IIM Indore had a few temporary setbacks, but it’s in no way on a decline in terms of the rigor of its PGP program. In past, IIM Indore used to be compared with IIM Lucknow, which is not the case anymore. The institute is in a developing phase due to some of the changes that were implemented by the administration. These changes include the IPM program and the Mumbai campus.
IIM Indore IPM program started with the intention to take in fresh minds, right out of school, and build management skills during a period of 5 years. This program was intended to make the journey to MBA less condensed and more meaningful. However, to cut down the fees, IIM Indore combined this course with the PGP program during the last two years. This affected the differentiation, the 5-year IPM program intended to have. As a result of this combination of courses, IPM students get more or less the same education as PGP. They also face more challenges in the industry due to their lack of work experience and a prestigious undergraduate degree. IPM students get an IGNOU degree after completing 3 years of their course. IIM Indore PGP program also suffered, due to the increased batch size. But IIM Indore IPM program is still in the nascent stage and despite the setbacks, it has shown great promise.
After the IPM program started, IIM Indore decided to establish a campus in Mumbai. The intention was to cater to working professionals who want to do part-time MBAs based out of Mumbai. The location was strategically chosen to attract reputed guest lecturers from the corporate epicenter of India. This decision didn’t yield the desired result. Since many Ivy schools like Harvard already run executive MBA classes from Mumbai.
Although these decisions were made with good intentions, they resulted in setbacks rather than the desired acceleration in growth. IIM Indore has been raked below tier 2 B-Schools for the last couple of years as these decisions became taxing from the administrative and economic viewpoint. But these setbacks are temporary. Currently, these programs started to build up momentum, independent of the flagship program. You can definitely expect the institute to thrive in near future.
IIM Indore is one of the most popular and reputed colleges of our country and no, it is not on a decline. In fact, my friends studying there said, it is continuously improving and keeping up its name since its establishment.
Hence, IIM Indore is one of the best colleges to pursue business management courses and it is successfully keeping up its shine and holding a strong reputation in the industry.
