Everything depends on your goal and your determination towards the same.
If you want to pursue an MBA in the future, you must have at least a 7.5 to be admitted to good private and new IIMs.
It doesn't matter if you're a GATE aspirant, but make sure you don't have any backlogs at the time of the interview. In this case, 7+ is a good score.
If you want to take the GRE, you must have a CGPA of at least 7.5 or you will have to compensate for your CGPA with your GRE score.
If you want to be an entrepreneur, you must continue to prioritize your skills over your CGPA. There is a lot of opportunity in this world for skilled individuals rather than just muggers.
Overall, anything above 7 is acceptable, and it would be ideal if you could complete all 8 semesters without a back injury. Working on your skills will help you achieve a good CGPA.
