Which is better, NITK CSE or IIT Dharwad CSE?

IIT Dharwad is a relatively newly established institute and the first batch of engineering graduates in 2020 only, it is yet to be ranked by NIRF. While NITK Surathkal is one of the oldest NITs of the country and is ranked 33rd by NIRF for Engineering.

NITK

• The CSE branch has a placement rate of 100%.
• 200+ companies took part in the recruitment drive with top recruiters being Amazon, IBM, Google, Accenture, etc.
• Highest CTC offered was 84 LPA
• Average salary package received was 14 LPA

IIT Dharwad

• The average placement rate for CSE was around 80%
• Highest offer bagged was 15 LPA
• Average salary package received was in the range 6-8 LPA
• In 2019, average stipend received was 30,000
• Top recruiters were Nasdaq, Adobe, TCS, Infosys, etc. amongst 20+ other companies

Campus

• NITK- Spread over 100 acre area, it is a very beautiful campus and has it’s very own private beach as well. Cultural fests are conducted in February and Technical fests are conducted in August at NITK. It offers state-of-art-infrastructure with modern smart classrooms and well equipped labs and sports facilities.
• IIT Dharwad- It currently functions in a transit campus hence all facilities cannot be availed as of now but the proposed campus is supposed to be spread across 400 acres and full of ample opportunities for students.

Curriculum 

IIT Dharwad

• More than half of the faculty members are educated from a foreign university and hold a PhD degree. 
• Since it is a new college, it is mentored by old colleges like IIT-K, IIT-M and students are even taught by SWAYAM courses offered by professors from the old IITs.

NITK

• The faculty-student ratio at NITK is 1:35. 
• Along with theoretical knowledge, practical coding sessions and hackathons are regularly organised to encourage students to develop an excellent grasp at programming.

NIT Surathkal or NITK is one of the premier engineering institutes of the country and has a strong alumni network and industry connect. Training sessions are even organised by industry giants like IBM, CoCubes. IIT Dharwad being a new institute needs time and resources to make its mark. Hence, students should make an informed choice according to their discretion.
