Pursuing CSE from NIT Surathkal will open numerous doors for you and provide you with greater placement prospects. Mining shouldn't be prioritised over CSE, since the mining industry is exceedingly difficult. In terms of placement, faculty, ranking, and academic excellence NIT Surathkal is better for pursuing mechanical engineering than IIT Jodhpur. The reasons for choosing NIT Surathkal are as follows:

  •  Ranking and reputation: NIT Surathkal was rated 12th among the finest engineering schools in the country in 2023 by NIRF whereas IIT Dhanbad stayed at 17, which is a reflection of the school's academic performance, resources, faculty depth, etc.
  •  Faculty : All of the academic instructors are smart and friendly. They are extremely knowledgeable in their field. Their course program is suitable for students who want to work in the major field in the future.
  • Placement: The placement stats of 2023 are stated in tabulated form:

Particulars

Statistics 2023

Highest package

INR 45 LPA

Average package

INR 20-22 LPA

Top recruiters

Microsoft, DE Shaw, Uber, Amazon, Oracle.

  • Alumni Network: At NITs, there is a high prevalence of robust alumni networks, which may be helpful for networking, job placements, and internships. K. V. Kamath (Padma Bhushan awardee -2008 - Trade & Industry), Nandini Shenoy (CSE, Founder and CEO of Pinkvilla), and many more professionals are notable alumni of this organization.

After considering all of these factors, it is clear that NIT Surathkal is the best fit for pursuing a computer science engineering degree. The campus, programs, and opportunities available align perfectly with the goals of an IT aspirant.

Works at Indian Institute of Technology, Dhanbad

IIT Dhanbad faces little competition from other colleges in mining, making it the best mining campus in the country, but the branch itself is very challenging, and the career prospects are very different from what you might be thinking of after graduation.

NIT Surathkal is very comparable to IIT Dhanbad and CSE and will open many doors for you and provide better placement opportunities. You should not choose mining over CSE at NIT Surathkal unless you have a genuine interest in mining or a background in mining.

B.Tech Mechanical Engineering & Design, Indian Institute of Technology, Dhanbad (2017)

IIT Dhanbad is a Public/Government institution and ranked 12th among IITs. Whereas, NIT Surathkal is ranked 13 for Engineering by NIRF. As the courses are different it is difficult to compare and choose the better option. However, here are some important factors about the two choices.

IIT Dhanbad:

Admission:

  • The admission for BTech is based on a student's JEE Advanced rank. In the year 2019, the cutoff required for BTech Mining Engineering was 20194. The total student intake for BTech Mining is 104 and the course costs around 7.82 lakhs.
  • For MTech Mining Engineering the institute accepts GATE examination scores. The required eligibility is graduation in a related branch. The MTech program costs around 1.05 lakhs.

Placements:

  • Approximately 76% of students were placed in various companies.
  • The highest salary package for students in Mining was 18 LPA and the lowest was 5 LPA.
  • The major recruiters were ZS Associates, KPMG, PWC, and Orica Mining.
  • Around 30% of the students got an internship, and 4 of them got an internship in Volvo Construction Equipment.

NIT Surathkal:

Admission:

  • The admission process in NIT Surathkal is based on a JEE Main followed by JoSAA counseling for BTech CSE. The basic required eligibility is a minimum of 75% aggregate in class 12 for BTech.
  • For MTech in Computer Science, students should be a BTech holder in the relevant subject with a minimum of 60% aggregate. Students are selected based on their GATE scores followed by CCMT counseling.
  • The course fee for BTech is 4.94 lakhs and for MTech, it is 1.85 lakhs.

Placement:

  • Almost 100% of the students got placed, the highest offered package is 55 LPA and the lowest offered salary is 3 LPA.
  • The recruiters were Google India, Amazon, and Sprinklr visiting the campus and top roles, like software engineers and software analysts, are offered to the students.
  • About 70% of the students got an internship in companies like Microsoft, Amazon, L&T, etc.

Finally, it’s the students' decision to choose according to their choice of course and as well as college.
