I don’t know what or who convinced you to go for IIT Gandhinagar, but if it’s not too late please reconsider your decision. Here are some points that will help you understand my strong aversion to IIT Gandhinagar.

  • The hostel fees are extremely high around 27-30k/- semester. Additionally, they charge you more if you are staying in the hostel during vacations.
  • There are no laundry facilities available in the hostel
  • The rooms towards the interior are in pathetic condition
  • The labs are very small and have substandard equipment
  • They force you to attend the orientation program. Those who don’t suffer a lot and are deprived of Scholarships and you will be asked to do it again the following year
  • The Management system is extremely poor and lethargic.

So, I will advise you to go for IIT Gandhinagar only if it’s the last option available.

B.Tech Mechanical Engineering & Humanities and Social Sciences, Indian Institute of Technology, Gandhinagar

One of my friends applied for an internship at IIT Gandhinagar. The intense research culture and work structure were the two factors that inspired him to apply. You won’t have to do typical monotonous tasks. The assignments given are challenging and help in enhancing your creativity.

For undergraduates, there is a 5 weeks foundation program. During this foundation program, students are asked to perform some interesting activities like painting, juggling, cooking, games, etc. It is a much-needed breather after the intense preparation period of the IIT JEE examination.

B.Tech Electrical Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology, Gandhinagar (2018)

One of my close relatives did his BTech from IIT Gandhinagar. In 2012, before he got admission there, he didn’t know much about that place and simply listed down all the IITs based on the average placement packages. He applied for CS, EE, and ME and finally got EE at IIT Gandhinagar. By the end of his journey in 2016, he found himself lucky that he got admission there.

His experience is depicted below.

  • Foundation Programme: According to him, the foundation program helped him know and build his self-worth and confidence to speak up in a crowd.
  • He got the opportunity to choose his career option according to his choice. He did an internship at ISRO. The next summer, he got an Explorer Fellowship which helped him understand society better and he still does. He was a part of R&D work in automation and AI at Mahindra Rise Project. He also got a deferred placement in the end which helped him pursue his interests.
  • Even after almost 2 years after his graduation, he still had the option to sit in placement (for once). Moreover, the placement coordinator is so caring that whenever my friend feared about his future, he was just a mail away and got assurance of all possible help.
  • More than half of students are offered an option to go abroad as research interns in international universities.
  • He also established good relations with friends, understanding professors, and even the student council. At the time of his father’s medical emergency, the student council was there to help him with funds.
  • He took up numerous extra-curricular responsibilities like Election Commissioner - 3rd-year Hospitality Head, Tech Summit - 2nd year Mess Committee - 4th year Student Guide Head - 4th year. All these helped him shape his personality better.

At the end of the day, it all comes down to your hard work and passion for your goal. For my friend, IIT Gandhinagar was a life-changing experience. Hope this gives you the motivation you need.
