M.Sc in Physics and Astronomy (2020)

One of my friends recently appeared for the interview session and at IIT Madras for Metallurgical Engineering and here is what he has to say about his experience.

  • They began by questioning him about his M.Tech project work. It would be best if you research the faculty profiles and their major field of work.
  • Following that, they asked him a few of the basic questions concentrated on various phase diagrams, such as the lever rule, isomorphous phase diagrams. They have however asked most students questions from their field of interest.
  • While you are stating your area of research, you should be extremely particular. For instance, it might not be clear if you go on to mention “Mechanical Behavior of Materials”, but if you instead mention “Mechanical Behavior of Metals” it will help panelists ask you relevant questions from your domain.
  • If you can, then you should bring your M.Tech thesis, and copies of your published paper, if you have any, it will help create a good impression.

The evaluation of your selection usually depends upon your academic performance, written test scores, and your interview session.
