How good is the IIM Ahmedabad hostel?

At IIM Ahmedabad, rather than hostels, there is a dorm culture. Usually, around 25-40 students reside in a dorm.

IIM Ahmedabad campus is divided into two parts, i.e. old campus and the new campus. Dorms 1-18 are on the old campus, while other dorms are on the new campus. Old campus dorms were built earlier and have a heritage feeling with red bricks.
New campus dorms have better infrastructure. The rooms are bigger. Some rooms even have ACs or private bathrooms.
Basic amenities like bed, mattress, mirror, whiteboard, study table, chair, cupboard, shoe racks, curtains are provided for students.

There is room for improvement, but you won’t face any major issues. You will love your time there on campus.

One of my friends has shared his experience of hostels at IIM Ahmedabad. The hostels are called dorms and each dorm has a unique name. My friend was a resident of Dorm 9 which was an old campus dorm. You will find a unique culture, rules, a representative and even different birthday norms.

Every dorm has a total of 30-40 rooms with single bed for every student.
There are rooms with dual occupancy but only for married couples.
Most PGP students stay in single rooms.
Each dorm is divided into 3-4 floors with basements in a few. Students cannot access terrace in most of the cases.
The facilities offered with each dorm includes washrooms, kitchen, automatic washing machine, refrigerator, microwave and many more.
The institute has assigned a care taker for each dorm and a security guard at all times.
Other amenities include Bed, Mattress, Fan, Mirror, Study table, study light, whiteboard, curtains, shoe rack, cupboard, chair, and many more.
You will find ACs only in a few dorms but the institute is planning to install ACs in all rooms.
You can purchase a cooler or even get it on rent from the vendor inside the campus only.
Balconies are attached with all of the rooms except for basement ones. It gives a scenic view of the surroundings.

The rooms are allotted on a random basis but you can change them after 1st year or in case of any medical conditions. If looked from an overall view, the hostels are pretty comfortable, welcoming and secure.

The only drawback is that you will find in the hostels are mosquitoes and the heat. However, the administration is doing their best to solve such issues.
