PGDM in Marketing & Consulting, S. P. Jain Institute of Management and Research (SPJIMR)

Marketing is a focal point at SPJIMR. The marketing faculty is brilliant and extremely enthusiastic about their subjects. The faculty is welcoming and open to discussions about current events. Some of the professors are from US universities.

The course comprises interesting projects, guest lectures from industry experts and alums, and workshops that will keep you busy all day. "Fieldwork" is given a lot of credit. There are enough role clarification sessions to give you a clear picture of what the Sales and Marketing roles entail. They have interesting concepts like "A Day in the Life of a Salesman," in which students shadow a salesman on the job, a Capstone project that gives you a comprehensive understanding of marketing, and so on.

The curriculum's best feature is that it is kept as current and relevant as possible. In fact, you might want to join the Marketing Area Committee during your first year to gain more experience in this field. Digital marketing is also taken very seriously in this company. The batch profile is extremely powerful. Many of them have come from core sales/advertising roles, and their contributions to the class are significant. The good news is that we have "Autumn Internships," so by the time we have to interview for companies, we have a good idea of what the roles entail and where we want to go. Marketing Batch placements are also good.

Studied at Indian Institute of Management Indore (2018)

Both are average universities; SP Jain alumni will encourage you to join SP Jain while IIM Indore ex-students will do the same and boast about its reputation. But, in reality, there is no real difference. A graduate of Goa Institute of Management is the same as a graduate from IIM Lucknow to most major companies.

The following table gives a brief overview of both institutes:

Categories

SPJIMR

IIM Indore

Course Fee

17.5 lakh

16.1 lakh

Placement Percentage

Average CTC

22.92 LPA

Recruiting Companies

Accenture Strategy, Adani, Amazon, Airtel, Bank of America.

Hindustan Unilever, Google, Aditya Birla, Godrej.

When it comes to placements, SP Jain has good placement records and has some of the top recruiters annually visiting the campus but then again, the same companies most likely visit IIM Indore as well. There are exceptions; a few in the FMCG category and an important recruiter for group strategy hiring.

Now, getting back to a comparison between SPJIMR and IIM Indore. SPJIMR is a great business school and offers well- developed academic programmes whereas IIM Indore is somewhat losing its polish especially when their batch sizes are growing tremendously every year. Thus, SPJIMR might be a safer bet than IIM Indore.

However, there are advantages of studying at IIM Indore especially in terms of placements and faculty:

  • The recruiter list at IIM Indore is exhaustive and impressive due to its reputation. There are companies like Deutsche Bank that recruit exclusively from IIM Indore.
  • Mckinsey and Company do batch day hiring while JP Morgan hires in large numbers for certain essential roles.
  • They also have several flagship roles offered by all the big companies in categories like FMCG, Retail, Telecommunications and Media.
  • For marketing, the competition at IIM Indore is fierce; you really must stand out if you wish to be considered.
  • IIM Indore has a fantastic faculty; the college gets its orientation and inspiration from IIM Ahmedabad.

Deciding a business school is tough and a major decision, so hopefully this comparison will help you decide what is best for you.
