical development of students' personalities. Unlike IITs and BITS, there aren't as many management fests, and the entrepreneurial spirit may be lesser. The focus at IIIT Hyderabad tends to be more on research and academics, with limited time for extracurricular activities.

If you choose to attend IIIT Hyderabad, you may need to seek out opportunities to develop a well-rounded personality. This could involve participating in clubs or organizations outside of the academic curriculum, or taking on leadership roles in research projects or other academic pursuits. It's important to balance your academic and professional goals with personal growth and development, so don't be afraid to explore all that IIIT Hyderabad has to offer.

What is the toughest thing to do at IIIT Hyderabad?

PS
Priyadarshini Sen Posted On : February 25th, 2021
Studied at International Institute of Information Technology, Hyderabad (IIIT-H) (2018)

My sister was fortunate to study here with only a handful of the best people of her generation she ever met. IIIT-H and its associates have given the chance to move forward in their lives by instilling an education, character, and fearless attitude.

The toughest thing to be specific about is the check for free time. Academic deadlines or deadlines for assignments; deadlines for project proposals; GSoC deadlines, meetings, or maybe deadlines for paper projects. This stuff will always make you feel stifled a bit. Something will still be achieved. For any university student, the balance is difficult to find, but in the end, it is about your choices.

Apart from this, if you’re someone like my sister who finds yoga and physical exercise quite difficult then I think it is enough for a guy with a great BMI to do some 15-20 minutes at night. In chilly, cold winter and hot summers. And as far as yoga is concerned, my sister had plenty of that if it's intended to learn patience. And I don't think 1 hour of her precious day is worth investing. Apart from these, you’ll definitely miss your time here! So make a note of it.

For most students, IIIT Hyderabad campus life goes in a circle of eat-sleep-code-repeat. The institute offers a pretty good campus experience. The academics are rigorous. Other than lectures you will learn through various technical and extra-curricular activities. The library on campus has a huge collection of textbooks, reference books, technical reports, etc.

IIITH offers residential facilities to students. First-year students are given accommodation in double sharing rooms. While others get individual rooms.

There are many clubs such as Photography club, Music club, Movie club, Dance club, etc. The sports facilities on campus are also pretty good. There are facilities for cricket, volleyball, basketball, etc.

How good are IIIT Bangalore and Allahabad compared to IIIT Hyderabad?

PP
Pratik Parikh Posted On : March 21st, 2023
Lives in Bangalore

When it comes to IIITs, IIIT Hyderabad is by far the BEST. IIIT Bangalore is good as well and has some good faculty, but it doesn't have the fire brand in CS that IIIT Hyderabad does. If you're looking for an advantage, IIIT B is located in Bangalore, but then again, IIIT H is located in Hyderabad, so it's not as good as IIIT H.

IIIT D and IIIT A are both government-run and have a 50% reservation. This puts them behind the above mentioned colleges. IIIT D has better faculty and is located in Delhi, which gives it a certain location advantage. However, IIIT A is an older institute. Both places are filled with Delhiwalas and UP bhai log, which doesn't help them either.

If you're a North Indian, you might like IIIT A/D more than IIIT B, and vice versa. However, almost all Indians like Hyderabad as a city. The majority of people in Hyderabad are friendly and know Hindi, so North Indians find it easier to adjust. At the same time, Hyderabad people are not language chauvinists like other South Indians (read Tamilians and Kannadigas), so that also helps. Plus, if you're a South Indian, you will easily adjust to Hyderabad since it still has a Southern Vibe to it.

In short, IIIT H is the best among the above depending on faculty/location/college life and the general atmosphere. If you're not getting IIIT H, you could try for the Top NITs (only Trichy, Warangal, and Surathkal) and then your famous state colleges like NSIT/DTU for Delhiites, Anna for Tamilians, Jadavpur for Bengalis, COEP for Marathis, etc., JNTU, etc.

It depends on the specific IIT in question. IITs certainly offer excellent CSE programs. But IIIT Hyderabad is nowhere behind. It follows a curriculum that is regularly updated according to industry trends. It has one of the best coding cultures in the country.

IIIT Hyderabad placements 2021 show the highest CTC to be INR 56 LPA. While the lowest CTC offered was INR 2 LPA.

Has IIIT Hyderabad CSE grown beyond IIT Madras and IIT Kharagpur?

When it comes to comparing institutions, rankings and comparisons can be found in various sources, but it's important to be unbiased in your analysis. While I cannot provide a clear answer on which institution is better, I can share my beliefs based on my experiences.

