AIIMS Delhi and MAMC Delhi are both the most reputed colleges in terms of academics and placements. AIIMS Delhi offers limited 125 seats annually which makes it really competitive to get admission. Although it is equally competitive to get into MAMC, the college offers a total of 250 seats annually for the MBBS program.
Both institutions have well-experienced faculty, infrastructure and strong curriculum. Admission at AIIMS Delhi is not guaranteed unless one goes through counselling and secures the seat as AIIMS doesn’t offer management seats.
MBBS curriculum is the same in both colleges. Hence, the college tag doesn’t matter however, everything is dependent on your skills, knowledge and learning during your internship posting where you utilize all your theoretical knowledge into practice.
It is advisable for you to continue your education at MAMC without dropping out and wasting one year. Make the most of the resources available and you can always continue your PG studies at AIIMS Delhi by clearing INI CET. Also, AIIMS Delhi conducts INI CET twice a year i.e. January Session and July Session which provides you with an opportunity to appear at your desired time.
Life at Maulana Azad Medical College (MAMC) is amazing for all the students. MAMC has a strict academic routine with frequent examinations, projects, Objective Structured Practical Examination (OSPE), and tutorials keeping students busy and alert for all academic activities. However, education is a balance of both academics and co-curricular activities.
MAMC has a huge green campus that creates a stress-free environment for students. The campus also has a stationery store, grocery store and Coffee Kiosk on campus for students to relax and shop or for their midnight hunger pangs. MAMC also has a playground and encourages students to actively participate in physical activities. Students are also encouraged to participate in inter & intro college fests to showcase their talents.
Students can have a wonderful 5 years with their peers and friendly seniors at MAMC and make their stay on campus worthwhile and memorable for their life. The connections you make at MAMC with peers and alumni are for life and will help you both personally and in your professional career as well.
VMMC offers 170 seats for the MBBS program whereas MAMC offers a total of 250 seats. While both VMMC and MAMC are very renowned colleges, the first year at VMMC is still quite stress-free whereas MAMC adheres to a strict curriculum.
VMMC offers a top-notch infrastructure with modern equipment and supportive staff. It has one of the largest government hospital complexes in India along with Asia’s largest OPD. On the other hand, MAMC also offers decent infrastructure and facilities on campus for students’ overall well-being.
The primary reason for aspirants to choose VMMC is the Internal PG reservation. Since VMMC is affiliated with IP University, UG students (MBBS) are eligible for an internal PG Quota and can secure MD/MS seats at VMMC.
It is advisable to choose VMMC to avail the benefits of reservation for PG courses. Although, MAMC doesn’t provide any reservations for PG courses. Students graduating from MAMC are equipped with a strong academic foundation and can be highly competitive.
There are other advantages of choosing VMMC over the other two colleges, besides its internal PG quota.
First of all, Safdarjung hospital gets really good funding. In the last six years, it has built two new buildings (one Emergency and one Superspeciality). VMMC offers a decent college environment, just like other colleges. The internal PG quota is definitely a big advantage. To get internal medicine at MAMC, you’ll need around AIR 350. On the other hand, at VMMC, you’ll get it with AIR 9000.
This advantage might be diluted as more colleges get added to IPU. Regardless, you’ll be offered a great hospital, and a good college. Between MAMC and UCMS, the former has a locational advantage.
So, here is why you should choose VMMC over MAMC and UCMS.
Here are some girls' hostels allotted to MBBS students of MAMC Delhi
Overall, MAMC girls' hostel facilities aren't very good but you will make a lot of friends there and create amazing memories.
Usually MAMC is the first choice of aspirants. But, a good number of students choose VMMC over MAMC despite getting really high ranks, and having a Delhi state quota. The reasons for this decision are-
Thus, I would recommend you choose VMMC for your MBBS degree.
Both MAMC and KGMU are top medical colleges in India. However, MAMC has a slight location advantage over KGMU and is also known to have a better environment for medical education.
Here is a brief comparison of these colleges based on common aspects
So, KGMU is a good option if you dont make it to good medical colleges in Delhi.
The question is quite subjective and depends on your performance whilemoroaring for the entrance exams and your expectations from it. In my opinion, joining the lowest ranked medical college is not a wise decision considering the efforts you have already invested and are willing to do so more. Had I been in your place, I would have taken a back without any second thoughts
However, if your goal was just to grab a seat and the brand value of the institute does not matter, then you can join even a low ranked college without much thought.
Lastly, here is a piece of advice for those taking a drop year. Don’t target only AIIMS and MAMS, rather keep your option wide. Trust me India has many other reputed medical colleges too. Limiting your options will actually limit your opportunities too!
MAMC is a good option and well-recognized in the medical fraternity. You won’t regret joining the institute. Also, in medical field, your institute name won’t matter much. If you want to pursue higher studies after graduation, you need to follow the same steps, irrespective of whether you are graduating from AIIMS or MAMC.
After joining MAMC, you also have the option to prepare for AIIMS next year. It will be difficult, but doable.
One of my friends studied at Maulana Azad Medical College (MAMC). According to him, studying here was his best decision. It is one of the best Government medical colleges in India.
