The National Institute of Industrial Engineering (NITIE) in Mumbai offers a Post Graduate Diploma in Industrial Engineering (PGDIE) program, which is highly regarded in the industry. Many reputed companies visit the campus every year to recruit students for various roles in their organizations. Here is a brief overview of the shortlisting process of companies at NITIE for PGDIE:

  • Company Registration: Companies interested in recruiting NITIE students need to register on the NITIE Placement Portal. This portal allows them to view the profiles of the students and select candidates for the recruitment process.
  • Pre-Placement Talk: Once the company is registered, they are invited to conduct a pre-placement talk (PPT) on campus. The PPT is an opportunity for the company representatives to introduce their organization, discuss the roles and responsibilities of the position, and answer any questions that the students may have.
  • Resume Shortlisting: After the PPT, companies usually invite interested students to submit their resumes. Based on the resumes received, the company shortlists candidates for the next round of the recruitment process.
  • Group Discussions (GD): Companies typically conduct group discussions as the first round of the recruitment process. In a GD, a group of students is given a topic to discuss, and the company representatives assess their communication, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
  • Personal Interviews: Students who clear the GD round are invited for personal interviews. The interview panel usually comprises senior executives from the company, who assess the students' technical and behavioral competencies.
  • Job Offers: Companies extend job offers to students who perform well in personal interviews. Students who receive job offers need to accept or reject them within a specified time frame.

In summary, the shortlisting process of companies at NITIE for PGDIE involves company registration, pre-placement talk, resume shortlisting, group discussions, personal interviews, and job offers. The institute has a well-structured placement process, which helps companies identify the right talent and students secure rewarding career opportunities.

There is no such fixed process that is being followed by the companies during placements for short-listing the candidates at NITIE.

According to my friends at the institute, here are some of the factors that play a major role and influence the short-listing process.

  • Academic records: Some companies look for candidates with strong academic records. The marks in 10th, 12th, and graduation are considered for the short-listing process. Having a good academic record increases the chance of preference.
  • Work experience: Some companies look for candidates that have work experience in their relevant industry. Usually, Consulting companies prefer candidates with prior experience while FMCG usually hires freshers.
  • Psychometric test: Many companies ask the candidates to go for the psychometric test or Behavioural test for short-listing.
  • Written test: some companies ask the candidate to fill up some forms with questions regarding their past work experience, Statement of purpose, and typical HR questions. Companies see the viewpoint of candidates and then ask them for further processes.

Apart from these factors, there may be other non-disclosed criteria followed by any company. Short-listing for Summer placements and Final placements are quite random. It’s difficult to predict a precise pattern.