If you're considering IIIT-H, you should know that they offer courses in Computer Science and Electronics only, with Computer Science being their forte. Here's what makes IIIT-H's CS education stand out:

  • Refined Curriculum: IIIT-H focuses on CS fundamentals from the very first year, and the base courses are stressed more than the others. This helps students establish a strong foundation, which allows them to focus on advanced topics in later years.
  • Culture: IIIT-H has a culture of producing great programmers year after year. For instance, a team from IIIT-H qualifies for the ACM ICPC World Finals almost every year. When these programmers are your teaching assistants, lab tutors, or neighbors (IIIT is a small community with around 200 students per year), their success and mindset rub off on you, and you learn how to study and succeed. This is a unique attribute of IIIT-H that sets it apart from other institutions.

In terms of placements, IIIT-H, and IITs are more or less similar. In fact, CS graduates from IITs are also poached by banks and consulting firms due to their strong mathematics and quantitative analysis backgrounds. Faculty members are equally good at both places.

Unlike IIIT-H, IITs offer specializations in various engineering fields, such as Civil and Mechanical engineering. While these fields may be less appealing currently due to their reduced demand in the job market, they are still essential components of the engineering industry. Therefore, it's unfair to say that IIIT-H has grown beyond any IIT in its entirety. But as far as Computer Science is concerned, IIIT-H has carved out its own niche and excels in this field.

Are standards at IIIT Hyderabad going down?

MF
Maliha Fatima Posted On : March 2nd, 2021
Studied at Jaypee Institute of Information Technology, Noida (2020)

There is no such proof that the standard at IIT Hyderabad is going down. However, there is proof of their consistency, you can check the round one cut-off of each year below:

Program

2020 JEE Main Cut off

2019 JEE Main Cut off

2018 Cut off

2017 Cut off

Computer Science & Engineering

577

573

287

285

Electronics and Communication Engineering

1197

941

270

270

You can clearly see that the cutoffs are almost the same from 2017 till now which shows you that IIIT-Hyderabad has maintained its standards since then.

Also, you might need to know the reasons for the high cutoff to date: No reservation policy, 12th boards marks aren’t required for admission (but a minimum of 60% in PCM is required), The reputation they have built over the years with the placements, academic and research work, Never compromise the quality with the quantity and High emphasis on coding culture and their reputation in that.

Which is better for ECE, IIIT-H or NIT Surathkal?

AJ

If you are considering a career in computer engineering or electronics engineering, there are a few things that you should keep in mind. While a college degree may be helpful, it is not the only way to acquire the necessary skills to succeed in these fields. Here are some important points to consider:

  • Skills do not depend on college degrees: It is important to remember that skills are not necessarily tied to college degrees. Many successful computer programmers and electronics engineers have acquired their skills through self-study, online courses, and other forms of independent learning. What matters most is your ability to demonstrate your skills through practical experience and projects.
  • High demand for skilled computer programmers: There is an infinite demand for highly skilled computer programmers with impressive TopCoder and GitHub profiles. These skills are highly valued in many industries and can lead to rewarding careers.
  • IIIT-H is a top choice for computer engineering: If you do decide to pursue a college degree in computer engineering, it is worth considering the International Institute of Information Technology, Hyderabad (IIIT-H). This institution is widely regarded as one of the best in India for computer engineering, with a strong focus on research and innovation.
  • Electronics engineering is the proper term: It is important to note that there is no such thing as "electronics and communication engineering" in the real world. The proper term for this field is simply electronics engineering. A skilled electronics engineer is someone who can use their command over low-level computer programming languages to make computers do what they want them to do.
  • GATE/IES ECE syllabus is important for the government sector: If you are interested in pursuing a career as an electronics engineer in the government sector, you will need to follow the GATE/IES ECE syllabus to be able to compete in competitive exams.
  • High demand for skilled electronics engineers: There is also an infinite demand for highly skilled electronics engineers with impressive TopCoder and GitHub profiles. These skills are highly valued in developed countries around the world, and can lead to rewarding careers.
  • Two ways to become an electronics engineer in India: There are two main ways to become an electronics engineer in India. One is by competing in competitive exams to work in the government sector. The other is by getting recruited by private electronics engineering companies

based on your TopCoder and GitHub profiles, even without a school or college degree.

In summary, pursuing a career in computer engineering or electronics engineering can be highly rewarding, even if you do not have a college degree. It is important to focus on acquiring the necessary skills through self-study, online courses, and other forms of independent learning, and to demonstrate your skills through practical experience and projects. Whether you choose to pursue a college degree or not, there is a high demand for skilled professionals in these fields, and many opportunities to succeed.
