How is the hostel life and campus life at IIT Mandi? At what level is ragging at IIT Mandi?

If you're considering studying at IIT Mandi, here are some points you might find useful:

• Ragging is not something you need to worry about at IIT Mandi. The seniors are helpful and supportive.
• The smaller batch strength (compared to other IITs) at IIT Mandi comes with its own advantages. You get opportunities to work on projects even if you have no prior knowledge, as long as you're willing to learn.
• Unlike other bigger institutions where hundreds of students stay in one hostel, at IIT Mandi, you have clusters of hostels with about 150 students in each hostel. In your first year, you'll stay together with almost the whole batch, but in later years, you get to stay with awesome seniors in your hostel. Some seniors even hold positions in technical secretariats and club coordinators, making it a great environment to work in. You can join clubs and be part of the core team as long as you're willing to work.
• If you're concerned about placements, rest assured that top companies come for placement and internship drives at IIT Mandi. The institute was placed 6th in median salary.
• In terms of drawbacks, the sports facilities at IIT Mandi aren't quite up to the mark, but this is expected to improve with more students returning to campus and a new Director taking charge. The roads have been in bad shape this season, but repairs are expected as soon as the weather permits.
• On the brighter side, there are some fun fests at IIT Mandi to lighten the mood. While not all fests are legendary, Exodia and Rann-Neeti are quite awesome if you get involved. Even the intra-college fests are cool and enjoyable. The sports culture here is just awesome, not just on the campus but even in Mandi, where people are great sports enthusiasts. You can also showcase your technical and non-technical talents at various events. And there's unlimited high-speed internet, although with some restrictions to make you think and explore for solutions.

One of my friends had some of the best experiences of his life at the hostels in IIT Mandi. They are some of the good hostels you will find in our country. There are a lot of facilities available that you can use. Some of them are as follows:

• 24*7 high-speed internet
• Water coolers and purifiers
• Multiple microwave ovens, irons
• Common rooms with televisions
• Indoor Games like Carrom and Table Tennis
• LAN cables for gaming 

However, when it comes to college life, you might not get enough time to spend considering the fast pace of academics at the college. From my friend’s time, because of the compact semester schedule, you will probably not have the time to breathe and relax.

In a short span of 4 months, there are a number of activities that you will probably decide to participate in. These include inter and intra sports events as well as tech cult fests. If you are socially active you will definitely be very busy throughout the year. Otherwise, life here is as good as any other fully residential engineering college.

You will find people giving mixed reviews regarding life on the campus but personally, my friend liked the life here a lot. When it comes to ragging, you will not experience any in my opinion. The seniors are quite friendly and they will help you out wherever required. Some of them have even become my friends.

Other things you should know:

• The canteen is a great hangout spot. The food at the mess will definitely make you miss your mother’s cooking.
• As far as classes are concerned, there are quite a few of them that begin as early as 8 am.
• The college has a strict 70 percent attendance policy. Some teachers even give marks for attendance, so you will have to attend class regularly.
• If you are into sports, the sports culture here is great. So you will definitely see a lot of students playing different sports all the time.

The only drawback is that you will have to leave your city life behind when you come to IIT Mandi. There isn’t much to explore around with no malls and theatres. Other than that, you will definitely have a good college life here.
